This article describes the application of a quasi-frequency selective surface (FSS) reflector to a cross-dipole antenna for a 5G base station communication system. The quasi-FSS is composed of a square patch resonator with a resonance frequency of 1800 MHz and a perfect electric conductor (PEC) that reflects electromagnetic waves of all frequencies. Moreover, it can support and reflect two linear polarizations (±45°) of a dual-band cross-dipole antenna with dual operating frequencies of 700 MHz and 1800 MHz. At 700 MHz and 1800 MHz, the impedance characteristic of the antenna with reflector is approximately 26.83% and 34.86 % for Sll and S22 ≤-10 dB (±45°). The measured peak gain of the antenna is around 5.74 dBi at 775MHz and 11.88 dBi at 1850MHz. With a quasi-FSS reflector, the proposed antenna can also create a directional radiation pattern and facilitate the utilization of a 5G mobile communication base station.

Regenerative thinking is gaining momentum in HCI, shifting the focus from merely mitigating environmental harm to actively fostering cohabitation within more-than-human ecosystems. This shift challenges HCI researchers to develop new methodologies that engage with both material and cultural regeneration—harnessing the regenerative capacities of ecologies while preserving valuable knowledge systems. It also underscores the need for a fundamental onto-epistemological shift beyond anthropocentric notions of sustainability. To support HCI researchers in adopting regenerative approaches while addressing these challenges, this panel brings together a diverse group of design researchers working hands-on with materials ranging from biological to algorithmic. Through concrete examples and actionable insights, the panelists provide practical guidance on engaging with regenerative material ecologies. By interweaving multiple perspectives through a diffractive approach, the panel also explores the opportunities this emerging perspective offers for HCI, particularly at the intersection of sustainability, posthumanism, and decoloniality. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The purpose of this paper is to examine and contrast the Novel Circular Patch Antenna employing FR4 and RT Droid (CPA). Resonant frequency of 2.5 GHz in a static medium. To create the antenna, we use the HFSS and two different sample sets. Ten samples are taken from each antenna at 80% G-Power. Assume that the members of Group 1 are all CPAs that use the FR4 substrate. The Novel circular patch antenna (CPA) on RT roger's substrate is in the second group under consideration. This antenna operates at 2.5 GHz to measure reflectance at both ends. A VSWR of 2.1786 dB was measured at 2.4 GHz for a circular CPA designed for RT rogers, while the measured value for a CPA with FR4 was 0.7088 dB. The significance level in SPSS was 0.038 (p 0.05). The findings of this study show that RT rogers is approximately as effective as the FR4 substrate.

This paper presents a compact MIMO antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. It is created based on a thin film for an antenna substrate to minimize the antenna thickness, resulting in the antenna being utilized well on a curved surface. The film thickness is about 0.056 mm was used to design and cooperate with the rectangular slot antenna and rectangular stub. In addition, the antenna cover frequency range from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz with the S11 and S21 below −10 dB and −15 dB, respectively. The antenna will be fed by $50\ \Omega$ coplanar waveguide for a transmission line. Moreover, an Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) isn't more than 0.05 throughout the frequency range. The antenna radiation pattern is bidirectional all bands and the maximum gain is 4.6 dBi. The proposed antenna can be applied to the WBAN WPAN and WLAN, UWB communication systems as well.

Tracking urban mobility with current heterogeneous sensing capabilities has opened a wide research area on analytical and predictive data-driven models for improvements in transport operations and planning. These improvements are applicable for individual users, service providers and decision-makers. People, vehicles and goods move along the city according to the physical resources (roads, bike-lanes, side-walks...) and non-physical resources (such as scheduled public transportation services). We present this set of resources as the Urban Movement Space (UMS). We collect the main challenges and research foundations that geoinformatic approaches need to cope when tackling transportation resources and mobility data. The work presented in this paper proposes a conceptual modelling framework to represent the urban movement space, in order to match observed tracking data accordingly, and allow further analytical queries. Our approach combines an open free-space and network-based space to model the time-varying urban movement space, considering seasonality and uncertainty of multimodal travel options. © 2020 ACM.

Data centers are estimated to be responsible for 13% of energy consumed in world by 2030. Rapid increase in data storage and server performance requirements are the main causes of increase in energy consumption especially for hyperscale data centers such as in financial and banking industry. However small-scale data centers accounted for 70% of total consumption in 2020, which indicates the energy saving potential due to the old systems and un-specially designed buildings. Unlike standard buildings, data centers have high indoor heat gain, therefore high thermal conductivity in cold climates, low conductivity in hot climates is *** systems analysis, air flow analysis, capacity management and network software have been developed to achieve energy savings in data centers in literature. However, a software that calculates the energy demand by taking into account the building details, location and renewable energy systems installed in the data center is not found. In this study a software is developed to calculate final energy demand of datacenters by taking into account the location, building details, IT devices and renewable energy system. For the verification of developed software, hourly energy consumption data of a data center of a private bank is used. © 2021 IEEE.

