Adaptation is one of the necessary capabilities of any expert system. In a traditional expert system, the evolving environment is often treated in a static view. And the system accepts the change negatively. Our focus in this paper is to construct an adaptive CBR model which can learn continually through detecting feedbacks from the outside to partially release this. Knowledge base here is improved gradually so to enhance the system's adaptation of solving problems in dynamic environment.

The relaxed Burnett system, recently introduced in as a hydrodynamical approximation of the Boltzmann equation, is numerically solved. Due to the stiffness of this system and the severe CFL condition for large Mach numbers, a fully implicit Runge-Kutta method has been used. In order to reduce computing time, we apply a parallel stiff ODE solver based on 4-stage Radau IIA IRK. The ODE solver is combined with suitable first order upwind and second order MUSCL relaxation schemes for the spatial derivatives. Speedup results and comparisons to DSMC and Navier-Stokes approximations are reported for a 1D shock profile. © 2004 IOS Press and the authors.

Geometric constraint problem is equivalent to the problem of solving a set of nonlinear equations substantially. The constraint problem can be transformed to an optimization problem. PSO is an evolution computing method. It searches the solution space by creating a better next swarm. The new swarm is produced based on the new individuals. Memory particle swarm algorithm is a PSO algorithm that adds a memory influence. We introduce MPSO into geometric constraint solving. The purpose of the added memory feature is to maintain spread and therefore diversity by providing individual specific alternate target points to be used at times instead of the current local best position. The experiment indicates that the algorithm is effective.

This work presents a novel technique to identify functionally untestable transition faults in latch based designs with multiple clock domains, bringing to light unaddressed issues related to untestable fault identification in such design environments. We also introduce and provide a solution to a new variant of un-testability analysis wherein "architectural constraints'' are absorbed during the analysis. We give our tool the capability of handling transition faults resulting from defects of varying sizes, and evaluate our tool for various industrial circuits. The proposed algorithm is compared with a state-of-the-art sequential ATPG tool, and our method has shown much better performance both in the context of scan ATPG and functional test development. Results indicate that the proposed technique identifies considerably more untestable transition faults than those that can be deduced from the knowledge of untestable stuck-at faults. Additional insights from our results point to a greater need to eliminate untestable transition faults as compared to stuck-at faults, for more efficient test pattern generation and accurate coverage computation.

The accuracy of concrete strength inspection has a great influence on the safety evaluation of the building. In order to increase the accuracy, Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) was built up to evaluate concrete stmngth: It takes full advantage of the characteristics of the common concrete testing methods: drill and rebound, and the abilities of FNN including automatic learning, generation and fuzzy logic inference. The experiment shows that the max relative error of the predicted results is 1.12%, which is satisfied with the requirements of the engineering. The method effieieatly maps the complex non-linear relationship between the drill values and the rebound values, and provides a efficient way for the concrete strength inspection and evaluation.

This paper presents a recurrent neural network-based approach for modal parameters identification of structure-unknown systems. The proposed approach involves two steps. The first step is to build a recurrent neural network to map the complex nonlinear relation between the excitations and responses of the structure-unknown system by off-line learning. The second step is to propose a procedure to determine the modal parameters of the system from the trained neural networks. The dynamic characteristics of the structure are directly evaluated from the weighting matrices of the trained recurrent neural network. Furthermore, an illustrative example demonstrates the feasibility of using the proposed method to identify modal parameters of structure-unknown systems. The method proposed can be used to research on fault diagnosis of engineer structure.

We present a comparison between different warning strategies for onboard rumble strips in order to prevent road departure events. We compare time-to-lane-crossing (TLC) approach and some implementations of variable rumble strip (VRBS). The framework of this study is the AWAKE European research project and the PREDIT French research program. The value of such a system is demonstrated by some field experiments and its validation by medical and self-diagnoses.

Research on humanoid robots has produced various uses for their body properties in communication. In particular, mutual relationships of body movements between a robot and a human are considered to be important for smooth and natural communication, as they are in human-human communication. We have developed a semi-autonomous humanoid robot system that is capable of cooperative body movements with humans using environment-based sensors and switching communicative units. And we conducted an experiment using this robot system and verified the importance of cooperative behaviors in a route-guidance situation where a human gives directions to the robot. This result indicates that the cooperative body movements greatly enhance the emotional impressions of human in a route-guidance situation. We believe these results allow us to develop interactive humanoid robots that sociably communicate with humans.

Data-parallel programs are both growing in importance and increasing in diversity, resulting in specialized processors targeted at specific classes of these programs. This paper presents a classification scheme for data-parallel program attributes, and proposes micro-architectural mechanisms to support applications with diverse behavior for using a single reconfigurable architecture. We focus on the following four broad kinds of data-parallel programs - DSP/multimedia, scientific, networking, and real-time graphics workloads. While all of these programs exhibit high computational intensity, coarse-grain regular control behavior, and some regular memory access behavior, they show wide variance in the computation requirements, fine grain control behavior, and the frequency of other types of memory accesses. Based on this study of application attributes, this paper proposes a set of general micro-architectural mechanisms that enable a baseline architecture to be dynamically tailored to the demands of a particular application. These mechanisms provide efficient execution across a spectrum of data-parallel application and can be applied to diverse architectures ranging from vector cores to conventional superscalar cores. Our results using a baseline TRIPS processor show that the configurability of the architecture to the application demands provides harmonic mean performance improvement of 5%-55% over scalable yet less flexible architectures, and performs competitively against specialized architectures. © 2003 IEEE.
