Iterative Sound Source Localization for Unknown Number of Sources

Sound source localization aims to seek the direction of arrival (DOA) of all sound sources from the observed multichannel audio. For the practical problem of unknown number of sources, existing localization algorithms attempt to predict a likelihood-based coding (i.e., spatial spectrum) and employ a pre-determined threshold to detect the source number and corresponding DOA value. However, these threshold-based algorithms are not stable since they are limited by the careful choice of threshold. To address this problem, we propose an iterative sound source localization approach called ISSL, which can iteratively extract each source's DOA without threshold until the termination criterion is met. Unlike threshold-based algorithms, ISSL designs an active source detector network based on binary classifier to accept residual spatial spectrum and decide whether to stop the iteration. By doing so, our ISSL can deal with an arbitrary number of sources, even more than the number of sources seen during the training stage. The experimental results show that our ISSL achieves significant performance improvements in both DOA estimation and source number detection compared with the existing threshold-based algorithms. This study explores integrating a novel cutaneous force feedback system for robotic-assisted surgery (RAS) systems aimed at improving tactile perception for surgical precision and safety. The system developed comprises two major components: a force-sensitive matrix sensor and a 4x4 tactile pin interface. Forces experienced by the sensors are mirrored through the tactile interface, conveying the sensation of knowing which part of the sensor is in contact and how much force is subjected to it. An algorithm called Dynamic Interval Localization (DIL) was developed to manipulate pin actuation by scheduling individualized dynamic oscillation. The system successfully detected operating forces from 0.1N to 5N while concurrently providing respective cutaneous feedback. The system’s performance in force localization suggests significant potential and promises in elevating the haptic features of RAS systems.

Co-Salient Object Detection (CoSOD) aims at discovering salient objects that repeatedly appear in a given query group containing two or more relevant images. One challenging issue is how to effectively capture co-saliency cues by modeling and exploiting inter-image relationships. In this paper, we present an end-to-end collaborative aggregation-and-distribution network (CoADNet) to capture both salient and repetitive visual patterns from multiple images. First, we integrate saliency priors into the backbone features to suppress the redundant background information through an online intra-saliency guidance structure. After that, we design a two-stage aggregate-and-distribute architecture to explore group-wise semantic interactions and produce the co-saliency features. In the first stage, we propose a group-attentional semantic aggregation module that models inter-image relationships to generate the group-wise semantic representations. In the second stage, we propose a gated group distribution module that adaptively distributes the learned group semantics to different individuals in a dynamic gating mechanism. Finally, we develop a group consistency preserving decoder tailored for the CoSOD task, which maintains group constraints during feature decoding to predict more consistent full-resolution co-saliency maps. The proposed CoADNet is evaluated on four prevailing CoSOD benchmark datasets, which demonstrates the remarkable performance improvement over ten state-of-the-art competitors. © 2020 Neural information processing systems foundation. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), large language models (LLMs) have shown strong capabilities in natural language understanding, reasoning, and generation, attracting amounts of research interest in applying LLMs to health and medicine. Critical care medicine (CCM) provides diagnosis and treatment for critically ill patients who often require intensive monitoring and interventions in intensive care units (ICUs). Can LLMs be applied to CCM? Are LLMs just like stochastic parrots or ICU experts in assisting clinical decision-making? This scoping review aims to provide a panoramic portrait of the application of LLMs in CCM. Literature in seven databases, including PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of science, CINAHL, IEEE Xplore, and ACM Digital Library, were searched from January 1, 2019, to June 10, 2024. Peer-reviewed journal and conference articles that discussed the application of LLMs in critical care settings were included. studies were excluded if they did not address LLMs in CCM or were non-English publications. From an initial 619 articles, 24 were selected for final review using a standard scoping review methodology. After a rigorous examination, this review grouped applications of LLMs in CCM into three categories: clinical decision support, medical documentation and reporting, and medical education and doctor-patient communication. Compared to traditional AI models, LLMs have advantages in handling unstructured data and do not require manual feature engineering. Meanwhile, applying LLMs to CCM faces challenges, including hallucinations and poor interpretability, sensitivity to prompts, bias and alignment challenges, and privacy and ethics issues. Future research should enhance model reliability and interpretability, improve training and deployment scalability, integrate up-to-date medical knowledge, and strengthen privacy and ethical guidelines. The usage of Automatic Speaker Verification (ASV) in educational contexts has grown as a result of measurements of the speech signal in the claimed identity's native tongue. Even though resource-rich languages have received a lot of attention, low-resource languages, like Punjabi, still require work to be done on the development of ASV systems. In this study, an effort has been put forth to create an ASV system based on an i-vector for children while authenticating the student's dialects in Punjab region. Additionally, it has been determined how changing the Universal Background Model (UBM) size and i-vector dimensionality for the proposed system would affect the performance measure i.e. Equal Error Rate (EER). Finally, the EER values for the Malwa and Majha regions were lower than expected, at 8.47% and 9.26%, respectively. However, the output shows a large EER of 14.25% in Doaba region in comparison to that of Malwa and Majha regions.

