The human brain choroid plexus (ChP) is a highly organized secretory tissue with a complex vascular system and epithelial layers in the ventricles of the brain. The ChP is the body’s principal source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and also functions as a barrier separating the blood from CSF, where the movement of CSF through the body is pulsatile in nature. It has been challenging to recreate the specialized architecture and dynamics of the ChP with a physiologically relevant microenvironment. Here, we recapitulated the ChP structure by developing a microfluidic chip with established design rules and CSF dynamics. Human ChP cells were cultured in the device with an engineered brain-specific extracellular matrix (ECM). The drug screening capabilities of our human ChP-on-a-chip were observed through physiologically relevant drug responses from breast cancer cells spread in the ChP. ChP immune response was also recapitulated in this device shown through the motility and cytotoxic effects of macrophages, the most prevalent immune cells in the ChP. Our human ChP-on-a-chip can facilitate understanding of ChP pathophysiology and aid in therapeutics development to treat cancers metastasized into choroid plexus. © 2023, The Authors. One of the most difficult jobs in remote sensing is dealing with traffic bottlenecks at airports. This fact has been confirmed by several studies attempting to resolve this issue. Among a wide range of approaches employed, the most successful methods have been based on airplane object recognition using satellite images as datasets for deep learning models. Airplane object identification is not a viable method for resolving traffic congestion. There are several types of airplanes at the airport, each with its own set of requirements and specifications. Utilising satellite pictures will require the use of complex equipment, which is a financial burden. In this work, a universal, low-cost and efficient solution for airport traffic congestion is proposed. Drone-captured aerial pictures are used to train and assess a Mask Region Convolution Neural Network model. This model can detect the presence of any aircraft in a photograph and pinpoint its location. It also includes mask estimations to properly identify each detected airplane type based on the estimated surface area and cabin length, which are crucial variables in distinguishing planes. The study is conducted using Microsoft's Common Object in Context (COCO) metrics, average accuracies and a confusion matrix, all of which demonstrate the approach's potential in providing valuable aid for dealing with traffic congestion at airports. This work presents experimental results of Rabi antenna characteristics using the coupled line microstrip *** was constructed by a modified coupled line microstrip four-port network,which is known as an add-drop *** driven AC input enters the device via an input port using the suitable frequency and coupled line microstrip ring *** multilevel system is generated by a wave-particle aspect before the two-level system is *** the resonance,the transitions of the states induce the energy called whispering gallery mode(WGM)at the circuit center,which is the squeezed *** generated electron oscillation within the WGM envelope oscillated by the frequency is known as the Rabi *** the successive filtering with continuous AC input via the selected port,the electron cloud warp speed can be generated and achieved inside the two-level *** constructed microstrip ring radius is 25 mm,and the experimental results of the Rabi antenna characteristics are in good agreement with the simulation *** obtained resonant antenna oscillation frequency is 2.103 *** electron cloud warp speed of 1.100c and time dilation of 0.006μs are obtained.

Real-time acquisition of human pulse signals in daily life is clinically important for cardiovascular disease monitoring and ***,we propose a smart photonic wristband for pulse signal monitoring based on speckle pattern analysis with a polymer optical fiber(POF)integrated into a sports *** different speckle pattern processing algorithms and POFs with different core diameters were *** results indicated that the smart photonic wristband had a high signal-to-noise ratio and low latency,with the measurement error controlled at approximately 3.7%.This optimized pulse signal could be used for further medical diagnosis and was capable of objectively monitoring subtle pulse signal changes,such as the pulse waveform at different positions of Cunkou and pulse waveforms before and after *** the assistance of artificial intelligence(AI),functions such as gesture recognition have been realized through the established prediction model by processing pulse signals,in which the recognition accuracy reaches 95%.Our AI-assisted smart photonic wristband has potential applications for clinical treatment of cardiovascular diseases and home monitoring,paving the way for medical Internet of Things-enabled smart systems.

Preservation of executive function, like inhibition, closely links to the quality of life in senior adults. Although neuroimaging literature has shown enhanced inhibitory function followed by aerobic exercise, current evidence implies inconsistent neuroplasticity patterns along different time durations of exercise. Hence, we conducted a 12-week exercise intervention on 12 young and 14 senior volunteers and repeatedly measured the inhibitory functionality of distinct aspects (facilitation and interference effects) using the numerical Stroop task and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Results showcased improved accuracy and reduced reaction times (RT) after 12-week exercise, attributed to frontoparietal and default mode network effects. In young adults, the first phase (0 to six weeks) exercise increased the activation of the right superior medial frontal gyrus, associated with reduced RT in interference, but in the second intervention phase (six to twelve weeks), the decreased activation of the left superior medial frontal gyrus positively correlated with reduced RT in facilitation. In senior adults, the first six-week intervention led to reduced activations of the inferior frontal gyrus, inferior parietal gyrus, and default mode network regions, associated with the reduced RT in interference. Still, in the second intervention phase, only the visual area exhibited increased activity, associated with reduced RT in interference. Except for the distinctive brain plasticity between the two phases of exercise intervention, the between-group comparison also presented that the old group gained more cognitive benefits within the first six weeks of exercise intervention;however, the cognitive improvements in the young group occurred after six weeks of intervention. Limited by the sample size, these preliminary findings corroborated the benefits of aerobic exercise on the inhibitory functions, implying an age × exercise interaction on the brain plasticity for both facilita

