This paper presents a detailed temperature model for a polymerization process and its performance on real plant data. The model is based on energy balance, and together with the already designed reaction model enables the design and test of possible control strategies for shortening the batch time and increasing the polymer production. The model was used to design a control algorithm that adjusts the initiator and monomer flow during the batch. The simulation results suggest that shortening of a batch cycle for about 1 hour could be expected, which means around 6% production increase.
The paper presents a joint state and unmeasured input estimation technique for a special class of nonlinear second order macroscopic traffic model. The freeway traffic system is transformed into a quasi and affine app...

GnRH neurons, as key elements of the reproductive neuroendocrine system, have important central regulating role in the dynamics of the hormonal cycle. A Hodgkin-Huxley type neural model is proposed in this paper, that takes into account up-to-date biological literature data related to ion channels. The proposed neuron model is highly nonlinear in parameters and the evaluation of the objective function is computationally expensive, therefore the asynchronous parallel pattern search (APPS) procedure has been used for identification. The model with high number of estimated parameters provides a qualitatively good fit of both voltage clamp and current clamp traces.

This paper is devoted to the construction of wavelet-type transforms with the purpose to represent functions belonging to the Hardy-space H 2 . The concept of the affine wavelet-transform defined in the space L 2 is extended to the Hardy space H 2 on the basis of the Blaschke group. A discrete hyperbolic wavelet scheme is also constructed that results in computable forms. The wavelet construction obtained possesses good localization properties with respect to functions in H 2 , hence forms an adequate tool for signal and system identification purposes.
This paper investigates signal and system representations in special rational orthogonal bases of the Hardy space H2. These bases are derived from the Blaschke-group associated to the hyperbolic group SH(n) of matrice...

In this paper we present a comparative study on the use on event-based strategies for sampling and control of the level of a single tank. In the study a time-based PI control strategy is compared and contrasted with five combinations of pure event-based control approaches. In the event-based control strategies, the triggering of an event is the indicator to send a sample from the sensor or to calculate a new control action. The experimental study tries to provide new experimental evidences about the saving in computation time and data transmission that simple event-based control strategies can provide when a error-free control of the process is not needed.
