Edge Computing (EC) is a distributed network architecture offering computation and storage resources at the network edge, addressing cloud computing limitations by optimizing latency and enhancing data safety and privacy for real-time services. It also supports intelligent solutions for IoT-based smart healthcare systems through Deep Learning (DL). DL aids in resource allocation optimization and disease prediction. However, the surge in wearable device usage introduces challenges in user mobility and migration, leading to increased latency and service inconsistencies. To tackle this, we propose EdgeMob, an intelligent and context-aware scheme deployed as a federation of edge servers. EdgeMob utilizes Q-learning-based reinforcement learning for personalized service migration decisions based on user mobility and Quality of Service (QoS). We evaluate our system against existing solutions, considering parameters such as user-perceived latency, migration cost, and network bandwidth utilization. © 2024 IEEE.

Optimal Multi-Bitrate Video Caching and Processing in Edge Computing: A Stackelberg Game Approach

By caching and transcoding video files on edge servers, video edge caching (VEC) can alleviate network congestion and improve user experience. To achieve this, VEC needs to address resource allocation and pricing problems and develop caching and transcoding strategies. However, existing works have not effectively coordinated and resolved these issues. Towards this end, we propose a game-theoretic multi-bitrate video caching and processing method for VEC. Specifically, to address these interdependent issues concurrently, we first incorporate multidimensional strategies into the system model and formalize the profit maximization problems of the network service provider and multiple video providers (VPs) as a constrained multi-objective optimization problem. Second, we transform the problem into a Stackelberg game and identify a Nash equilibrium as the solution. To solve the game problem, we decompose the game process into two stages focusing on resource competition and price determination, respectively. Then, we address the problems of transcoding and caching strategies development, and resource allocation in parallel across varying resource price conditions. The transcoding strategy is determined based on the constraints imposed by delay, value, and the source video. For the caching strategy development and resource allocation, we transform them into two grouped knapsack problems and apply the "dominant strategy» from game theory to identify the "feasible strategy» of VPs. Finally, we determine the resource prices in a traversal manner. Theoretical analysis shows that our proposed method achieves the optimal solution. Experimental results show that our algorithm achieve a 6.04% increase in overall profit compared to the greedy strategy algorithm. © 2025 IEEE.

In modern air traffic management, generating synthetic flight trajectories has emerged as a promising solution for addressing data scarcity, protecting sensitive information, and supporting large-scale analyses. In this paper, we propose a novel method for trajectory synthesis by adapting the Time-Based Vector Quantized Variational Autoencoder (TimeVQVAE). Our approach leverages time-frequency domain processing, vector quantization, and transformer-based priors to capture both global and local dynamics in flight data. By discretizing the latent space and integrating transformer priors, the model learns long-range spatiotemporal dependencies and preserves coherence across entire flight paths. We evaluate the adapted TimeVQVAE using an extensive suite of quality, statistical, and distributional metrics, as well as a flyability assessment conducted in an open-source air traffic simulator. Results indicate that TimeVQVAE outperforms a temporal convolutional VAE baseline, generating synthetic trajectories that mirror real flight data in terms of spatial accuracy, temporal consistency, and statistical properties. Furthermore, the simulator-based assessment shows that most generated trajectories maintain operational feasibility, although occasional outliers underscore the potential need for additional domain-specific constraints. Overall, our findings underscore the importance of multi-scale representation learning for capturing complex flight behaviors and demonstrate the promise of TimeVQVAE in producing representative synthetic trajectories for downstream tasks such as model training, airspace design, and air traffic forecasting. © 2025 IEEE.

Cardinality estimation for property graph queries with gated learning approach on the graph database

With the increasing complexity of graph query processing tasks, it is difficult for users to obtain the accurate cardinality before or during the execution of query tasks. Accurate estimate query cardinality is crucial for property graph data model, which usually involves entities, multiple joins, and various types of properties (key-value pairs). While learning-based approaches have been used in query optimization, estimating the cardinality of property graph queries is still particularly challenging. In this paper, we first formally represent each property graph query and then divide the estimation process into three phases: query execution, training data generation, and model training. Secondly, we construct a data pool to deal the updating query workloads in the training data generation phase. Thirdly, we utilize the gate mechanism to develop a cardinality estimation framework based on deep learning neural networks for property graph queries in the Neo4j database, and we propose a hybrid loss function to optimize the training process. Finally, we adopt a method of pre-aggregating the underlying data to speed up query execution in the first phase. The result of the experiment on two real-world datasets shows that our optimized methods can effectively improve the estimation accuracy of the deep learning model, and our query estimator outperforms other deep learning models compared in terms of estimation accuracy. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Static relays are reliable, robust and fast compared to digital relays. However, they are bulky and hard to configure. The discovery of microprocessor-based relays overcame these limitations, although they are prone to cyber-attacks as they are digital computers. It is tough to detect malicious code and malware in digital computers;conversely, analog circuits are immune to these attacks. Before microprocessor-based relays, static relays were used in power systems protection;they are still considered reliable, robust, fast and immune to cyber threats as they didn't have any digital components. With the developments in analog technology, such as Field Programmable analog Array (FPAA), there is now an opportunity for analog relays to rebound with reduced size, ease of design and reconfigurability. This work proposes an FPAA-based new generation analog mho relay demonstrating a fully analog implementation of mho distance characteristics on FPAA. The line-ground (LG) and line-line (LL) elements are modelled in the AN231K04-QUAD4 kit and tested on the IEEE 9-Bus system. The results are promising. Relay shows dependability over the designed range of its operation. Besides, this work also proposes using FPAA-based static relays along with the existing digital relays to enhance the cyber security of the protection schemes. © 2025 The Institution of engineering & Technology.

We suggest using edge computing to install an intrusion detection system (IDS) at the network edge in order to address the problem of intrusion detection in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). This IDS functions as a proactive defence system designed specifically with WSNs in mind. Our method combines an arithmetic optimisation algorithm (AOA) with Wireshark and machine learning to create an edge intelligence framework for identifying denial-of-service (DoS) assaults in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). We use the wireshark for optimisation adjustment and a parallel strategy to promote communication between populations in order to increase model accuracy. Our model achieves 98.9% accuracy (ACC) through simulated studies utilising the IDS dataset in Matlab2018b. The effectiveness and practical significance of our suggested intrusion detection approach are highlighted by these experimental results. © 2024 IEEE.