Refereeing in sports is about fairness. The referee's job is to balance what the player with the ball thinks is fair with what the player trying to take the ball thinks is fair. Referees are judges on those two opposite opinions. Football (soccer) has massive global appeal and fan interest. Some football championships now use Video Assistant Referees (VAR) to help the referees make correct decisions. This study reviews the literature on VAR in football using the Methodi Ordinatio. Methodi Ordinatio is a methodology used to select and rank relevant scientific papers combining the impact factor, number of citations, and year of publication. We present a case study about the distance the VAR officials cover in the main Brazilian football championship (Brazilian Serie A). This study adopts the p-medians method to analyse the impact of opening VAR operation rooms in the distance covered by the professionals travelling to officiate matches. The locations of VAR operation rooms were obtained, and applying these locations in the first ten rounds of the Brazilian Serie A season 2021 would possibly reduce about 70% of the distance covered by the VAR officials travelling compared to the total distance performed. © 2023 The Author(s)

The Mekong River Basin (MRB) is one of the highest biodiversity areas in the world and is the vital source of livelihoods for more than 60 millions of people over six countries in Southeast Asia. However, it is suffering from a severe sediment starvation problem caused by climate change and human activities, particularly dam constructions. Understanding long-term sediment changes thus plays a crucial role for management and contingency plans. Current sediment concentration data in the MRB are extremely sporadic, making it a non-trivial task to analyze them. This paper focuses on the sediment reconstruction to provide long-term reliable suspended sediment concentration (SSC) data using Machine Learning (ML) perspectives. In particular, a novel semi-supervised ML model, which can effectively deal with data sparsity, is introduced to predict/reconstruct missing sediment data. The key idea of this approach is to exploit abundant available hydroclimate data to reduce training overfitting rather than solely relying on sediment concentration data, thus enhancing the accuracy of the employed ML models. Extensive experiments on data obtained from 1979 to 2019 at the three main stations (i.e., Chiang Saen, Nong Khai, and Mukdahan) are conducted to demonstrate the performances of the proposed method compared to other state-of-the-art supervised techniques and traditional simulation methods commonly used in previous sediment forecasting/reconstruction studies. To the best of our knowledge, this approach is the first semi-supervised method to reconstruct sediment data in the field. Though this study focuses on the MRB, sediment sparsity is a very common problem in other river systems worldwide. Thus, this method can be widely applied for them for more effective sediment reconstruction/prediction in general. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a novel algorithm for reachability analysis of nonlinear discrete-time systems. The proposed method combines constrained zonotopes (CZs) with polyhedral relaxations of factorable representations of nonlinear functions to propagate CZs through nonlinear functions, which is normally done using conservative linearization techniques. The new propagation method provides better approximations than those resulting from linearization procedures, leading to significant improvements in the computation of reachable sets in comparison to other CZ methods from the literature. Regioisomeric effects regulating the physicochemical properties of complex copolymers in thin films

We demonstrate that minimal alterations to the chemical structure of a hydroxystyrene (HOST)-containing terpolymer lead to significant changes in its physicochemical properties, which in turn govern photolithographic pattern formation in chemical amplification mechanism. While the structures of the three repeating units, their compositions, and the molecular weight characteristics of the terpolymers were controlled to be similar, the location of the phenolic OH groups was adjusted by copolymerizing o -, m -, and p -acetoxystyrene, subsequently transformed into o -, m -, and p -HOST through deacetylation. In the studies to examine the physicochemical properties of the copolymers, the copolymer with p -HOST showed dissolution rate in n -butyl acetate ( n BA) of ≈ 15 nm/s, which was lower than that of copolymer with m -HOST (≈ 18 nm/s) and o -HOST (≈ 27 nm/s), further showing high linear correlation with the Hansen space distance between the copolymers and n BA. Moreover, the acid diffusions in the thin film, which plays a significant role in acid-catalyzed deprotection of the copolymers to solubility modulation, was affected by the location of the phenolic OH: the fastest and slowest acid diffusions were observed in the copolymers of p -HOST and o -HOST, respectively. The regioisomerism further affects the photolithographic performance collectively: (i) in contrast curve, light energy required to change the solubility was in order of p -HOST < m -HOST < o -HOST, and (ii) the height of the formed pattern was in order of p -HOST > m -HOST > o -HOST, highlighting the significance of chemical structure design and the fundamental understanding of structure–property relationships.
