A Collaborative Broadcast Content Recording System Using Distributed Personal Video Recorders

Personal video recorders (PVRs) have altered the way users consume television (TV) content by allowing users to record programs and watch them at their convenience, overcoming the constraints of live broadcasting. However, standalone PVRs are limited by their individual storage capacities, restricting the number of programs they can store. While online catch-up TV services such as Hulu and Netflix mitigate this limitation by offering on-demand access to broadcast programs shortly after their initial broadcast, they require substantial storage and network resources, leading to significant infrastructural costs for service providers. To address these challenges, we propose a collaborative TV content recording system that leverages distributed PVRs, combining their storage into a virtual shared pool without additional costs. Our system aims to support all concurrent playback requests without service interruption while ensuring program availability comparable to that of local devices. The main contributions of our proposed system are fourfold. First, by sharing storage and upload bandwidth among PVRs, our system significantly expands the overall recording capacity and enables simultaneous recording of multiple programs without the physical constraints of standalone devices. Second, by utilizing erasure coding efficiently, our system reduces the storage space required for each program, allowing more programs to be recorded compared to traditional replication. Third, we propose an adaptive redundancy scheme to control the degree of redundancy of each program based on its evolving playback demand, ensuring high-quality playback by providing sufficient bandwidth for popular programs. Finally, we introduce a contribution-based incentive policy that encourages PVRs to actively participate by contributing resources, while discouraging excessive consumption of the combined storage pool. The number of sensors and IoT devices has increased dramatically in last several years. In recent years, the number of IoT devices and sensors has increased significantly. Solving the purpose of fog computing processing requirements of widely distributed IoT devices and sensors in real-time, latency-sensitive applications. In order to effectively distribute resource layers for numerous application IoT networks, it is imperative to optimize fog infrastructure resources, as they are scarce and erratic. Generally speaking, fog computing brings cloud-based networking, processing, and storage closer to IoT device and detection devices. To enhance the capacity to search globally, the Firefly and Crow search algorithms are merged. The proposed hybrid algorithm (FA-CSA) results improved the QoS factor of cost and makespan while compared with PSO, ACO and genetic algorithm. © 2025 the Author(s).

Amongst the world's main causes of death coronary artery disease plays a major role. As an accurate and timely diagnosis is essential for effective treatment many researches focus on the early identification of the disease. The current approach uses machine learning in making the prediction of cardiac illness. The goal is to design an optimized machine learning framework that assists the healthcare system in the coronary artery disease diagnosis. The dataset used here consists of 11 features and 2300 records including the diseased and non-diseased records. The kNN, SVM, Random forest, Gradient Boosting and Decision Tree algorithms are applied on the classification process. The parameters of these models are optimized using the GridSearch optimizer and the models with the optimized parameters are created and tested with the testing data. The optimized Gradient Boosting model with an accuracy of 95% proves the best among the other models in predicting the coronary atherosclerosis. © 2025 IEEE.

This research explores the use of haptic technology in heavy vehicle driving safety, focusing on its potential to enhance driver assistance systems and improve driving experience. The study addresses driver-induced causes of traffic accidents, including drivers' inability to see around the vehicle due to its length and height. The proposed system provides 360-degree cognitive awareness through haptic feedback, which can improve road safety and mitigate challenges in diverse driving conditions. By using haptic feedback, the driver will be able to get a tangible sense of the presence of objects surrounding the vehicle. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature and experimental studies, the research demonstrates the potential of haptic feedback in revolutionizing the driving experience. This paper introduces the generative self-supervised learning method in medical image recognition. We use the generative models in two main ways: 1) creating diversified training data and 2) learning domain-aligned pretext knowledge for self-supervised learning. In general, gathering real-world medical data can be quite difficult, so we generate synthetic training data using the diffusion model with elaborated prompts. We also propose a domain-aligned generative approach for our self-supervised learning algorithm. Our approach learns the robust visual representation from the masked autoencoder model with adaptive instance normalization. It minimizes the domain gap between our synthetic training data and real-world data when training the masked autoencoder model. In this self-supervised learning process, we rely solely on generative data, allowing our approach to achieve state-of-the-art performance without utilizing any real-world medical data. We demonstrate that our approach surpasses the previous best results by significant margins of CheXpert, COVIDx, and ChestX-ray14 datasets. These results highlight the potential of generated data in medical image recognition, a field that has historically faced data scarcity. Agriculture sustains populations and provides livelihoods, contributing to socioeconomic growth. Apples are one of the most popular fruits and contains various antioxidants that reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Additionally, they are low in calories, making them a healthy snack option for all ages. However, several factors can adversely affect apple production. These issues include diseases that drastically lower yield and quality and cause farmers to lose millions of dollars. To minimize yield loss and economic effects, it is essential to diagnose apple leaf diseases accurately and promptly. This allows targeted pesticide and insecticide use. However, farmers find it difficult to distinguish between different apple leaf diseases since their symptoms are quite similar. computer vision applications have become an effective tool in recent years for handling these issues. They can provide accurate disease detection and classification through massive image datasets. This research analyzes and evaluates datasets, deep learning methods and frameworks built for apple leaf disease detection and classification. A systematic analysis of 45 articles published between 2016 and 2024 was conducted to evaluate the latest developments, approaches, and research needs in this area. This article presents a method for indirectly measuring the moisture content of paddy using a cylindrical capacitive sensor combined with Charge Integrator Circuits. The moisture measurement device operates based on the principle of the dielectric constant of paddy, which changes according to the moisture content within them. The system consists of a moisture detection section utilizing a cylindrical capacitor, a signal generator operating at a frequency of 500 Hz with a microcontroller, a signal conditioning circuit converting the signal to voltage, and a processing unit. Testing was conducted with paddy at five different moisture levels, demonstrating the ability to accurately determine the moisture content of the rice. When compared to the commercially available PM-450TH moisture meter, the results showed a linear response across the measurement range, with an R 2 value of 0.9824 and an average error of 2.6%. This technology has the potential for further development and application to other types of seeds in the future.

Cryptography is an essential tool in ensuring the security of data during network communication. Network and service providers prioritize data security to ensure secure data exchanges. Ethiopic cryptography is a unique encryption method that utilizes the Amharic language, prevalent in Ethiopia. Unlike Latin alphabets, Amharic consists of 287 characters, making decryption challenging. The encryption process involves converting the text to Amharic and then mapping it to a pair of randomly chosen two-bit English alphabets, creating an intermediate cipher. The Ethiopic cryptography algorithm employs a hybrid approach, using the RSA algorithm for secure key exchange and the Advanced Encryption Standard algorithm for text confidentiality. The algorithm comprises three phases—translation, mapping, and encryption—contributing to its effectiveness in securing data over the network. Decryption requires familiarity with the Amharic language and mapping details. The algorithm demonstrates a stronger avalanche effect (97%) in comparison with Blowfish and DES. The algorithm is proposed and evaluated using the design science research methodology, and its performance is validated through simulation using MATLAB and BunnaScript tools, considering factors like the avalanche effect, time complexity, and memory consumption. The evaluation shows that the suggested solution operates faster, requires lesser time for data encryption, and uses less memory than other methods in use. Overall, the proposed Ethiopic cryptography algorithm proves to be an efficient and effective method for securing data during network communication, offering stronger text confidentiality and an improved avalanche effect. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
