This paper defines PT'-resolution which is the integration of PT-resolution and approximate reasoning. PT-resolution is a deduction method based on partial intersection and truncation. The integration enables the deduction to handle quantitative data in an approximate manner. It is proved that the PT'-resolution is consistent with PT-resolution.

Seven-functional-layer 3D photonic crystals with midgap wavelength at 1.55 /spl mu/m were fabricated with a layer-by-layer approach. We employed e-beam lithography to align and define the pattern, reactive-ion-etching to transfer the pattern, and spin-on-dielectrics to planarize the surface. Four such cycles were sufficient to complete the fabrication.

For widely support the group communication in the WAN environment, a new group communication system CSCWGroup is proposed in the paper. The client/server cluster architecture is introduced in the system. In order to balancing the loads on servers, a novel method for characterizing the workload is presented to replace the traditional workload descriptor - the CPU queue length because of its variability in the stable load state. Vie combination of the CPU queue length and other five workload indices are used to determine the load levels. A modified probabilistic neural network is adapted to classify the servers load states into six types with the indices combination as the input vector. The experiment proves that shorter mean response time can be obtained in the new method. Based on it, load balancing policy is executed in the system to balance loads on servers.

Multi-dimensional systems containing nested loops are widely used to model scientific applications such as image processing, geophysical signal processing and fluid dynamics. However, branches within these loops may degrade the performance of pipelined architectures. This paper presents the theory, supporting hardware and experiments of a novel technique, based on multi-dimensional retiming, for reducing pipeline hazards caused by branches within nested loops. This technique, called Multi-Dimensional Branch Anticipation Scheduling, is able to achieve near-optimal schedule length for nested loops containing branch instructions.