The psychological reactions of candidates to personnel selection are becoming more important since they significantly impact the outcome of the selection process. In this study, we created and evaluated the Multi-dimensional Job Interview Self-Efficacy Scale (MJISE). Five components of interviewees' self-efficacy form the basis of our proposed MJISE: self-promotion, dealing with difficult interviewers, interview-related anxiety, and content and practical interview *** proposed approach consists of three stages, which are preprocessing data, training the model, and extracting features. When it comes to text classification, preprocessing is king. In order to make text data useable by a classifier, it is necessary to extract a set of words from the text data and convert them into a feature set. Throughout the training process, it employed a GCNN. With a 91.30% average accuracy, our innovative approach surpasses CNN and ANN.

This study outlines the distributed feedback laser for signal power amplitude level improvement in the long spectral band of 1550 nm wavelength within supporting pumped wavelength of 1480 nm. The bias and modulation peak currents based distributed feedback laser are varied in order to test the signal power level, peak signal amplitude variations after the fiber-optic channel and light detectors. The signal power level, peak signal amplitude is measured against spectral wavelength and time bit period variations. The study emphasis the signal power level, peak signal amplitude are enhanced for the best selection values of both a bias current at 45 mA and modulation peak current at 0.5 mA. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH. Viral disease can occur through direct contact with immunopathogenesis. The consecutive reappearance of the Nipah virus is one of the human-zoonotic viruses relevant to the Hendra virus (HeV) which spreads due to the impact of pteropus bats/flying foxes or unprotected pets and causes a serious attack and encephalitis. First, the NiV was reported in Malaysia in 1998. Subsequently, lung disease was recently discovered in the Kerala district. According to WHO statistics, the identification of zoonotic disease, one of the main challenges and cause of numerous outbreaks, coincide with the season of the sap harvest, that is, from winter to spring. The huge family of Henipavirus extends new species of deadly disease called Nipah by the novel Paramyxovirus pathogen. The goal of this work is to predict and diagnose virus by knowing the effectiveness of machine learning as soon as possible due to lethality. In current medical care, PCR or serology works effectively to diagnose the virulent, in which the body is rapidly transformed through the blood immunity cells, which it infects with asymptomatic symptoms. This document aims to summarize the machine learning technique, which is one of the main areas in the field of data analysis, although it plays a more important role in many real-time applications; the healthcare sector analyses the multiple machine learning algorithms for disease prediction and/or solution analysis. The minor inconvenience of the healthcare sector may take some time to clarify the test result. From a medical point of view, there are no syringes and there are no validated drugs available against the Nipah virus. So far, the result reaches a high mortality. Here, the summary of Nipah reports to stimulate researchers to observe the disease in the first phase with high precision and also tracks the drugs associated with Nipah.
