Several works regarding facial recognition have dealt with methods which identify isolated characteristics of the face or with templates which encompass several regions of it. In this paper a new technique which approaches the problem holistically dispensing with the need to identify geometrical characteristics or regions of the face is introduced. The characterization of a face is achieved by randomly sampling selected attributes of the pixels of its image. From this information we construct a set of data, which correspond to the values of low frequencies, gradient, entropy and another several characteristics of pixel of the image. Generating a set of "p" variables. The multivariate data set with different polynomials minimizing the data fitness error in the minimax sense (L∞ - Norm) is approximated. With the use of a Genetic Algorithm (GA) it is able to circumvent the problem of dimensionality inherent to higher degree polynomial approximations. The GA yields the degree and values of a set of coefficients of the polynomials approximating of the image of a face. By finding a family of characteristic polynomials from several variables (pixel characteristics) for each face (say Fi ) in the data base through a resampling process the system in use, is trained. A face (say F ) is recognized by finding its characteristic polynomials and using an Classifier from F 's polynomials to each of the Fi 's polynomials. The winner is the polynomial family closer to F 's corresponding to target face in data base.

In this paper we address the question of “Why is it that a mobile robot, programmed in a certain way and placed in some environment to execute a program, behaves in the way it does?”. We present three real world experiments in which we first obtain transparent controllers to express sensor-motor couplings of a mobile robot. We then use these models to analyze the robot behaviour formally; in particular to understand how the sensor readings are related to motor commands, to evaluate the derived controllers from a mathematical point of view and even to predict the behaviour of the robot in untested environments.

This paper is devoted to the modeling problem of hypersonic vehicle with significant couplings. An integrated approach is developed to analytically model the dynamics of hypersonic vehicle, in which the effects of variable mass, spherical rotating earth, and couplings among the sub-models are considered. Furthermore, a preliminary analysis is conducted using the general data of a hypersonic vehicle. The simulation results show that the maximum of the Coriolis force can reach values up to 7.02% of the vehicle weight, and that the thermal load determined by the nonuniform aerodynamic heating and the properties of the structure has a significant influence on the elastic deformation.

Abstract The problem to minimize power losses in an electrical network subject to voltage and power constraints is in general hard to solve. However, it has recently been discovered that semidefinite programming relaxations in many cases enable exact computation of the global optimum. Here we point out a fundamental reason for the successful relaxations, namely that the passive network components give rise to matrices with nonnegative offdiagonal entries. This paper proposes a secondary voltage waveform control approach to suppress harmonics in islanded microgrids. Compared with the secondary control for traditional large power systems, the proposed control scheme can regulate the voltage waveform instead of voltage magnitude of sensitive buses in islanded microgrids. In addition to the centralized controller for fundamental frequency voltage component, a selective harmonic compensator is implemented in the secondary voltage control system. With the help of Park transformation, the cyclic references generated by the selective harmonic compensator passed through a low-bandwidth communication system to each primary control system for distributed generation units. Thus, combined with the high-bandwidth local voltage controllers in the primary controlsystems, harmonic voltage distortions in islanded microgrids are redistributed and reduced. Simulations are performed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control approach.
