Object tracking algorithm based on Meanshift algorithm with fixed kernel bandwidth does not realize object tracking correctly with the scale of object changed. According to this, a scheme of kernel bandwidth adaptive adjustment and predictions of object cancroids based on Kalman filter is proposed in this paper. In this algorithm, Object location predicted based on Kalman filter is used to initialize the Meanshift algorithm. The variation tendency of the kernel bandwidth is also determined based on Kalman filter. Experiment results demonstrate that this algorithm can realize the kernel bandwidth adaptive adjustment and object location prediction. The robustness of the tracking algorithm is also enhanced.

This work presents the tools and procedure developed by the authors to create synchronous collaborative virtual and remote laboratories within a web course produced with a learning management system. Thanks to them, an instructor can prepare virtual and/or remote laboratories and easily add them to its online web course, automatically obtaining collaborative features. Also, any member (either a student or a teacher), as long as s/he is enrolled in the course, can use the system to invite other enrolled users to a real-time collaborative experimental session with any of the laboratories that belong to that course. The extension tools presented in this work are based in two different free and open source software programs: Moodle as the learning management system that offers the web environment and Easy Java Simulations for creating the virtual and remote laboratories with collaborative support. © 2012 IFAC.

This paper emphasize the way in which the co-creation of value can profit from semantic-driven social software, taking into consideration the case of educational services delivered in the cloud. The solution is delivered in the context of the POS-DRU Project no. 57748 "INSEED - Strategic Program Fostering Service Innovation Through Open, Continuous education" and it approaches conception and development of an open, collaborative, interactive environment to gather around universities, industry, governmental agencies and European institutions in order to foster service innovation by means of information / proves / technological transfer of the research results aiming to develop sustainable service systems solutions. In this respect, a specification proposal for a collaborative service process based on co-creation of value between educational service providers and consumers is presented. As a case study, a deployment proposal in the IBM Cloud environment for the INSEED project is depicted. © 2012 IFAC.

A new likelihood-based stochastic knock controller, that achieves a significantly improved regulatory response relative to conventional strategies, while also maintaining a rapid transient response is presented. Up until now it has only been evaluated using simulations and the main contribution here is the implementation and validation of the knock controller on a five cylinder engine with variable compression ratio. Furthermore, an extension of the fast response strategy and a re-tuning of the controller is shown to improve performance. The controller is validated with respect to its robustness to changes in engine operating condition as well as compression ratio. The likelihood-based controller is demonstrated in engine tests and compared to a conventional controller and it is shown that it is able to operate closer to the knock limit with less variations in control action without increasing the risk of engine damage.

In this paper design and control of planar cable-driven parallel robots are studied in an experimental prospective. Since in this class of manipulators, cable tensionability conditions must be met, feedback control of such robots becomes more challenging than for conventional robots. To meet these conditions, internal force control structure is introduced and used in addition to a PID control scheme to ensure that all cables remain in tension. A robust PID controller is proposed for partial knowledge of the robot, to keep the tracking errors bounded. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is examined through experiments on K.N. Toosi planar cable-driven robot and it is shown that the proposed control structure is able to provide suitable performance in practice.

Solutions of the output regulation problem in a nonlinear setting invariably target systems presented under some normal form. This paper reviews a recently introduced such form for MIMO nonlinear systems and discusses consequent necessary conditions for solving the MIMO nonlinear output regulation problem. As opposed to the (by now classic) form based on the notion of vector relative degree that is only specific to some square invertible MIMO nonlinear systems, the recent form applies to general (not necessarily invertible, nor square) systems. It turns out that, as far as output regulation goes, the recent form fits better some assumptions that have already been used in the context of square invertible systems and, more important, that can still be used (thanks to this particular normal form) in the context of not square ones. © 2012 IEEE.

Handling Infeasibilities in Dual Modifier-Adaptation Methodology for Real-Time Optimization

This work shows an extension of dual-modifier adaptation methodology for RTO to reduce the infeasibilities. The main idea is to add a PI controller that is activated only when the measurements shows a violation in the constraints. Since the dual problem is solved to estimate the gradients of the process, an additional controller must be considered in order to increase the inverse of the condition number of the matrix formed with past values. The methodology presented has been applied in a simulated oxygen consumption plant. The results show that, under modelling mismatch, the method finds the real optimum of the process in a feasible path.

Laboratory Plant of a Gas Distribution Network

This work shows the implementation of a laboratory – scale oxygen distribution plant built with the aim of being used as a benchmark for control and optimization of networked processes. The plant emulates the architecture and the main problems that can be found in real facilities which combine several complex processes linked with shared resources that impose the need of coordinated operation and control. The paper describes the plant and the corresponding models and its control system. Additionally several applications and test are suggested to be performed, including methods for optimization of large scale systems handling uncertain behaviour of process, parameter estimation techniques and distributed model predictive control.

The research of software design, based on the supervisory control theory, is an important content in software cybernetics. The existing software model used in the software design with the supervisory control theory is Polynomial Dynamic System (PDS), which is transformed from SIGNAL files. This obstructs its widespread application. Extended Finite State Machine (EFSM) model is widely applied in software engineering field and it may alleviate the state explosion problem of Finite State Machine (FSM) to some extent. In this paper, the EFSM model is suggested to study software design problem. This paper proposed two kinds of software design problems based on EFSM model. For the first problem, a necessary and sufficient condition for software existence is obtained. For the second problem, a necessary and sufficient condition for software existence and an optimal algorithm to such software design are presented. © (2012) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
