A smart home with battery energy storage can take part in the demand response program. With proper energy management, consumers can purchase more energy at off-peak hours than at on-peak hours, which can reduce the electricity costs and help to balance the electricity demand and supply. However, it is hard to determine an optimal energy management strategy because of the uncertainty of the electricity consumption and the real-time electricity price. In this paper, a deep reinforcement learning based approach has been proposed to solve this residential energy management problem. The proposed approach does not require any knowledge about the uncertainty and can directly learn the optimal energy management strategy based on reinforcement learning. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

In this paper, we study the semi-global output containment control problem of a multi-agent system in the presence of actuator saturation over a directed network. The leader and follower agents are of different dynamics, and the follower agents are affected by disturbances generated by the leader agents through directed paths in the communication topology. The control objective of the output containment control is to drive the output trajectories of the follower agents to converge to the convex hull spanned by the outputs of the leader agents in the presence of disturbances. Low gain feedback containment protocols are constructed based on the output regulation approach and distributed observers. It is shown that semi-global output containment control can be achieved by the proposed protocols, if each follower agent is connected to at least one leader agent through a directed path in the communication topology. Simulation results verify the theoretical conclusions.

The problem of control object with the use of feedback loop is extremely relevant, because only this method provides for the accurate control. It happened that the theory of automatic control paid much attention to the methods of regulators design based on mathematical transformations, using a mathematical model of the object. It describes the transformation of an input signal into an output signal inside the object. The methods were imperfect, so one of the following simplification methods was the most frequently used: the mathematical model of the object was simplified, or the calculations were carried out with approximation, for example, the oscillations in the system were studied by the amplitude and phase of the first harmonic only. Therefore, the result of using such regulators in practice did not exactly correspond to the theory provisions. To get mathematical and experimental basis of system developer tool, a solution of the elementary sub-problems was required. Among them there are tasks of the control of an object of the first and second order. Today the situation has changed. There is a means of sufficiently accurate mathematical modeling of the behavior of the system consisting of the loop with an object and a regulator. There are software and mathematical means for regulator calculating by the method of numerical optimization. Now there is sufficient software for calculating the regulators of the object, having a rather complex mathematical model. However, this did not change the situation. A lot of articles are still published, in which it is suggested performing additional fine tuning to achieve the required parameters after calculating the regulator and its technical implementation. Quite a big number of articles is still being published; they consider the methods of the empirical tuning of regulators based on the parameters of the transient process with a given fixed gain coefficient. A Novel Forwarding Method for Full-Duplex Two-Way Relay Networks

An estimate-and-forward(EF) scheme for single-input single-output(SISO) and multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) full-duplex two-way relay networks is proposed and analyzed. The relay estimates the received signal from two terminal nodes by a minimum mean squared error(MMSE) estimation and forwards a scaled version of the MMSE estimate to the destination. The proposed EF outperforms conventional amplify-and-forward(AF) and decode-and-forward(DF) across all signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) region. Because its computational complexity is high for relays with a large number of antennas(large MIMO) and/or high order constellations, an approximate EF scheme, called list EF, are thus proposed to reduce the computational complexity. The proposed list EF computes a candidate list for the MMSE estimate by using a sphere decoder, and it approaches the performance of the exact EF relay at a negligible performance loss. The proposed forwarding approach also could be used to other relay networks, such as half-duplex, one-way or massive MIMO relay networks.

This paper seeks the optimization of soot-blowing operations for heat transfer surfaces in coal- fired power plant boiler. A preventive soot blowing strategy based on state of health prediction for heat transfer surface was proposed. The average state of health of heat transfer surface was forecasted as the threshold to draft preventive soot blowing strategy. According to the theory of renewal process, an optimization model with the system prediction interval and the threshold of preventive soot blowing operation as the optimization variables and minimize average energy losses as the target function was established. By using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), the optimal preventive cycle and soot-blowing threshold were obtained, and the long-run average cost rate was the lowest. The model is validated with experiment data of a 300MW coal-fired power plant boiler and the parameters of prediction model are obtained. The results can verify the feasibility of proposed strategy. It can be used as the guide for the optimization of soot blowing in coal-fired power plant to improve the energy conservation level.

In this paper we revisit the problem of global asymptotic stabilization of the double integrator system subject to output saturation. We first observe that the double integrator system cannot be asymptotically stabilized by linear static output feedback. We then establish that there exist linear dynamic output feedback laws that globally asymptotically stabilize the double integrator system subject to output saturation. The determination of the linear output feedback laws is presented in the form of an algorithm. Simulation results illustrate that the linear dynamic output feedback laws have the ability to achieve global asymptotic stabilization of the double integrator system subject to output saturation.

It is important to find rational values of time reserves to compensate for delays during train movement to ensure train schedule reliability. This study proposes to investigate the impact of different categories of trains and their time reserve on schedule reliability. The main purpose of the study is to develop a method for studying the extent of the impact of time reserve on train schedule reliability based on the epidemiological model. Mathematical train delay propagation at the section model has been developed on the basis of the Susceptible – Infected – Removed (SIR) epidemiological model of adaptation type (taking into account the effect of using different train categories. It is suggested to use a binary genetic algorithm to search for parameters of delay propagation rate in the SIR model. According to a specially developed data acquisition algorithm, empirical data on the propagation of train delays at the station were obtained. Experimental studies have been carried out to search for train delay propagation velocity coefficients in the SIR model. The train movement restoration results during a delay at the station are given to study the impact of the time reserve value on train schedule reliability, taking into account the speed recovery delay set in the SIR model. The simulation results confirm the developed mathematical model adequacy.
