We describe a methodology for linking aliases belonging to the same individual based on a user's writing style (stylometric features extracted from the user generated content) and her time patterns (time-based features extracted from the publishing times of the user generated content). While most previous research on social media identity linkage relies on matching usernames, our methodology can also be used for users who actively try to choose dissimilar usernames when creating their aliases. In our experiments on a discussion forum dataset and a Twitter dataset, we evaluate the performance of three different classifiers. We use the best classifier (AdaBoost) to evaluate how well it works on different datasets using different features. Experiments show that combining stylometric and time-based features yield good results on our synthetic datasets and a small-scale evaluation on real-world blog data confirm these results, yielding a precision over 95%. The use of emotion-related and Twitter-related features yield no significant impact on the results.

An unconditionally stable finite difference scheme for systems whose dynamics are described by a second-order partial differential equation is developed. The scheme is motivated by the well-known Crank-Nicolson discretization which was developed for first-order systems. The stability of the finite-difference scheme is analysed by von Neumann's method. Using the new scheme, a discrete in time and space model of a deformable mirror is derived as the basis for control law design. The convergence of this scheme for various values of the discretization parameters is checked by numerical simulations.

This paper presents a Hamiltonian model of marine vehicle dynamics in six degrees of freedom in both body-fixed and inertial momentum coordinates. The model in body-fixed coordinates presents a particular structure of the mass matrix that allows the adaptation and application of passivity-based control interconnection and damping assignment design methodologies developed for robust stabilisation of mechanical systems in terms of generalised coordinates. As an example of application, we follow this methodology to design a passivity-based tracking controller with integral action for fully actuated vehicles in six degrees of freedom. We also describe a momentum transformation that allows an alternative model representation that resembles general port-Hamiltonian mechanical systems with a coordinate dep.ndent mass matrix. This can be seen as an enabling step towards the adaptation of the theory of control of port-Hamiltonian systems developed in robotic manipulators and multi-body mechanical systems to the case of marine craft dynamics.

The rail traffic in Europe is increasing in frequency. As a result of this, all the countries are updating their power supply system involving the use of high-power static converters. Moreover, the high required power implies the use of medium voltage (MV) supply chains (i.e. 15-25 kV) while the traction drives are operated at voltages of some kV. In order to adapt the two voltage levels, an on board transformer is typically used. Anyway, this transformer is characterized by high size and weight and limits the performances of the vehicle. A solution to this issue can be represented by the use of a power electronic transformer (PET) that is constituted by a double stage converter with an interposed high frequency transformer. The use of a high frequency transformer instead of the traditional at industrial frequency allows the reduction of size and weight with consequent advantages for vehicle performances. The paper presents a focus on circuital model, design and dimensioning of a PET. In particular, a topology of the converters and the relative control strategy are proposed. Moreover, the problem of core sizing is analysed and some guidelines are given. Finally, for chosen values of power and switching frequency, the sizing is executed and results of numerical simulations are given.

The continuing pervasion of our society with safety-critical cyber-physical systems not only demands for adequate (risk) analysis, testing and verification techniques, it also generates growing experience on their use, which can be considered as important as the tools themselves for their efficient use. This paper introduces workflow patterns to describe such best practices in a systematic way that efficiently represents this knowledge, and also provides a way to relate different patterns, making them easier to identify and use, and cover as wide a range of experiences as possible. The value of the approach is demonstrated using some pattern examples from a collection developed in the Artemis-project MBAT. Finally, the paper presents a wiki-based approach for developing and maintaining the pattern collection.

In this work, K-partitioning of signed or weighted bipartite graph problem has been introduced, which appears as a real life problem where the partitions of bipartite graph represent two different entities and the edges between the nodes of the partitions represent the relationships among them. A typical example is the set of people and their opinions, whose strength is represented as signed numerical values. Using the weights on the edges, these bipartite graphs can be partitioned into two or more clusters. In political domain, a cluster represents strong relationship among a group of people and a group of issues. In the paper, we formally define the problem and compare different heuristics, and show through both real and simulated data the effectiveness of our approaches.

We report on an exploratory study where the first 60 seconds of the video recording of a user interaction are used to predict the user's experienced task difficulty. This approach builds on previous work on "thin slices" of human-human behavior, and applies it to human-computer interaction. In the scenario of interacting with a photocopy machine, automated video coding showed that the Activity and Emphasis predicted 46.6% of the variance of task difficulty. This result closely follows reported results on predicting negotiation outcomes from conversational dynamics using similar variables on the speech signal. © 2012 ACM.

This work aims to address the following question: is it possible to inf.r the users' expectations regarding task difficulty by watching them just before the actual start? We present a study where people acting as evaluators determined users' expectations based on non-linguistic social signals in a 20 seconds video clip. The evaluations were performed using a five-point scale and the average error of the evaluations was of one point. Preliminary results suggest what type of signals was used by the evaluators to determine the users' expected difficulty with the task.
