The increasing prevalence of smart building architectures, driven by the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and automation systems, has led to a surge in energy consumption. This research explores the application of swarm intelligence techniques as an innovative approach to optimize neural networks, aiming to strike a balance between maintaining the desired performance levels and minimizing energy consumption. The study investigates the integration of swarm-based optimization algorithms, such as Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) into the training and operation of neural networks. These algorithms enable the networks to dynamically adapt and optimize their parameters in response to changing environmental conditions and user requirements. The research focuses on developing a comprehensive framework that considers the specific challenges posed by smart building architectures, including real-time data processing, sensor integration, and adaptive control. The proposed approach aims to achieve optimal neural network configurations that minimize energy consumption while ensuring reliable and responsive operation of smart building systems. The results demonstrate the potential of swarm intelligence to significantly improve the energy efficiency of neural network-enabled smart building architectures, providing a promising avenue for sustainable and intelligent infrastructure. The proposed model has an accuracy of 98.23% which is 7.64% higher than that of the traditional approaches. © 2024 IEEE.

One-Sided Lipschitz (OSL) fractional order modeling is a top choice for solving the stabilization issue of nonlinear systems. Despite numerous studies on the subject, there remains a gap in understanding when it comes to fractional calculus. By providing a stabilizing strategy for a certain type of OSL fractional order nonlinear systems, this study fills the gap. A numerical example demonstrating the correctness of the suggested approach and demonstrating its efficacy for the tested class. © 2023 IEEE.

Feature engineering is a crucial step in building well-performing machine learning pipelines. However, manually constructing highly predictive features is time-consuming and requires domain knowledge. Although the research area of automated feature engineering has attracted much interest lately, both in academia and industry, the scalability and efficiency of the existing systems and tools are still practically unsatisfactory. This paper presents a scalable and interpretable automated feature engineering framework, BigFeat, that optimizes input features' quality to maximize the predictive performance according to a user-defined metric. BigFeat employs a dynamic feature generation and selection mechanism that constructs a set of expressive features that improve the prediction performance while retaining interpretability. Extensive experiments are conducted, and the results show that BigFeat provides superior performance compared to the state-of-the-art automated feature engineering framework, AutoFeat, on a wide range of datasets. We show that BigFeat significantly improves the F1-Score of 8 classifiers by 4.59%, on average. In addition, the performance improvement achieved by integrating BigFeat into different AutoML frameworks is higher than that achieved by integrating AutoFeat into the same frameworks. Besides, the scalability of BigFeat is confirmed by its linear complexity, parallel design, and execution time which is, on average, 22x faster than AutoFeat. © 2022 IEEE.

This study addresses the affine formation maneuver control of cooperative multi-agent systems (MAS) having periodic inter-agent communication for both static and dynamic leader cases. Here, we focus on the leader-follower MASs. The primary aim of the control system is to steer the entire collection of agents to produce required patterns (geometric) along with any required maneuver through the direct control of only few a selected agents referred to as leaders. Most of the existing works are constrained to either the individual agents communicate with each other in continuous-time or the sample-data scenario where the leaders are stationary or have constant acceleration or velocities. Here, we consider the scenarios where the velocities of the leaders can be time-varying or constant. Here, different cases are addressed and some control laws are proposed. Conditions are established to help guarantee the overall stability of the systems. A simulation study is employed for the illustration of our proposed laws. © 2024 IEEE.

This study proposes methods that can be used to examine and interpret comments that users have made after watching videos on YouTube on a particular topic. YouTube tutorials are very popular among young people. They have become an important pillar in informal education, thus contributing to the rapid acquisition of skills and knowledge. Under these circumstances, we were interested in analysing the YouTube videos comments, knowing that the platform has a continuous increase in popularity, which is also due to the opportunities of sharing them. Since ChatGPT-themed YouTube videos have seen a significant surge in popularity since 2022, we were interested to analyse some videos that approach the topics of 'ChatGPT, AI clone, AI robot and Deep Learning.' © 2024 IEEE.

This article presents a versatile model of failure prediction in control systems of objects with large time constants. The basic model of a control unit consists of deterministic finite automaton (DFA) which states correspond to states of the system where system variables satisfy a given set of constraints. System failures can be predicted on the basis of time series of the selected signals. Further diagnosis is performed on the basis of rough set theory and original algorithms for attributes' reduction and decision rule generation. A versatile failure prediction algorithm is constructed that integrates all involved techniques. Cooling systems are application examples of the proposed methodology. © 2023 IEEE.

This work introduces a method for closed-loop system identification using frequency analysis, employing Empirical Transfer Function Estimation (ETFE). By integrating optimization within a Monte Carlo framework, it enhances the precision of ETFE, resulting in minimized frequency response errors compared to actual system data. Leveraging controller information in an offline model fitting scheme, it achieves optimal realization of process dynamics. The method is evaluated on a data center rack-level cooling system, showing Bode magnitude plots of actual and estimated closed-loop and open-loop dynamics, with confidence intervals demonstrating algorithm consistency. Numerical evaluations confirm the feasibility and potential of the approach to improve offline closed-loop system identification performance in the frequency domain, beneficial for analysis and design. There will not be a comparative study for the introduced approach.

Image dehazing is an important research topic and hotspot in the fields of image processing and computer vision. Therefore, evaluating the performance of image dehazing algorithms has become an import research issue. However, current image quality assessment (IQA) algorithms only judge the final dehazed image and do not give an analysis of the capabilities of the image dehazing algorithm. In order to fill this gap, we propose an image dehazing quality assessment method that integrated the dark channel prior with image depth estimation. The proposed method first uses the dark channel prior to estimate the absolute amount of haze removed from each pixel as an indication of the performance of dehazing. Then, a dual-scale variance ratio method is introduced to estimate the scene depth of the image. Finally, the relative dehazing is calculated from the obtained absolute dehazing and the image depth to represent the capability of the dehazing algorithm. The method proposed in this paper first introduces the concepts of relative and absolute dehazing quantities, along with pioneering a pixel-level evaluation of dehazing outcomes. Extensive experiments show that the algorithm proposed in this paper is more in line with human subjective judgment than other IQA algorithms. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Energy-balancing dual-port grid-forming control for VSC-HVDC systems

This work examines energy-balancing dual port grid-forming (GFM) control for high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission. In contrast to the state-of-the-art, HVDC converters controlled in this way do not require assigning GFM and grid-following roles to different converters. Moreover, this control enables primary frequency control and inertia support through HVDC links. A detailed stability and steady-state analysis results in conditions on the control gains such that i) the overall hybrid dc/ac system is stable, ii) asynchronous ac areas are quasi-synchronous, and iii) circulating power in cyclic topologies is avoided. Finally, a high-fidelity case study is used to illustrate and verify the analytical results.

In this work, an adaptive predictive control scheme for linear systems with unknown parameters and bounded additive disturbances is proposed. In contrast to related adaptive control approaches that robustly consider the parametric uncertainty, the proposed method handles all uncertainties stochastically by employing an online adaptive sampling-based approximation of chance constraints. The approach requires initial data in the form of a short input-output trajectory and distributional knowledge of the disturbances. This prior knowledge is used to construct an initial set of dataconsistent system parameters and a distribution that allows for sample generation. As new data stream in online, the set of consistent system parameters is adapted by exploiting set membership identification. Consequently, chance constraints are deterministically approximated using a probabilistic scaling approach by sampling from the set of system parameters. In combination with a robust constraint on the first predicted step, recursive feasibility of the proposed predictive controller and closed-loop constraint satisfaction are guaranteed. A numerical example demonstrates the efficacy of the proposed method.
