For the stability of 2-dimensional (2D) filters it is required that the denominator polynomial of the transfer function (or the characteristic polynomial of the state-space model) have no zeros in the closed unit bidisc. A new algebraic test is presented to test this stability condition using 3 simple 1D conditions and a generalized eigenvalue problem. The approach is based on using the conjugate of the original polynomial together with Tschebyscheff polynomials to transform the problem of stability analysis of a polynomial with coefficients depending on a complex variable to a problem with a polynomial with coefficients depending on a real variable. It is shown that the latter condition can be tested using a generalized eigenvalue problem. The method is illustrated with an example.

The European eSafety initiative aims to improve the safety and efficiency of road transport. The main element of eSafety is the pan-European eCall project—an in-vehicle system which idea is to inform about road collisions or serious accidents. As estimated by the European Commission, the implemented system will reduce services’ response time by 40%. This will save 2,500 people a year. In 2015, the European Parliament adopted the legislation that from the end of March 2018 all new cars from the EU should be equipped with the eCall system. The limitation of this idea is that only small part of cars driven in UE are brand new (about 3.7% brand new cars were sold in 2015). This paper presents the first concept of an onboard eCall device which can be installed at the owners’ request in used vehicles. The proposed system will be able to detect a road accident, indicate the number of vehicle’s occupants, report their vital functions, and send that information to dedicated emergency services via duplex communication channel. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Semantic Web Annotation using Deep Learning with Arabic Morphology

In order to realize the vision of Semantic Web, which is a Web of things instead of Web of documents, there is a need to convert existing Web of documents into Semantic content that could be processed by machines. Semantic annotation tool could be used to perform this task through using common and public ontologies. Due to exponential growth and the huge size of Web sources, there is a need to have a fast and automatic Semantic annotation of Web documents. The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of word embeddings from deep learning algorithms to semantically annotate the Arabic Web documents. To enhance the performance of the Semantic annotation, we utilized the complex morphological structure of Arabic words. Moreover, evaluating the performance of the proposed framework requires selecting a set of domain ontologies with relevant and annotated related documents. The proposed framework produces Semantic annotations for these documents by using different standard output formats. The initial results show a promising performance that will support the research in the Semantic Web with respect to Arabic language.

We investigate the existence of nonnegative solutions for a Riemann-Liouville fractional differential equation with integral terms, subject to boundary conditions which contain fractional derivatives and Riemann-Stieltjes integrals. In the proof of the main results, we use the Banach contraction mapping principle and the Krasnosel’skii fixed point theorem for the sum of two operators.

This paper describes a formation of hybrid coatings on a Ti-2Ta-3Zr-36Nb *** is accomplished by plasma electrolytic oxidation and a dip-coating technique with poly(adipic anhydride)((C6H8O3)n)that is loaded with drugs:amoxicillin(C16H19N3O5S),cefazolin(C14H14N8O4S3)or vancomycin(C66H75Cl2N9O24·xHCl).The characteristic microstructure of the polymer was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and confocal *** on the surface treatment,the surface roughness varied(between 1.53μm and 2.06μm),and the wettability was change with the over of time.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the oxide layer did not affect the polymer layer or loaded ***,the drugs lose their stability in a phosphate-buffered saline solution after 6.5 h of exposure,and its decrease was greater than 7%(HPLC analysis).The stability,drug release and concentration of the drug loaded into the material were precisely analyzed by high-performance liquid *** results correlated with the degradation of the polymer in which the addition of drugs caused the percent of degraded polymer to be between 35.5%and 49.4%after 1 h of material immersion,depending on the mass of the loaded drug and various biological responses that were ***,all of the coatings were cytocompatible with MG-63 osteoblast-like *** drug concentrations released from the coatings were sufficient to inhibit adhesion of reference and clinical bacterial strains(***).The coatings with amoxicillin showed the best results in the bacterial inhibition zone,whereas coatings with cefazolin inhibited adhesion of the above bacteria on the surface.

Over the years, industrial automation has repeatedly been impacted by the continuous and tremendous evolution in the fields of computer systems, electronics and data transmission. Industry 4.0, the current wave of the industrial revolution- dubbed the data revolution -, integrates these advances in communication and computational systems with the Internet, resulting in a paradigm shift towards the (Industrial) Internet of Things. Automation systems and remote data acquisition systems evolved over the last years from classic solutions based on wired infrastructure to modern, flexible solutions bringing together wireless communications, battery powered devices and wireless sensors networks. In this paper we first define the main problems encountered in modern wireless automation systems - small distance limitations of wireless communication solutions, weak security or complete lack of security in data transmission, and high energy consumption of battery powered remote data acquisition systems. In order to address these limitations, we propose, implement, trial-run and benchmark a novel low power LoRa-based flexible hardware architecture for use in industrial remote monitoring and control. We obtain a LoS capability above 3km and a calculated autonomy of about 10 years, exceeding the capabilities of current State of the Art solutions.

However, the drawback with this certificate lies in its realization dependency. Firstly, computing such a realization requires to find a polyhedral cone with a potentially high number of extremal generators that lifts the dimension of the state-space representation, significantly. Secondly, not all externally positive systems posses an internally positive realization. Thirdly, in many typical applications such as controller design, system identification and model order reduction, internal positivity is not preserved. To overcome these drawbacks, we present a tractable sufficient certificate of external positivity based on second-order cones. This certificate does not require any special state-space realization: If it succeeds with a possibly non-minimal realization, then it will do so with any minimal realization. While there exist systems where this certificate is also necessary, we also demonstrate how to construct systems, where both second-order and polyhedral cones as well as other certificates fail. Nonetheless, in contrast to other realization independent certificates, the present one appears to be favourable in terms of applicability and conservatism. Three applications are representatively discussed to underline its potential. We show how the certificate can be used to find externally positive approximations of nearly externally positive systems and demonstrated that this may help to reduce system identification errors. The same algorithm is used then to design state-feedback controllers that provide closed-loop external positivity, a common approach to avoid over- A nd undershooting of the step response. Lastly, we present modifications to generalized balanced truncation such that external positivity is preserved for those systems, where our certificate applies. Copyright

This paper studies the synchronization of a finite number of Kuramoto oscillators in a frequency-dependent bidirectional tree network. We assume that the coupling strength of each link in each direction is equal to the product of a common coefficient and the exogenous frequency of its corresponding source oscillator. We derive a sufficient condition for the common coupling strength in order to guarantee frequency synchronization in tree networks. Moreover, we discuss the dependency of the obtained bound on both the graph structure and the way that exogenous frequencies are distributed. Further, we present an application of the obtained result by means of an event-triggered algorithm for achieving frequency synchronization in a star network assuming that the common coupling coefficient is given. © 2018 IEEE.