Integrating artificial neural networks and neighborhood analysis for enhanced urban growth prediction depending on planned future development areas: A case study of Ar-Ramtha, Jordan

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing urban planning by enhancing the simulation of urban growth and land-use changes. Most AI models often fail to predict how proposed development areas will shape future expansion, leading to misaligned planning and urban sprawl. This study addresses these gaps by integrating master plans and spatial policies into an AI-driven urban growth model for Ar-Ramtha. A hybrid model combining artificial neural networks (ANN) and neighborhood analysis was developed to assess the influence of proposed development areas. Historical data (1990–2005) was used for training and validation, while 2005–2020 data was used for testing. Under-sampling techniques addressed data imbalance, and the PLADJ matrix measured urban growth patterns. Results indicate that incorporating neighborhood analysis and development areas improves model accuracy, achieving a validation accuracy of 92.9 %, an F1-micro of 91.0 %, and a Kappa of 82.1 %. Testing performance remained strong, with an F1-micro of 84.0 % and an accuracy of 91.2 %. Simulations suggest Ar-Ramtha is becoming more compact, with PLADJ values rising from 80.67 % in 2020 to 92.7 % by 2035. However, potential sprawl risks remain due to increased road paving and rising land prices. The study recommends defining development areas based on AI model predictions beyond current planning boundaries and adopting a ring road strategy to promote compact urban growth. These findings contribute to bridging gaps in AI-based urban modeling by improving the integration of planning policies, offering a robust tool for sustainable urban development. © 2025 The Authors

Designing a story is widely considered a crafty yet critical task that requires deep specific human knowledge in order to reach a minimum quality and originality. This includes designing at a high level different elements of the film;these high-level elements are called tropes when they become patterns. The present paper proposes and evaluates a methodology to automatically synthesize sets of tropes in a way that they maximize the potential rating of a film that conforms to them. We use machine learning to create a surrogate model that maps film ratings from tropes, trained with the data extracted and processed from huge film databases in Internet, and then we use a genetic algorithm that uses that surrogate model as evaluator to optimize the combination of tropes in a film. In order to evaluate the methodology, we analyse the nature of the tropes and their distributions in existing films, the performance of the models and the quality of the sets of tropes synthesized. The results of this proof of concept show that the methodology works and is able to build sets of tropes that maximize the rating and that these sets are genuine. The work has revealed that the methodology and tools developed are directly suitable for assisting in the plots generation as an authoring tool and, ultimately, for supporting the automatic generation of stories, for example, in massively populated videogames. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Modern digital technologies allow potentially to explore Cultural Heritage sites in immersive virtual environments. This is surely an advantage for the users that can better experiment and understand a specific site, also before a real visit. This specific approach has gained increasing attention during the extreme conditions of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. In this work, we present the processes that lead to the implementation of an immersive app for different kinds of low and high-cost devices, which have been attained in the context of the 3dLab-Sicilia project. 3dLab-Sicilia’s main objective is to sponsor the creation, development, and validation of a sustainable infrastructure that interconnects three main Sicilian centres specialized in augmented and virtual reality. The project gives great importance to the cultural heritage, as well as to the tourism-related areas. Despite the presentation of the case study of the Santa Maria La Vetere church, the process of the final app implementation guided by the general pipeline here presented is general and can be applied to other cultural heritage sites. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Wind speed (WS) has played a vital role in local urban and sub-urban weather, agriculture, and ecosystem. Several meteorological parameters are influencing WS such as relative humidity (at 2 m, %), surface pressure (kPa), maximum temperature (at 2 m, °C), minimum temperature (at 2 m, °C), average temperature (at 2 m, °C), and all sky insolation incident on a horizontal surface (kW-h/m2/day). The current research was conducted to predict WS at different locations at Vietnam using the feasibility of computer aid models (i.e., multivariate adaptive regression splines (MARS), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) and random forest generator (Ranger)). Pearson correlation (PC) was investigated to select the high significant predictors to predict the WS at 10 m high. All inputs (maximum number, 6) are chosen by the PC approach for PhuongNinh, DaNang, and HaNoi;and for minimum number of inputs i.e four, are selected for PhuongHung, CanTho, and SaPa city;that exhibit the relationship with WS, citywise. The sequence selection of input parameters differed in each station as per the PC analysis. Based on the statistical evaluation and graphical presentation, MARS model attained the best prediction results, followed by XGBoost and Ranger. MARS predictive model remains at the top performance among others based on 95% confidence interval. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
