To date, accounting and financial sciences have attempted to assess companies using financial ratios and other techniques that evaluate only the front office, without considering its impact to the environment. Recently, this assessment has been expanded to include new concepts, known as corporate social responsibility and social balance. These new concepts are usually viewed and studied using a multidisciplinary perspective with an aim to update the current and future value of the company. In this evolving scientific field a considerable effort has been made to objectively record and calculate the environmental impact of a company's activities by integrating these elements into a new form of economic balance sheet. The present paper seeks to examine the presence of weighted environmental indexes and explores the process by which they can be used to evaluate a company. © 2011 Kavala Institute of Technology.

Organizations today represent dynamic complex systems and their behaviour cannot be examined effectively through the reductionist view of it. Competitive advantage is the ability to exploit opportunities that occur inside and outside the organisation, and adapt to meet these opportunities. It is the alignment of external and internal environments of an organization, which create and sustain competitive advantage. The use of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as a performance measure and a strategic control tool, contributes to organization's survival and success. The adoption of the BSC contributes to certain type of behaviour, which is elicited through the use of positive feedback. Acceptable actions are reinforced through the appropriate culture (norms and values) and rewards linked to performance. As the pace of change is increasing, there is a constant demand for creativity and innovation. Agile and flexible BSC serves as strange attractors in the system's agents behaviour, operating in a turbulent dynamic environment. Feedbacks and information distributed throughout the system, upgrading knowledge and ultimately improving performance through learning. Organizations that are able to learn from their environment and change their internal structure survive and prosper through transformation, which is substantially influenced by strange attractors. Chaos theory can help us to understand and improve the transformation process and through the use of the BSC. © 2011 Kavala Institute of Technology.

This paper addresses the use of deep learning techniques in 3D point cloud labeling of environment representations for the task of a semantic visual localization of mobile robots. In contrast to standard problems resolved with Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), the paper deals with applying CNNs to segment point clouds that are, unlike images, unordered and unstructured. The used point clouds contain laser measurements of 3D positions (x,y,z) as well as captured RGB camera images from the scanned scene to colorize the point cloud (RGB values). The main focus of the paper is on implementation and evaluation of a hand-crafted convolution layer and the ConvPoint CNN architecture that introduces continuous convolutions for point cloud processing. The solution was implemented in the Python programming language using the PyTorch deep learning framework. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents a generalized direct power control (DPC) scheme for grid connected multilevel converters. The proposed method extends the original DPC operating principle by considering only for selection the closest vectors to the present switching state. This approach requires the power derivatives for feedback, which can present numerical implementation problems in real time. Therefore a grid virtual flux based observer is proposed to overcome this issue. The proposed method is applicable to any multilevel converter topology of any number of levels. In this paper simulations results are presented for a 9 level cascaded H-bridge converter. The proposed solution enables DPC for multilevel converters used in medium voltage applications while improving overall power quality and efficiency of the system. ©2010 IEEE.

Electromagnetic motors currently used in lithography systems are pushed to their limit and it is challenging to increase acceleration without introducing additional disturbances. Superconductors could provide an improvement in magnetic flux density and/or current density compared to the permanent magnets and copper coils currently used. The improvement potential of three superconducting (SC) alternatives is analysed in this paper. The achievable magnetic flux density with SC electromagnets and SC bulk magnets is derived and the (alternating) current density in a SC coil is presented as a function of cooling power. All three are analysed for a range of cryogenic temperatures. An increase in magnetic flux density of a factor of three is computed at a temperature of 30 K and the same increase in current density is found at 50 K with equal cooling power compared to copper coils. As a result, superconductivity is expected to provide a significant improvement with respect to magnetic flux density and/or current density in a motor application.

This paper treats the problem of 3D outdoor environment mapping using images acquired by Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The main focus is on the generation of 3D model for large scale environments. In order to perform 3D model reconstruction and mapping from 2D aerial images we employed a Structure from Motion (SfM) based approach. The obtained results using this approach for different scenarios, the rubble field and village, are presented. The generated UAV 3D point cloud data are compared with the ground truth using the least square method, where the ground truth represents a reference model with high accuracy geodetic precision. The comparison of the 3D environment models with the rubble field and village scenarios and the ground truth data is also given. © 2022 IEEE.

Recently, cloud computers are widely used due to the development of computing environment and network speed. Unikernel is considered to be an attractive operating system in the manycore environment that effectively provides cloud computers. HalVM is a unikernel coded in Haskell. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Haskell running in a unikernel, which has shown good parallel programming performance in a manycore environment. In this paper, we analyze the performance of Haskell running in a unikernel, while Haskell has shown good performance in a manycore environment. To do this, we select HaLVM as the target operating system and analyze the performance by testing various Haskell parallel programming models. Test result shows that HaLVM is scalable only on IVC. We also implement a library to make programming with IVC more convenient, and use this library to compare extensibility experiments. Our test shows HaLVM's scalability is 112.42% higher than Linux environment. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As computers with manycore architecture are being widely spread, parallel programming becomes a pending issue. While parallel programming has been a challenging issue, Haskell is known to be of the best available one. The immutability and declarative nature of Haskell suit well the need for parallelism. In our previous work, we implemented the SAM, a parallel programming model based on Haskell. In this paper, we propose the SSAM, an updated version of SAM, by solving the performance overhead of SAM socket. We discuss the architecture of SSAM and its major functions and show the 14% scalability upgrade in a performance test. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper sets out to apply concepts of non linear dynamics theory nai neural networks to the prediction of CDS index using Greek, Turkey, Russia, Brazil and China data. The research employs the method of false near neighbors in the time series analysis in order to estimate the minimum membedding dimensions of the corresponding strange attractor. To achieve out of the sample multistep ahead prediction, a neural net is constructed which architectures based on strange attractors topological properties. © 2011 Kavala Institute of Technology.
