For scientists, it is advantageous to use a high level of abstraction for programming their simulations, so that they can focus on the problem at hand instead of struggling with low-level details. However, current HPC clusters with multiple GPUs per node only offer explicit communication to and from the GPUs, require manual work to keep the data consistent, and often need explicit kernel programming. Moreover, known GPU programming frameworks are limited to a single GPU or a single machine and also rarely support objects. Our system removes the above restrictions. With a slight but necessary change in Java's semantics, we achieve automatic distribution and efficient use of objects and arrays of objects on multiple GPUs in a cluster. On benchmarks that distribute arrays of objects over five machines with 10 GPUs, we achieve speedups of up to 4.9 compared to one node.

Rapid single flux quantum (RSFQ) logic is a digital circuit technology that in recent years has presented itself as an alternative to semiconductors in the application of ultra high speed, very low power applications. The optimal timing of digital circuits operating at hundreds of GHz is still a complex problem for both RSFQ and semiconductor technologies. The fact that most RSFQ gates require a clock signal to function makes this even more complex. Various RSFQ timing schemes have been adapted from semiconductor design methodologies, and some have been designed specifically for RSFQ. Currently, synchronous clocking schemes outperform other schemes, but with the scale of RSFQ circuits ever increasing, the proper use of timing schemes are becoming more crucial. This paper describes a new asynchronous self-timing scheme where the details of clock distribution and clocking are built into the logic gates. The required configuration management and the necessary control of the Surface Ship Combat System elements demand that they be considered as integrated and tested in accordance with an integrated test plan utilizing an integrated test organization. The sometimes used approach of implementing a combat system test program based upon the individual combat system elements being independent, has proven to be less than satisfactory. Then is no question that some of the early testing at the unit, subsystem, and subprogram levels can be planned and conducted independent of a specific “end-item” combat System. This paper addresses the planning and implementing of combat system test with the emphases being upon the integrated phase of test and primarily the lead ship of a class. Information is presented to facilitate planning and implementing a combat system test program including use of shore facilities and integrating these activities with shipboard activities; when to form the test organization and what types of expertise are required; what are the key technical management tools; the proofing of test documentation; the need for detailed “step-by-step” procedures and traceability of the specified requirements; how to assist Ships Force; planning and stat using the conduct of the tests; integrating computer program and special testing into the test program; and the significance of early decisions on administrative and contractual arrangements.
