Metasurfaces are engineered thin surfaces comprising two dimensional (2D) arrays of sub-wavelength spaced and sub-wavelength sized resonators. Metasurfaces can locally manipulate the amplitude, phase and polarization of light with high spatial resolution. In this study, we report numerical and experimental results of a vortex-beam-generating metasurface fabricated specifically for infrared (IR) and terahertz (THz) wavelengths. The designed metasurface consisted of a 2D array of dielectric cross-shaped resonators with spatially varying length, thereby providing desired spatially varying phase shift to the incident light. The metasurface was found to be insensitive to polarization of incident light. The dimensions of the cross-resonators were calculated using rigorous finite difference time domain (FDTD) analysis. The spectral scalability via physical scaling of meta resonators was demonstrated using two vortex generating optical elements operating at 8.8 μm (IR) and 0.78 THz (Terahertz). The vortex beam generated in the mid-IR spectral range was imaged using FTIR imaging miscroscope equipped with a focal plane array (FPA) detector. This design could be used for efficient wavefront shaping as well as various optical imaging applications in mid-IR spectral range, where polarization insensitivity is desired. This paper presented an improved fuzzy synthetic model based on combination weighting and a cloud model to optimize wind turbine maintenance strategy and improve operational reliability. First, a condition assessment framework was proposed by analyzing the monitored physical quantities of a working wind turbine. Based on the establishment of a state health evaluation index and health status classification of wind turbines, the weight of each index was determined with a combination weighting method while the membership degree of each state grade was determined with a membership cloud model. A comprehensive evaluation of the health status of the wind turbine was carried out using the method of stratified evaluation. The results showed that the proposed method was effective and feasible. The results also showed that the condition assessment that utilized the improved method predicted the change of operating conditions and more closely matched real operating conditions than the traditional fuzzy assessment method. © 2017-IOS Press and the authors. Low-order feedback-feedforward controller for dead-time processes with measurable disturbances

This paper presents simple tuning rules for low-order feedback and feedforward controllers based on an approximation of the filtered Smith predictor with closed-loop feedforward compensation. An analytical development is introduced to control stable first-order plus dead time processes affected by measurable disturbances that cannot be completely removed from the process output due to dead-time effects. Simulation results for the pH control of a tubular photobioreactor and the steam pressure control of an industrial boiler are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2016

An unconditionally stable finite difference discretization motivated by the well-known Crank-Nicolson method is used to develop an iterative learning control design for systems whose dynamics are described by a fourth-order partial differential equation. A discrete in time and space model of a deformable rectangular mirror is derived in this setting and forms the basi s for the new design, where a model for the actuator dynamics is also included. A numerical case study is given to demonstrate the properties of the new design.

This paper is concerned with the H ∞ filtering problem for a class of time-varying nonlinear delayed system under high-rate communication network and stochastic protocol (SP). The communication between the sensors and the state estimator is implemented via a shared high-rate communication network in which multiple transmissions are generated between two adjacent sampling instants of sensors. At each transmission instant, only one sensor is allowed to get access to the communication network in order to avoid data collisions and the SP is employed to determine which sensor obtains access to the network at a certain instant. The mapping technology is applied to characterize the randomly switching behavior of the data transmission resulting from the utilization of the SP. The aim of the problem addressed is to design an estimator such that the H ∞ disturbance attenuation level is guaranteed for the estimation error dynamics over a given finite horizon. Sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of the finite-horizon filter satisfying the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement, and the explicit expression of the time-varying filter gains is characterized by resorting toa set of recursive matrix inequalities. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed filter design scheme.

The method of obtaining the plan of experiments in multidimensional space is proposed. Our method is based on assumptions of uniform distribution of charged particles in infinite space. To receive the plan of experiments, the infinite multidimensional space is replaced with a hypercube whose surface models influence of infinite space. The software is developed and practical results, in two-dimensional space are acquired. There are no basic problems to carry out calculations in multidimensional space.

This paper studies the problem of global stabilization of multiple integrator systems using event-triggered bounded controls. The linear system is described by a chain of integrators of arbitrary length n. A switching event-triggered bounded control law is constructed. This control law switches among a sequence of n event-triggered control laws. A switching strategy is designed for the selection of an individual event-triggered control law and an event-triggering strategy is designed for updating the control value of each of these control laws. This switching event-triggered control law is shown to achieve global asymptotic stabilization. The absence of the Zeno behavior is also established. Simulation results are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

Distributed coordination algorithms (DCA) carry out information processing processes among a group of networked agents without centralized information fusion. Though it is well known that DCA characterized by an SIA (stochastic, indecomposable, aperiodic) matrix generate consensus asymptotically via synchronous iterations, the dynamics of DCA with asynchronous iterations have not been studied extensively, especially when viewed as stochastic processes. This paper aims to show that for any given irreducible stochastic matrix, even non-SIA, the corresponding DCA lead to consensus successfully via random asynchronous iterations under a wide range of conditions on the transition probability. Particularly, the transition probability is neither required to be independent and identically distributed, nor characterized by a Markov chain. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In order to solve the scheduling problems of Re-entrant Hybrid Flowshop (RHFS), this paper investigates the mathematical programming model of RHFS, and proposes the wolf pack based algorithm (WPA) as a global optimization method. Multi-Sticking Crape Masking procedure scheduling problems in painting workshop of a bus manufacturing enterprise are of typical features of RHFS. We regard it as an application objective of the proposed algorithm, applying WPA and multiple evolutionary algorithms to solve the problems. The results show that the algorithm can solve re-entrant scheduling problems of hybrid flowshop more effectively compared with other conventional methods.
