The sequence alignment is one of the most important tasks in Bioinformatics, playing an important role in the sequences analysis. There are many strategies to perform sequence alignment, since those use deterministic algorithms, as dynamic programming, until those ones, which use heuristic algorithms, as Progressive, Ant Colony (ACO), Genetic Algorithms (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA), among others. In this work, we have implemented the objective function COFFEE in the MSA-GA tool, in substitution of Weighted Sum-of-Pairs (WSP), to improve the final results. In the tests, we were able to verify the approach using COFFEE function achieved better results in 81% of the lower similarity alignments when compared with WSP approach. Moreover, even in the tests with more similar sets, the approach using COFFEE was better in 43% of the times.

This paper considers using reset control to improve transient performance and overcome some fundamental limitations of linear systems. First, an auxiliary system is presented, then, based on which, a new reset control model is proposed, such that the non-overshoot performance specification can be met for any minimum phase relative degree one plants, the results imply some limitations of linear systems are overcome and clearly illustrate the advantages of reset control. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness.

We study a networked state estimation problem for a linear system with multiple sensors, each of which transmits its measurements to a central estimator via a lossy communication network for computing the minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) state estimate. Under a general Markov packet loss process, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of the estimator for any diagonalizable system in the sense that the mean of the state estimation error covariance matrix is uniformly bounded. For the second-order systems under an i.i.d. packet loss model, the stability condition is expressed as a simple inequality in terms of open-loop poles and the packet loss rate.

Tasks and solving problems in mechatronics require cognitive and operational knowledge and practical experience about systems design and analysis. Since mechatronics engineering is a fast-developing and practice-oriented field placing more emphasis practical and project-based education at universities is strongly encouraged by the industry. We consider an iterative learning control (ILC) approach to machining with industrial robots. The robot and the milling process are modeled using system identification methods with a data-driven approach. Two different model-based ILC algorithms are proposed and subsequently experimentally verified in a milling scenario. The difference between the two approaches is the required sensors for acquiring relevant input data for the algorithms. The results from the experiments indicate that the proposed methods have the potential of significantly decreasing the position errors in robotic machining, up to 85% in the considered milling scenario.
