Microbiological and biological analysis of polymer-oxide coatings formed on dental implants enriched with clindamycin

Coatings on dental implants are still being developed in order to obtain an ideal balance between their cytocompatibility and antibacterial properties. This paper presents the bacteriostatic and biological properties of oxide-polymer layers with clindamycin on titanium dental implants. A layer was formed on the surface of titanium implants, which was composed of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and clindamycin. The surface morphology was analyzed using an optical microscope and a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Clindamycin loaded into the polymer was successfully found to inhibit S. aureus and slightly inhibit E. coli bacteria. The average inhibition zone obtained for S. aureus was 14 mm. Only single bacteria were found to be adhered to the implant surface, and changes in their morphology were observed (SEM analysis). The cytocompatibility of the implant extracts was evaluated via the Alamar Blue test and by using cytometry techniques. More than 95 % of L929 cells were found to be living after 24 h of their culture with extracts collected from the implants with hybrid coatings. Additionally, the stability of different concentrations of clindamycin in aqueous solutions at various temperatures was analyzed. It was found that the storage of clindamycin at 4 °C caused the lowest changes in concentration. The concentration of clindamycin influenced both the L929 cells’ viability and bacterial inhibition. © 2025 The Authors

The article presents two approaches to the method of implementation of transformations of fuzzy queries into queries in the SQL standard. This implementation can be carried out: (1) in a database (in the form of functions, procedures, triggers or other acceptable form), using the existing query processing system in the database, and thus it can expand the functionality of that database;(2) in an application (which communicates with the database), and thus a considerable portion of calculations will be transferred from the database to that application. An analysis of those approaches was conducted and it was demonstrated that the presented methods should enjoy extensive practical application.

Driver drowsiness electroencephalogram (EEG) signal monitoring can promptly alert drivers of their drowsiness in edge-end Consumer Electronics (CE), thereby reducing the probability of traffic accidents. Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) have shown significant advancements in processing the non-stationary, time-varying, and non-Euclidean nature of EEG signals. However, the existing single-channel EEG adjacency graph construction process lacks interpretability, which hinders the ability of GCNs to effectively extract adjacency graph features, thus affecting the performance of drowsiness monitoring. To address this issue, we propose an edge-end Lightweight Dual Graph Convolutional Network (LDGCN). Specifically, we are the first to incorporate neurophysiological knowledge to design a Baseline Drowsiness Status Adjacency Graph (BDSAG), which characterizes driver drowsiness status. Additionally, to express more features within limited EEG data, we introduce the Augmented Graph-level Module (AGM). This module captures global and local information at the graph level, ensuring that BDSAG features remain intact while enhancing effective feature expression capability. To further enhance the application of CE, we apply Adaptive Pruning Optimization (APO) to the channels and neurons of LDGCN, which nearly halves the inference latency. Experiments on benchmark datasets demonstrate that LDGCN offers the best trade-off between monitoring performance and hardware resource utilization, outperforming existing state-of-the-art algorithms. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The article proves first that the constant quality factor (Q) contours for passive circuits, while represented on a 2D Smith chart, form circle arcs on a coaxal circle family. Furthermore, these circle arcs represent semi-circles families in the north hemisphere while represented on a 3D Smith chart. On the contrary we show that the constant Q contours for active circuits with negative resistance form complementary circle arcs on the same family of coaxal circles in the exterior of the 2D Smith chart. Also, we find out that these constant Q contours represent complementary semi-circles in the south hemisphere while represented on the 3D Smith chart for negative resistance circuits. The constant Q - computer aided design (CAD) implementation of the Q semi-circles on the 3D Smith chart is then successfully used to evaluate the quality factor variations of newly fabricated Vanadium dioxide inductors first, directly from their reflection coefficient, as the temperature is increased from room temperature to 50 degrees Celsius (°C). Thus, a direct multi-parameter frequency dependent analysis is proposed including Q, inductance and reflection coefficient for inductors. Then, quality factor direct analysis is used for two tunnel diode small signal equivalent circuits analysis, allowing for the first time the Q and input impedance direct analysis on Smith chart representation of a circuit, including negative resistance. The scope of this study is to determine if the information technology can affects people’s behavior and or opinion. A way to identify it is using a tool to collect answers using or not using the technology. How? Making surveys. Nowadays there are 2 main categories of survey administration. The traditional paper data collection method and the relatively new web-based method. Although the two acquisition processes are completely different, each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, facility or difficulty, adoption or not. The scope of this paper is to study factors that affect each survey type and find the preferable questionnaire administration method. To compare survey media, responses from University students were taken. We tried to investigate the reliability, honesty, item mean, response rate, completeness of data, and also made factor analysis comparisons across survey media. The experiment was applied on the same audience and theme, using different methods. From the data analyses the results between paper and online media in this experiment appear to be major, and seem to have a significant effect on overall results. The majority of differences found on questions related with personal criticism (where anonymity plays a significant role), and on response rates.

A Lyapunov framework for nested dynamical systems on multiple time scales with application to converter-based power systems

In this work, we present a Lyapunov function framework for establishing stability with respect to a compact set of a nested interconnection of nonlinear dynamical systems ordered from slow to fast according to their convergence rates. The proposed approach explicitly considers more than two time scales, and does not require modeling multiple time scales via scalar time constants. Motivated by the technical results, we develop a novel control strategy for a grid-forming power converter that consists of an inner cascaded two-degree of freedom controller and dispatchable virtual oscillator control as a reference model. The resulting closed-loop converter-based AC power system is in the form of a nested system with multiple time scales. We apply our technical results to obtain explicit bounds on the controller set-points, branch powers, and control gains that guarantee almost global asymptotic stability of the multi-converter AC power system with respect to a pre-specified solution of the AC power-flow equations. Finally, we validate the performance of the proposed control structure in a case study using a high-fidelity simulation with detailed hardware validated converter models. The paper deals with a power measurement methods and higher harmonics in circuit with LED light sources. The laws on the electric power quality in Poland has been presented. Current and voltage waveforms are analysed. The frequency spectrum of the current circuit is presented. The coefficients of power quality were determined and reference to the standard. The powers in the circuit with LED lamps were calculated and analysed. © 2018 IEEE.

Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) implement a specific form of multi-variate extrapolation and will generate an output for any input pattern, even when there is no similar training pattern. Extrapolations are not necessarily to be trusted, and in order to support safety critical systems, we require such systems to give an indication of the training sample related uncertainty associated with their output. Some readers may think that this is a well known issue which is already covered by the basic principles of pattern recognition. We will explain below how this is not the case and how the conventional (Likelihood estimate of) conditional probability of classification does not correctly assess this uncertainty. We provide a discussion of the standard interpretations of this problem and show how a quantitative approach based upon long standing methods can be practically applied. The methods are illustrated on the task of early diagnosis of dementing diseases using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

A coupled computational approach to simultaneously learn a vector field and the region of attraction of an equilibrium point from generated trajectories of the system is proposed. The nonlinear identification leverages the local stability information as a prior on the system, effectively endowing the estimate with this important structural property. In addition, the knowledge of the region of attraction plays an experiment design role by informing the selection of initial conditions from which trajectories are generated and by enabling the use of a Lyapunov function of the system as a regularization term. Numerical results show that the proposed method allows efficient sampling and provides an accurate estimate of the dynamics in an inner approximation of its region of attraction.
