Crowd dynamics analysis and behavior recognition in surveillance videos based on deep learning

Video surveillance is widely adopted across various sectors for purposes such as law enforcement, COVID-19 isolation monitoring, and analyzing crowds for potential threats like flash mobs or violence. The vast amount of data generated daily from surveillance devices holds significant potential but requires effective analysis to extract value. Detecting anomalous crowd behavior, which can lead to chaos and casualties, is particularly challenging in video surveillance due to its labor-intensive nature and susceptibility to errors. To address these challenges, this research contributes in two key areas: first, by creating a diverse and representative video dataset that accurately reflects real-world crowd dynamics across eight different categories;second, by developing a reliable framework, ‘CRAB-NET,’ for automated behavior recognition. Extensive experimentation and evaluation, using Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory networks (ConvLSTM) and Long-Term Recurrent Convolutional Networks (LRCN), validated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in accurately categorizing behaviors observed in surveillance videos. The employed models were able to achieve the accuracy score of 99.46% for celebratory crowd, 99.98% for formal crowd and 96.69% for violent crowd. The demonstrated accuracy of 97.20% for comprehensive dataset achieved by the LRCN underscores its potential to revolutionize crowd behavior analysis. It ensures safer mass gatherings and more effective security interventions. Incorporating AI-powered crowd behavior recognition like ‘CRAB-NET’ into security measures not only safeguards public gatherings but also paves the way for proactive event management and predictive safety strategies. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Blockchain as a decentralized storage technology is widely used in many *** has extremely strict requirements for reliability because there are many potentially malicious ***,blockchain is a chain storage structure formed by interconnecting blocks1),which are stored by full replication method,where each node stores a replica of all blocks and the data consistency is maintained by the consensus *** decrease the storage overhead,previous approaches such as BFT-Store and Partition Chain store blocks via erasure ***,existing erasure coding based methods utilize static encoding schema to tolerant f malicious nodes,but in the typical cases,the number of malicious nodes is much smaller than f as described in previous *** redundant parities to tolerate excessive malicious nodes introduces unnecessary storage *** solve the above problem,we propose Dynamic-EC,which is a Dynamic Erasure Coding method in permissioned blockchain *** key idea of Dynamic-EC is to reduce the storage overhead by dynamically adjusting the total number of parities according to the risk level of the whole system,which is determined by the number of perceived malicious nodes,while ensuring the system *** demonstrate the effectiveness of Dynamic-EC,we conduct several experiments on an open source blockchain software *** results show that,compared to the state-of-the-art erasure coding methods,Dynamic-EC reduces the storage overhead by up to 42%,and decreases the average write latency of blocks by up to 25%,respectively.

Embeddings Between State and Action Based Probabilistic Logics

This article defines embeddings between state-based and action-based probabilistic logics which can be used to support probabilistic model checking. First, we slightly modify the model embeddings proposed in the literature to allow invisible computation steps and the preservation of forward and backward bisimulation relations. Next, we propose the syntax and semantics of an action-based Probabilistic Computation Tree Logic (APCTL) and an action-based PCTL∗(APCTL∗) interpreted over action-labeled discrete-time Markov chains (ADTMCs). We show that both these logics are strictly more expressive than the probabilistic variant of Hennessy-Milner logic (prHML). We define an embedding aldl which can be used to construct APCTL∗formulae from PCTL∗formulae and an embedding sldl from APCTL∗formulae to PCTL∗formulae. Similarly, we define the embeddings and from PCTL to APCTL and APCTL to PCTL, respectively. We also define the reward-based variant of APCTL (APRCTL) interpreted over action-based Markov Reward Models (AMRM), and accordingly modify the logical embeddings and which allows us to take into account the notion of rewards. Additionally, we also show that the idea of rewards can be used to reason about the bounded until operator in PCTL and APCTL. Finally, we prove that our logical embeddings combined with the model embeddings enable one to minimize, analyze, and verify probabilistic models in one domain using state-of-the-art tools and techniques developed for the other domain. In order to validate the efficacy of our theoretical framework, we apply it to two case studies using the probabilistic symbolic model checker (PRISM). © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Meta-heuristic optimization algorithms have become widely used due to their outstanding features, such as gradient-free mechanisms, high flexibility, and great potential for avoiding local optimal solutions. This research explored the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) to find the ideal configuration for a six-element Yagi–Uda antenna. The GWO algorithm adjusted the lengths of the antenna wires and the spacings between them. The goal was to maximize the antenna’s ability to transmit signals (throughput gain). Optimal antenna selection relies on various parameters, including gain, bandwidth, impedance matching, frequency, side-lobe levels, etc. The optimization of a six-element Yagi–Uda antenna presents a challenging engineering design problem due to its multimodal and nonlinear nature. Achieving optimal performance hinges on the intricate interplay between the lengths of the constituent elements and the spacing configurations. To this end, a multiobjective function was adopted to design this antenna. The performance of several meta-heuristic algorithms, including genetic algorithms, biogeography-based optimization, simulated annealing, and grey wolf optimizer, was compared. The GWO-based approach has performed better than its competitors. This optimized antenna design based on GWO reported a gain of 14.21 decibel. Therefore, the GWO-based method optimizes antennas that can be further investigated for other antenna design problems. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

In today's digital era, the use of data is becoming more day by day. Data is serving as a main source for all the applications we rely on. As the volume of data rapidly increases, the need for security also increases in the same phase. This brings the need for securing the data in a more effective manner. The need to protect sensitive data is underscored by the increasing intricacy of cyberattacks and the expansion of virtual commerce. It is imperative to rely on several legal and regulatory requirements for the need for data security. The failure to do so may result in severe penalties. In order to maintain trust in digital interactions, data security during transmission and storage is becoming more important as the world gets smaller. If the data is not secured in an effective manner, the growth of the companies and several other technologies may collapse and result in higher threats to the world. Both firms and governments are required to preserve intellectual property and information related to national security. The availability, confidentiality, and integrity of data are critical for sustaining innovation, trust, and business continuity. This project focusses on the two-level authentication of the system where the users are allowed to store the sensitive data. The first level authentication is provided using OAuth where it is a single sign on mechanism which is advantageous to the users to access it easily. The second level authentication is provided using the encryption technique where the Advanced Encryption Standard is used along with the creative usage of user-generated patterns as a hidden layer in the encryption process. Here a symmetric key is used for the encryption to make it more secure. The two-level authentication brings high level security for the stored data. © 2024 IEEE.

Numerous obstacles endanger the livelihoods of smallholder farmers and global food security. Crop output losses due to plant diseases alone are estimated to be between 15% to 25% every year. However, farmers' capacity to recognize and treat illnesses in a timely manner is hampered by things like a lack of agronomic expertise, limited access to actionable insights, and information gaps. The work proposes a comprehensive end-to-end web application that uses machine learning models to help farmers with configurable expert advice, smart farm management, and automatic disease detection. Thus, enabling farmers to identify the infection using their smart phones and obtain crop - fertilizer recommendations for the crops to be treated in the farmer's area based on historical data analysis of yield-influencing elements such as geography, weather, and soil. The proposed system will employ Generative Artificial Intelligence, such as ChatGPT's natural language processing and generation capabilities, to engage in conversational interactions with farmers. The work achieves close to 95% accuracy after utilizing 30 epochs in the area of disease detection and 97% accurate models are achieved for fertilizer outputs. These features along with it's high accuracy can assist farmers in making informed decisions, utilising the data obtained to reduce crop output losses. © 2024 IEEE.
