Chili is among top grown crops in Malaysia. Nevertheless, chili plant growth monitoring in Malaysia is still performed manually by human labor, which consumed lots of time, energy and the plant growth can only be monitored at site. Hence, this paper discussed the potential of deep learning algorithm in classifying chili plant growth images from a small dataset. The experiment is performed on 256 chili plant images that under various conditions, where the images were captured using a 12-megapixel and f/1.8 aperture camera. Experimented using ResNet-101 and ResNet-50 of Mask R-CNN models with 75% of the dataset for training and 25% for testing, the results showed that both models were able to detect the correct age of chili plants with accuracy of 96% for Mask R-CNN ResNe-50 which is lower than Mask R-CNN ResNe-101 by 1%. © 2020 IEEE

This paper present a novel performance enhancement for combined Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) scheme using SDMA grouping on top of code and spatial signatures. This paper is divided into two parts. In the first part, the system performance of combined CDMA- SDMA scheme is evaluated under Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel for a single sectored cell. A fixed number of available codes L kept in a central pool can be utilized by K users, where, K>L. The same code can be assigned to a group of users according to their Angle of Arrival (which is known as SDMA group). Here, the analytical model of Bit Error Rate (BER) for any arbitrary number of users has been derived and evaluated. In the second part of this paper, a simple code assignment algorithm is proposed to assign a already used code to a new user by which, the orthogonality between users can be maximized. The results show that the system capacity is noticeably improved with the combined system compared to the pure CDMA system. Further enhancement can be obtained when SDMA grouping is considered with orthogonal code assignment to users those belongs to different SDMA groups. Finally, the code assignment algorithm shows that high number of users can be accommodated by a fixed small number of codes.

The peer-reviewed articles and textual data are main source of data in biology. Text mining is solution to extract information from textual data sources that are usually in bulky quantities, messy and disorganized. Dealing with this situation needs to deploy innovative methods and techniques. In this paper, we identify the current heavily used methods for biomedical text mining, their capabilities and developments, some proposed solution and how to evaluate performance. Biomedical specific challenges in text mining context have been studied with respect to proposed answers and then main future trends based on current needs and requirements have been discussed. © 2012 IEEE.

Mobility support for Internet devices is very important, since mobile computing is getting more widespread. Since these devices are wireless and therefore mobile, they will derive great benefit form Mobile IPv6. Mobile IPv6 was designed to be a natural outgrowth of Mobile IPv4, just as IPv6 itself was designed to be a natural outgrowth of IPv4. A wireless test-bed was setup to see the performance of the handover. The wireless test-bed consists of hardware, software and network analyzes tools to monitor the handover operation. The hardware consists of a multicast router, 2 access point, home agent, mobile node. We analyzed packet loss, packet delay and handover delay in Mobile IPv6 wireless test-bed. Finally, it is concluded the average packet delay is 0.7s, the handover delay for the first handover (macro-mobility) is 4.4s (44 packet loss) and 4.2s (42 packet loss) during the second handover (micro-mobility). The behavior and performance of Mobile IPv6 scheme can be seen. © 2005 IEEE.

Effectiveness of server load estimation by using request file size for web server clusters

There have been proposed several dynamic load-balancing methods for web server clusters. In order to realize an effective load-balancing, they have required an almost real-time server load information which could be obtained from an observation of client-server interactions or a frequent polling from the load-balancer (dispatcher) to each server. However the observation provides an indirect server load information and the polling interval produces a time-lag. To overcome that problem, this paper proposes a load-balancing method based on a server load estimation. Under an employment of our method, the load-balancer selects an estimated least-loaded server, and then assigns the arriving request to that server. The estimation is based on a fact that the file transfer delay is proportional to the file size. The fact makes it possible to estimate each server load from the last request assigned time and the file size. From a performance comparison with the previously proposed methods, our method can realize an effective load balancing for web server clusters. © 2008 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

This paper describes an application of a vision system based on the use of both an omnidirectional vision sensor and a standard CCD camera. Such a hybrid sensor permits implementation of peripheral/foveal vision strategies, that can be very useful for navigation tasks. This paper focuses particularly on the use of the device as a stereo vision system to locate obstacles in a semi-structured environment through a perspective removal algorithm. © 2002 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

A fully differential, high gain opamp to be used in a low-voltage low-power high speed pipeline ADC in a 0.18 mu m CMOS process is designed. The opamp architecture is based on folded cascode and "double differential amplifier" technique. This design operates of a 1.8V power supply, achieving a differential output swing of +/-1.65V, a DC gain of > 95 dB with a unity gain at 312MHz and a phase margin of 56 degrees and 0.5mW power dissipation. The opamp can be used to design high-speed ADCs, for local wireless communications. The minimized power dissipation opamp could be used in high resolution, high speed pipelined analog to digital converters, which are needed in applications requiring both high data rate and high speed, such as wireless LANs.

Cooperative communications have been recommended to exploit the inherent spatial diversity gains in multiuser wireless systems without the need of multiple transceivers at each node. This is achieved when wireless nodes help to each other to send multiple independent transmission paths to the destination. The advantage of cooperation can be exploited significantly by allocating the power of the system optimally. Thus, in this paper we first derive the approximate symbol error rate (SER) for multi-node cooperative networks employing decode-and-forward (DF) protocol with a maximum ratio combining (MRC) at the receiving terminals in Racian fading channels. Using the approximated SER expression, optimal power allocation (OPA) scheme under different line-of-sight (LOS) scenarios is investigated. Numerical and simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance improvement due to OPA of the cooperative networks. © 2012 IEEE.

Modern days, a robot can be designed based on human needs. In particular, the line tracking robot is a classic introductory robot design and needs minimal amount of material and cost. The aim of this project is to construct a robot that has capability to follow the white line placed on a horizontal smooth surface lighted by LED and the low cost light dependant resistor as the sensor. Rigorous analysis has been applied to determine the optimal configuration for the sensor on the mobile robot. Our findings show that angle of LDR of 30°, the distance between LDR and LED of 2.5cm and height of 2cm is the best configuration. The line tracking robot will detect the light intensity that is rebounded from the white color path. © 2011 IEEE.

There has been an intensive research on a good MAC protocol design for wireless sensor networks with stationary nodes in which they all aim at making some wise trade offs between the network performance parameters and energy efficiency as the main design principle in WSN. But almost none of these MAC protocols, except a few, have addressed mobility in their structure which poses many new challenges to the MAC concept in wireless sensor networks. This paper collaborates on a little enhancement on MS-MAC, a mobility adaptive MAC protocol, in WSN. The MS-MAC protocol handles mobility by proactively increasing the frequency of the Sync period inside the active zone. However this increase is based on a static approach which forms the active zone with a constant value of R and appears to be problematic when the border node becomes mobile as well. In this paper we aim at optimizing the value of R by dynamically increasing or decreasing it according to the distance the border node takes from the border region. We expect that this dynamic approach increases the energy efficiency by preventing the nodes inside the virtual clusters going into the active zone unnecessarily but yet at the cost of an increased latency. © 2008 IEEE.
