Social exergames provide immersive experiences of social interaction via online multiplayer games, ranging from simple group exercises (e.g., virtual cycling/rowing) to more structured multiplayer games (e.g., cooperative boat racing). In exergame design, interpersonal synchrony plays an important role as it enhances social rapport and prosocial behavior. In this paper, we build ExerSync platform that supports various assistive mechanisms for facilitating interpersonal synchrony even with heterogeneous exercise modalities. We consider a rhythm of body movements in repetitive aerobic exercises and explore the design space of incorporating rhythm into exergames. We build a prototype system and comparatively evaluate the effectiveness of various assistive mechanisms. The experiment results show that rhythm significantly lowers the perceived workloads and provides better competence and engagement, but the accuracy of interpersonal synchrony is not dependent on the use of rhythm. Despite the great success of spoken language understanding (SLU) in high-resource languages, it remains challenging in low-resource languages mainly due to the lack of labeled training data. The recent multilingual code-switching approach achieves better alignments of model representations across languages by constructing a mixed-language context in zero-shot cross-lingual SLU. However, current code-switching methods are limited to implicit alignment and disregard the inherent semantic structure in SLU, i.e., the hierarchical inclusion of utterances, slots, and words. In this paper, we propose to model the utterance-slot-word structure by a multi-level contrastive learning framework at the utterance, slot, and word levels to facilitate explicit alignment. Novel code-switching schemes are introduced to generate hard negative examples for our contrastive learning framework. Furthermore, we develop a label-aware joint model leveraging label semantics to enhance the implicit alignment and feed to contrastive learning. Our experimental results show that our proposed methods significantly improve the performance compared with the strong baselines on two zero-shot cross-lingual SLU benchmark datasets. © 2022 Association for Computational Linguistics.

This study applies intelligent analytical methods to analyze temperature anomaly events during the past seven centuries of countries in the Southeast Asia including Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Cambodia. The temperature reconstruction during the years 1300 to 1999 were used as data source for anomaly analysis. In the analytical process, correlation analysis was applied to initially investigate the temperature variability concordance among the Southeast Asian countries. The results are that temperature variability patterns in Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia are moderately correlated to each other. On the contrary, the temperature variation patterns of Malaysia do not correlate to other countries in the same region. The further in-depth analysis focuses on the temperature anomaly of Thailand that shows high variability from the 14th to 16th centuries. Several machine learning algorithms had been applied to estimate the temperature anomaly of Thailand based on the anomaly events among the neighbors. The learned models reveal that Myanmar temperature anomaly most associate to the Thailand’s temperature variation. The performance of each model had been assessed and the results reveal that the chi-squared automatic interaction detection, or CHAID, is the best one with 0.624 correlation coefficient and relative error around 0.611. Forest fire is critical environmental issue that can cause severe damage. Fast detection and accurate estimation of forest fire burned area can help firefighters to effectively control damage. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to apply state of the art data modeling method to estimate the area of forest fire burning using support vector machine (SVM) algorithm as a tool for area approximation. The dataset is real forest fires data from the Montesinho natural park in the northeast region of Portugal. The original dataset comprises of 517 records with 13 attributes. We randomly sample the data 10 times to obtain 10 data-subsets for building estimation models using two kinds of SVM kernel: radial basis function and polynomial function. The obtained models are compared against other proposed techniques to assess performances based on the two measurement metrics: mean absolute error (MAE) and root mean square error (RMSE). The experimental results show that our SVM predictor using polynomial kernel function can precisely estimate forest fire damage area with the MAE and RMSE as low as 6.48 and 7.65, respectively. This article analyzes the completion time of a job running on a virtualized server subject to software aging and rejuvenation in a virtual machine monitor (VMM). A job running on the server may be interrupted by virtual machine (VM) failure, VMM failure or VMM rejuvenation. The job interruption is categorized as either preemptive-repeat (prt), in which case the interrupted job needs to restart from the beginning, or preemptive-resume (prs), in which case the job resumes execution from the point of interruption. Using a semi-Markov process (SMP) to model the server behavior, the steady-state server availability is computed and the theory developed in Kulkarni et al. [1987] is used to obtain the Laplace-Stieltjes transform (LST) of the job completion time. In the numerical experiments, we introduce four types of aging behavior of VMM. The effectiveness of VMM rejuvenation on job completion time is discussed in association with the type of interruption it causes and the VMM aging type. With our parameter settings, VMM rejuvenation with prs job interruption improves the performance of job execution regardless of the aging type, with performance degradation is taken into account. © 2014 ACM 1550-4832/2014/01-ART10 $15.00.

Online third party marketplaces link buyers and sellers by providing a neutral platform for exchange. However, this requires buyers to assess the quality of goods without being able to handle or sample them. Recent research has proposed extending the warranting principle, an emerging theory of online interpersonal impression formation, to the judgements consumer make about products online. The warranting principle holds that information that is more difficult to manufacture or manipulate, such as an individualized photo of an auction item, should be more informative to a consumers judgement of the product than information which is easy to falsify or manipulate. While this theoretical extension assumes that all online goods are capable of being assessed in the same way, some goods (i.e. experience goods) are more difficult to assess in online marketplaces because they must be experienced before their true quality and characteristics can be known. The current study examines 2,401 completed auctions from eBay revealing that the relationship between warranting cues and price discounts is moderated by the type of good being sold. The increasing availability of massive mobile phone call data records (CDR) has opened new opportunities for analyzing and understanding real-life social phenomena and human dynamics. In order to better interpret this enormous amount of data it is useful to contextualize them with information about the circumstances under which they has been generated. Nowadays, linked open data initiative provide access to a huge amount of geo-time referenced knowledge about territory and events that happen in the territory. These informations can be used to characterize the aforementioned context. The aim of this Ph.D is to investigate on the intercorrelations between CDR, contexts, and human behaviors. The ultimate goal is to build a stochastic model, that can be used to predict semantic (qualitative) behavioral patterns on the basis of CDR traffic and context and identify and explain anomalous situations on the basis of deviations from standard CDR patterns.

An integration of satellites and terrestrial networks is crucial for enhancing performance of next generation communication systems. However, the networks are hindered by the long-distance path loss and security risks in dense urban environments. In this work, we propose a satellite-terrestrial covert communication system assisted by the aerial active simultaneous transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surface (AASTAR-RIS) to improve the channel capacity while ensuring the transmission covertness. Specifically, we first derive the minimal detection error probability (DEP) under the worst condition that the Warden has perfect channel state information (CSI). Then, we formulate an AASTAR-RIS-assisted satellite-terrestrial covert communication optimization problem (ASCCOP) to maximize the sum of the fair channel capacity for all ground users while meeting the strict covert constraint, by jointly optimizing the trajectory and active beamforming of the AASTAR-RIS. Due to the challenges posed by the complex and high-dimensional state-action spaces as well as the need for efficient exploration in dynamic environments, we propose a generative deterministic policy gradient (GDPG) algorithm, which is a generative deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method to solve the ASCCOP. Concretely, the generative diffusion model (GDM) is utilized as the policy representation of the algorithm to enhance the exploration process by generating diverse and high-quality samples through a series of denoising steps. Moreover, we incorporate an action gradient mechanism to accomplish the policy improvement of the algorithm, which refines the better state-action pairs through the gradient ascent. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach significantly outperforms important benchmarks, and also validate the performance and practicality under different algorithm parameters and environment settings. Cloud technology is a business strategy that aims to provide the necessary material to customers depending on their needs. Individuals and cloud businesses alike have embraced the cloud storage service, which has become the most widely used service.
