The exponential expansion of mobile communication traffic, fuelled by a rising number of smart devices and sophisticated applications, has put significant pressure on existing cellular network architectures. The 6G networks need creative ways to meet these difficulties effectively. This study offers a Distributed Open Radio Access Network (DO-RAN) architecture that uses Open-RAN and Software-Defined Networking (SDN) to reduce signalling burden and boost network performance. DO-RAN improves responsiveness, reduces signalling load on the 5GC, and reduces backhaul congestion by decentralising key functionalities such as the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and the Session Management Function (SMF) from the 5G Core Network (5GC) to the Open-RAN framework's Central Units (CUs). Our proposal compares DO-RAN to Central Open RAN (CO-RAN) and other architectures, such as 4G LTE networks. The findings show that DO-RAN considerably reduces signalling load in a variety of situations, such as network- and user-triggered service events. This architecture provides enhanced efficiency and scalability for 6G cellular networks in addition to meeting the growing demands for signalling. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper addresses the challenges associated with signaling load in 5G Core (5GC) by proposing innovative architectural solutions based on Open Radio Access Network (Open-RAN), and Software-Defined Networking (SDN). The work introduces two novel approaches, Partially Distributed Open RAN (PDO-RAN) and Fully Distributed Open RAN (FDO-RAN), aiming to optimize network performance and efficiency by reduce the signaling load on 5GC. The architectures involve the strategic relocation of critical components, such as the Access and Mobility Management Function (AMF) and Session Management Function (SMF) from 5GC to the gNB Central Unit (gNB-CU) within the Open RAN architecture. The research conducts a comprehensive evaluation of these proposed architectures, comparing them with the traditional Central Open RAN (CO-RAN), and existing LTE designs. Signaling load analyses, particularly during the initial attachment event, reveal that FDO-RAN consistently outperforms other architectures, showcasing its efficiency in handling signaling processes. The study provides valuable insights into the scalability and effectiveness of distributed and fully distributed Open RAN architectures, offering crucial guidance for future advancements in 5G network optimization. © 2025 IEEE.

Mortality caused by cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) has been steadily increasing over the years. For this reason, numerous studies have addressed this issue, introducing innovative techniques for automatic detection of heart disease using ECG/PCG signals and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The present paper proposes a system for automatic diagnosis of heart disease (five pathology classes) using electrocardiogram (ECG) signals and CNNs. Specifically, ECG signals are passed directly to an appropriately trained CNN network. The database comprises a combination of two public datasets: MIT-BIH Arrhythmia and MIT-BIH Atrial Fibrillation database. The results obtained from testing the network show average classification accuracy of about 93% when a 2second ECG signal is fed to the network;conversely, applying a post-processing filter results in about 100% accuracy after around 38 seconds. © 2022 IEEE.

The 5G LAN-type service refers to a service that supports communication between users within a group through the 5G system. It provides functions similar to those of traditional Local Area Networks (LAN) or Virtual Private Networks (VPN), but it gains attention across various services due to the enhanced performance of 5G such as high throughput, low latency, mobility management, and security. The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) introduced the 5G LAN-type service in Release 16 and defined the architecture, protocols, and requirements to support the 5G LAN-type service. In this paper, we briefly examine the architecture and components of the 5G network based on the 3GPP standard and introduce the structure and protocols for supporting 5G LAN-type services in a 5G network. © 2024 IEEE.

To support XR services, the 3GPP standards intro-duce a protocol data unit (PDU) set, which is the minimum group of packets needed to carry a video frame, and also define the relative importance of different PDU sets. This allows the network operator to handle network traffic based on the importance of PDU sets. 3GPP standards define two options for PDU set-based traffic handling in the user plane: 1) gNB-based and 2) UPF-based. This paper introduces a basic concept of PDU set and specifies two procedures for PDU set-based traffic handling in the user plane. © 2024 IEEE.

The autonomous vehicle is a particularly promising area of application for machine learning algorithms. Autonomous driving is challenging due to the complexity of the road network, the hardly predictable human behaviors, either pedestrians or drivers and the imperative need to ensure the safety of all road users. Deep Reinforcement Learning algorithms have garnered significant interest as a viable option for controlling autonomous vehicles. They allow defining a control policy by solely describing the observation space, the action space, and a reward function. Yet, the most common solutions face difficulties when the action space is hybrid (simultaneously continuous and discrete), and the reward is sparse, which is the case when a selection between choices must be made (like yielding or not), and the trajectory of the vehicle must be adapted according to this decision. This paper addresses these challenges by focusing on controlling an autonomous vehicle at pedestrian crossings. The vehicle adapts its speed (continuous decision) and the displayed signal (discrete decision) according to the pedestrian's state. The unique characteristic of the speed profile is to facilitate safe pedestrian crossings without requiring the vehicle to come to a complete stop. This raises the consistency problem between the speed profile and the signals issued by the vehicle. This paper introduces a new hybrid DRL model capable of making both decisions. It discusses the training method, the construction and necessary constraints on the reward, as well as the success of generalization to different speed limitations. © 2023 IEEE.

In this study, we proposed a transfer-learning based variational autoencoder model for predicting the electrical characteristics in the parameter tuning process of a-IGZO TFT structure design. The result achieve a high R2 score of 0.9704 with a low-computing-power hardware-friendly method that reduced time consumption significantly compared to prior approaches. The findings have practical implications for mitigating the time-consuming nature of TCAD simulations, and the method can expand to various types of input data while ensuring high performance and generalization. We demonstrated significant improvement in generalization and accuracy through a k-fold validation. © 2023 IEEE.

The paper presents an automated system for collecting and processing data for diagnosing the condition of an arteriovenous fistula. In the fistula, due to increased blood flow, characteristic noises and vibrations of the vessel walls occur. Using the data acquisition device, the acoustic noise of the arteriovenous fistula is recorded. The system processes and analyzes the measured data, evaluates the main indicators of the fistula condition. Changing the main indicators allows you to evaluate the dynamics of changes in the fistula condition. The developed system can be used for remote, long-term and continuous diagnostics of blood vessels in patients on hemodialysis. © 2023 IEEE.
