Crowd evacuation has become a primary safety issue in many public places in a metropolitan area. Experts from different fields have worked on modeling and designing evacuating policies by using different tools and methods. In this paper, an optimal control approach is used to derive guiding strategies for the rescue agents under different circumstances. Various optimal control problems are formulated to handle different assumptions of the scenario. Both the analytic solutions and the numerical simulation confirm the efficiency of this approach, which in turn can be potentially used as decision-making support in practical applications.

This paper describes a theoretical framework for the design of controllers to satisfy probabilistic safety specifications for partially observable discrete time stochastic hybrid systems. We formulate the problem as a partial information stochastic optimal control problem, in which the objective is to maximize the probability that the state trajectory remains within a given safe set in the hybrid state space, using observations of the history of inputs and outputs. It is shown that this optimal control problem, which has a multiplicative payoff structure, is equivalent to a terminal payoff problem when the state space is augmented with a binary random variable capturing the safety of past state evolution. This allows us to derive a sufficient statistic for the probabilistic safety problem as a set of Bayesian filtering equations updating a conditional distribution on the augmented state space, as well as an abstract dynamic programming algorithm for computing the maximal probability of safety and an optimal control policy.

With the continuous increase of user requirement, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has developed rapidly. As a result, both capacity and coverage performances have been improved, and at the same time, the communication networks have been more energy-intensive. In order to improve the energy efficiency of cellular networks, the green communication must be realized in the future networks. In this article, we present a short survey on energy-efficient technology of cellular networks. Moreover, we classify them into three categories based on theirapplication scenarios: energy-efficient architectures, energy-efficient resource management and energy-efficient radio technologies. For the first scenario, the applications of relay, Coordinated Multiple Points (CoMP) and heterogeneous network are discussed in detail. For the second scenario, the switching off scheme will be introduced as an emphasis of this part. And for the third scenario, the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) will be introduced as the representatives of the Energy-Efficient Radio Technologies. Finally, based on the technologies introduced above, a prospect forecast of the energy-efficient wireless cellular network is presented.

With the continuous increase of user requirement, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has developed rapidly. As a result, both capacity and coverage performances have been improved, and at the same time, the communication networks have been more energy-intensive. In this paper, we combine navigation function-like potential fields and constraint based programming to achieve obstacle avoidance in formation. Constraint based programming was developed in robotic manipulation as a technique to take several constraints into account when controlling redundant manipulators. The approach has also been generalized, and applied to other controlsystems such as dual arm manipulators and unmanned aerial vehicles. Navigation functions are an elegant way to design controllers with provable properties for navigation problems. By combining these tools, we take advantage of the redundancy inherent in a multi-agent control problem and are able to concurrently address features such as formation maintenance and goal convergence, even in the presence of moving obstacles. We show how the user can decide a priority ordering of the objectives, as well as a clear way of seeing what objectives are currently addressed and what are postponed. We also analyze the theoretical properties of the proposed controller. Finally, we use a set of simulations to illustrate the approach.

Stochastic Model Predictive control (SMPC) for discrete-time linear systems subject to additive disturbances with chance constraints on the states and hard constraints on the inputs is considered. Current chance constrained MPC methods--based on analytic reformulations or on sampling approaches--tend to be conservative partly because they fail to exploit the predefined violation level in closed-loop. For many practical applications, this conservatism can lead to a loss in performance. We propose an adaptive SMPC scheme that starts with a standard conservative chance constrained formulation and then on-line adapts the formulation of constraints based on the experienced violation frequency. Using martingale theory we establish guarantees of convergence to the desired level of constraint violation in closed-loop for a special class of linear systems. Comments are given on how to extend this to a broader class of (non-)linear systems. The developed methodology is demonstrated with an illustrative example.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has attracted substantial research effort over the past decade. In service-based systems, where multiple services providing the same functionality are available, it is necessary to select the appropriate services to be used in service composition to provide better quality of service (QoS) for service consumers. In order to select the best service composition for concurrent service requests, we present an adaptive control strategy which performs service selection based on the historical usage information of all the candidate services. A case study of a data stream management system is presented to validate the effectiveness of the adaptive control strategy, and examine the effect of the concurrency level on the process of the strategy's decision.

The aim of this work is to present an entropy-like Lyapunov function based dynamic feedback design technique for quasi-polynomial and Lotka-Volterra systems. It is shown, that the dynamic feedback design problem is equivalent to the feasibility of a bilinear matrix inequality. The problem is also formulated as a control Lyapunov function based feedback design when the Lyapunov function parameters are given, the solution of this problem can be obtained by solving a linear matrix inequality. The developed method is illustrated on a simple numerical example.
