Based on the achievements regarding the 2020 targets, the Renewable Energy Directive established a new, higher target for 2030, reflecting a significant increase of interest for renewable energy sources (RES). As a result, various new software simulation packages, featuring models of RES, have been developed and being used in academia as well as in industry for research, educational or training purposes. In this paper Wind turbine (WT) characteristics and wind speed data obtained from a commissioned wind farm in Cyprus are used to implement a simulation model in two different software programs featuring RES simulation capabilities. Power System Computer Aided Design (PSCAD) is used to investigate the electrical power output of a WT model, and KYAMOS software is used to investigate the modelling of the blades, the resulting primary torque and the resulting rotor rotational speed. The investigation result novelty is the establishment of the ability of the proposed, under development, software program to satisfy the three required characteristics. Therefore, Deviation from measured values of the turbine characteristics is observed for both programs, user interface and blade modelling, and the potential of integrating results of one software into the other is investigated. © 2023 IEEE.

This study proposes day-ahead power scheduling for electrical systems in off-grid mode, emphasizing consumer involvement. Bi-Demand Side management (DSM) approaches like strategic conversion and demand shifting are proposed for consumer involvement. Multiple objectives are modelled to voltage profile improvement and reduce the operation energy cost. The non-dominated solutions of the voltage of buses and operation energy cost are generated by enhanced epsilon-constraint technique, simultaneously. The General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS) software is proposed for solving optimization problems. A combination of decision-making methods like weight sum and fuzzy procedures are implemented for finding optimal solution non-dominated solutions. The proposed method's effectiveness is confirmed through numerical simulations carried out on several case studies that utilize the 33-bus electrical system. The findings illustrate the substantial effectiveness of demand-side participation in improving power dispatch and the optimal rate of multiple objectives. By using DSM, operation cost is reduced by 21.58% and the voltage index is improved by 13.36% than the lack of implementing DSM. © The Author(s), published by EDP Sciences, 2024.

In order to ensure that military and weapons systems are reliable and support civil development in finding alternative clean energy solution, research in energetic materials is being actively encouraged and expanded. However, reliability, safety, durability and stability are the main obstacles to the development of energetic materials. In order to solve these problems, health monitoring and lifetime assessment technology is currently being actively researched. This paper proposes prognostics and health management (PHM) as an effective tool to address these issues. A roa d map for developing PHM methodology for energetic material systems is proposed, and PHM benefits are also analyzed. © 2010 IEEE.

Modeling and Simulation (M&S) has been a proven and integral part of training for many of the science and engineering disciplines. Conversely, few in the liberal arts have dared to investigate how this tool can enhance, in essence bring to virtual reality, their disciplines. This paper will first present a succinct discussion of modeling and simulation;what it is, how it has evolved as a technology, and where its use is most prevalent as a teaching tool. Second, there will be an examination of some recent cases where modeling and simulation has been incorporated in the study of political science, history, religion, and communications. Bridging the virtual divide requires a mutual effort on the part of the instructors in the classroom and the simulationists creating the virtual environment. The final portion of this paper will address the capabilities and limitations of modeling and simulation from the simulationist's perspective. Communication is key to bridging the divide between the liberal arts disciplines and M&S. Furthermore, in order to enable the use of M&S with the same ease and functionality as using email, the usability of M&S must be increased. One way to achieve this is the standardization of M&S components, in particular for initialization and evaluation. The paper addresses both sides of this challenge: the liberal arts disciplines and the M&S community. Both can benefit from each other and collaborations are expected to be very fruitful. Perhaps what has been construed as a divide is in essence only virtual.
