The Earth is becoming increasingly hot as we experience more record-breaking heat waves, ice melting, and an increase in average temperatures. The repercussions of global climate change are becoming increasingly evident, which led to climate change being named the 'greatest global health threat of the twenty-first century.' As a result, the international community established an ambitious plan for going green, promoting human development, and preserving the biosphere by adopting the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals. As a result, international cooperation efforts have been increasingly put forward. This paper presents ways in which the Internet of Things could benefit the current efforts toward climate change mitigation endeavors. We discuss state-of-the-art projects that have been established worldwide to use recent advancements in 5G/6G technologies and IoT to monitor, model, and combat the impacts of global climate change on agriculture, water resources dep.etion, and coastal erosion. © 2022 IEEE.

In this article we give a Griesmer type bound for linear codes over finite quasi-Frobenius rings and consider codes over these rings meeting the bound. And we give a geometrical characterization of codes over finite chain rings meeting the bound, that is, one-to-one correspondence between the codes and minihyper in projective Hjelmslev spaces over these rings. © 2001.

Accurate detection of respiratory pauses is crucial in patients undergoing cataract surgery under sedation, as undetected pauses can lead to serious complications. Conventional monitoring techniques, such as pulse oximetry and capnography, often fail to detect respiratory pauses in a timely manner, limiting their effectiveness in high-stakes clinical settings. To address this gap, we propose an automated method leveraging tracheal sound analysis using a deep learning model based on ResNet18. Our approach incorporates signal processing techniques, noise reduction, Mel-spectrogram extraction, and data augmentation, to optimize the model's performance. The model was evaluated using multiple performance metrics, including AUC of the precision-recall curve, F1 score, etc. It achieved an AUC of 92.5% and an F1 score of 89% for the apnea class, demonstrating the system's potential for precise, real-time respiratory monitoring in clinical environments.

Urbanization and the emergence of smart cities have led to increased industrial activities, raising concerns about safety and environmental hazards. Detecting and monitoring gas leaks accurately is crucial due to the significant risks they pose to public health and the environment. In this study, we propose a novel approach that combines thermal imaging with sensor data to enhance gas detection accuracy in urban and industrial settings. By employing advanced algorithms and analyzing extensive datasets, our methodology achieves an impressive accuracy rate of 99.32%, setting a new standard in gas leak detection. Our innovation lies in the utilization of a unique oversampling technique called Normal Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (NSMOTE), coupled with the simultaneous integration of thermal imaging and sensor data within a multimodal framework. This breakthrough not only underscores the potential of integrating diverse data sources for environmental monitoring but also represents a significant stride in mitigating the risks associated with industrial gas emissions.

One common neurodevelopmental issue that needs prompt and precise diagnosis for successful treatment is attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). In this study, we present a novel approach using a cost-sensitive LightGBM (Light Gradient Boosting Machine) model to enhance the prediction of ADHD. Our key contribution lies in the integration of cost-sensitive learning, which prioritizes minimizing the misclassification costs associated with false negatives and false positives, critical in medical diagnostics. Additionally, we leverage the computational efficiency and speed of LightGBM, a gradient boosting framework known for its high performance in handling complex data structures. Our results demonstrate that the cost-sensitive LightGBM model achieves a predictive accuracy of 94% and an F1-score of 94%, while significantly reducing the time required for training and inference. This makes it a viable tool for real-world ADHD screening applications. This study highlights the importance of incorporating cost-sensitive algorithms in medical predictions to achieve a balanced trade-off between accuracy and resource efficiency.

As the usage of smart devices is increasing, malware affecting such devices is rapidly evolving as well. Security risks affecting the confidentiality, integrity, and privacy of smart devices are rapidly emerging. Mobile security suites exist to defend the device against malware and other intrusions. However, they require extensive resources which is a constraint of the device itself. In this paper, we address the problem of intrusion detection for smart devices taking into account the devices' limited resources such as energy, CPU usage, and internet connectivity. We provide an ad-hoc mobile cloud based intrusion detection framework that takes advantage of Wi-Fi Direct as means of achieving connectivity and sharing resources and services for providing security. The proposed framework allows exchange of data with or without the availability of internet connection. The paper also provides experiments, carried out using real devices, showing various improvements of using our approach. Up to 61% and 40% enhancement in energy consumption and response time respectively is reached compared to local execution. © 2016 IEEE.

Microaggregation is an important technique to the k-anonymized datasets. However, most existing microaggregation algorithms to achieving k-anonymity have some defects on distance measurement for categorical and mixed data. In this paper, we introduce a categorical data semantic hierarchy to their distance measurement to improve clustering quality. The paper also investigates mixed distance for mixed data and designs an efficient microaggregation algorithm for them. Experiments show that the distance measurement for categorical data cause less distortion, and the improved microaggregation algorithm based on the mixed distance enjoys better clustering quality than the traditional MDAV algorithm. © 2008 IEEE.

Currently, we are confronted with the presence of two significant transformations. The main goal of this research to calculate the triple integrals which has continuous functions numerically by two methods are RO(SuMM) and RO(SuMM)that obtained by Romberg acceleration with two composite rules. The first rule is the Mid-point method on the first dimension X and the second dimension Y with a suggested method on the third dimension Z and, which is denoted by SuMM. The second rule is a suggested method on the first dimension X and the second dimension Y with the Mid-point method on the third dimension Z and, which is denoted by MSuSu. Where the number of divisions on these three dimensions is exactly the Sam. We represented two theorems with their proofs to find such rules and the correction terms (the error terms) for each of rule Therefore, we obtained high accuracy results in a relatively few sub intervals and short time. The size of unified modeling language (UML) models used in practice is very large and ranges up to hundreds and thousands of classes. Querying of these models is used to support their quality assessment by information filtering and aggregating. For both, human cognition and automated analysis, there is a need for fast querying. In this context performance of model queries becomes an important issue. We investigated performance characteristics of two different querying engines: one using the object constraint language (OCL) and the other using prolog. Our comparison is based on equivalent queries in both languages. We applied the queries to 118 models of a size up to 10000 classes to analyze model load and evaluation time. Our preliminary results show that if execution time of queries is linear then prolog is faster. For one of the presented cases, the execution time in prolog was nonlinear and thus higher. Further studies should focus on a performance analysis reflecting expressiveness aspects. Our experimental material is accessible to enable future replications of this study.
