As computers with manycore architecture are being widely spread, parallel programming becomes a pending issue. While parallel programming has been a challenging issue, Haskell is known to be of the best available one. The immutability and declarative nature of Haskell suit well the need for parallelism. In our previous work, we implemented the SAM, a parallel programming model based on Haskell. In this paper, we propose the SSAM, an updated version of SAM, by solving the performance overhead of SAM socket. We discuss the architecture of SSAM and its major functions and show the 14% scalability upgrade in a performance test. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The current industry has to adapt to rapidly changing customers' needs. Reconfigurable manufacturing, therefore, provides capacity and functionality on demand which is essential for competitiveness in fast-changing markets. Furthermore, Industry 4.0 or even more so, Industry 5.0 emphasizes human-centred production with collaborative robots, Cobots, to create human-robot interactions. In such scenarios, safety and security are difficult to address due to the intrinsic features of reconfigurable manufacturing, like exposure to numerous requirements changes in a short period. As safety and security can conflict in different phases of the system life-cycle, one of the earliest activities to avoid conflicts is requirements engineering which can significantly diminish the cost and time of fixing issues compared to later phases like operation. This paper proposes a methodology for safety and security requirements interaction management, including conflict detection and resolution, and shows its applicability through a reconfigurable collaborative human-robot use case. Based on the proposed methodology, we detected and resolved two safety and security requirement conflicts.

Companies are rushing to deliver their services and solutions through the cloud. The scheduling process is very critical in reducing delays. Scheduling also has a role in accessing resources without excessive waiting time. All this in context of modern advances in infrastructure and the emergence of Blockchain-as-a-service. What if integration is done between a hybrid scheduling algorithm and blockchain technology via the cloud. This integration aims to enhance and provide the service uninterruptedly. This method is distinguished, compared to other scheduling algorithms such as shortest-job-first and priority scheduling, that it does not suffer from starvation and it has a balanced load on resources. Based on analytical performance, the proposed hybrid scheduling has the markable result. © 2021, CC BY.

Carotid Artery Disease is a complex multi-disciplinary medical condition causing strokes and several other disfunctions to individuals. Within this work, a cloud - based platform is proposed for clinicians and medical doctors that provides a comprehensive risk assessment tool for carotid artery disease. It includes three modeling levels: baseline data-driven risk assessment, blood flow simulations and plaque progression modeling. The proposed models, which have been validated through a wide set of studies within the TAXINOMISIS project, are delivered to the end users through an easy-to-use cloud platform. The architecture and the dep.oyment of this platform includes interfaces for handling the electronic patient record, the 3D arterial reconstruction, blood flow simulations and risk assessment reporting. TAXINOMISIS, compared with both similar software approaches and with the current clinical workflow, assists clinicians to treat patients more effectively and more accurately by providing innovative and validated *** Relevance - Asymptomatic carotid artery disease is a prevalent condition that affects a significant portion of the population, leading to an increased risk of stroke and other cardiovascular events. Early detection and appropriate treatment of this condition can significantly reduce the risk of adverse outcomes and improve patient outcomes. The development of a software tool to assist clinicians in the assessment and management of asymptomatic patients with carotid artery disease is therefore of great clinical relevance. By providing a comprehensive and reliable assessment of the disease and its risk factors, this tool will enable clinicians to make informed decisions regarding patient management and treatment. The impact of this tool on patient outcomes and the reduction of healthcare costs will be of great importance to both patients and the healthcare system.

Vision device is a critical component of fruit harvesting mobile robot which is designed for recognizing and harvesting of tomato fruits. The system of vision device of the moving robot, for a dedicated path identification with the use of colour detection algorithms and contour detection algorithms could be stated as an additional usage of the image-based technology. When the robot operates in real life, varying environmental parameters would not affect its activity, since the robot will be functioning mainly indoors, specifically in a greenhouse. Robust fruit segmentation algorithms for the visual system and the fruit plucking mechanism using a readymade robot arm with a soft gripper where it operates with basic hardware components like motors, controlled by a microcontroller with the intervention of kinematic theories, is being used with the goal of collecting fruit objects efficiently in the natural world. Plucking only the ripe and healthy object fruit without damaging both the fruit and the tree is the intended task of the system. The aim is to reduce human effort by promoting automation concepts in agriculture in developing countries like Sri Lanka with great potential, where agriculture plays a vital role in the development of the economy while indoor plantation and harvesting mechanism are also being developing to cater to the economy of the country as well. The way that this system is implemented will be discussed in this paper. © 2020 IEEE.

Collaborative recommendation approaches based on nearest-neighbors are still highly popular today due to their simplicity, their efficiency, and their ability to produce accurate and personalized recommendations. This chapter offers a comprehensive survey of neighborhood-based methods for the item recommendation problem. It presents the main characteristics and benefits of such methods, describes key design choices for implementing a neighborhood-based recommender system, and gives practical information on how to make these choices. A broad range of methods is covered in the chapter, including traditional algorithms like k-nearest neighbors as well as advanced approaches based on matrix factorization, sparse coding and random walks. A simplified variant of Gödel's ontological argument is presented. The simplified argument is valid already in basic modal logics K or KT, it does not suffer from modal collapse, and it avoids the rather complex predicates of essence (Ess.) and necessary existence (NE) as used by Gödel. The variant presented has been obtained as a side result of a series of theory simplification experiments conducted in interaction with a modern proof assistant system. The starting point for these experiments was the computer encoding of Gödel's argument, and then automated reasoning techniques were systematically applied to arrive at the simplified variant presented. The presented work thus exemplifies a fruitful human-computer interaction in computational metaphysics. Whether the presented result increases or decreases the attractiveness and persuasiveness of the ontological argument is a question I would like to pass on to philosophy and theology. Roadblocks to Attracting Students to Software Testing Careers: Comparisons of Replicated Studies

Context. Recently, a family of studies highlighted the unpopularity of software testing careers among undergraduate students in software engineering and computer science courses. The original study and its replications explored the perception of students in universities in four countries (Canada, China, India, and Malaysia), and indicated that most students do not consider a career in software testing as an option after graduation. This scenario represents a problem for the software industry since the lack of skilled testing professionals might decrease the quality of software products and increase the number of unsuccessful projects. Goal. The present study aims to replicate, in Brazil, the studies conducted in the other four countries to establish comparisons and support the development of strategies to improve the visibility and importance of software testing among undergraduate students across the globe. Method. We followed the same protocol in the original study to collect data using a questionnaire and analyzed the answers using descriptive statistics and qualitative data analysis. Results. Our findings indicate similarities among the results obtained in Brazil in comparison to those obtained from other countries. We observed that students are not motivated to follow a testing career in the software industry based on a belief that testing activities lack challenges and opportunities for continuous learning. Conclusions. In summary, students seem to be interested in learning more about software testing. However, the lack of discussions about the theme in software development courses, as well as the limited offer of courses focused on software quality at the university level reduce the visibility of this area, which causes a decrease in the interest in this career. © 2022, CC BY.

Device identity management and authentication are one of the critical and primary security challenges in IoT. In order to decrease the IoT attack surface and provide protection from security threats such as introduction of fake IoT nodes and identity theft, IoT requires scalable device identity management systems and resilient device authentication mechanisms. Existing mechanisms for device identity management and device authentication were not designed for huge number of devices and therefore are not suitable for IoT environments. This work presents results of a blockchain-based identity management approach with consensus authentication, as a scalable solution for IoT device authentication management. Our identity management approach relies on having a blockchain secure tamper proof registry and lightweight consensus-based identity authentication. © 2020 Owner/Author.
