Directional and stream data are common in many research fields. Wind speed and direction are the most important variables for effective wind energy utilization. It is also well known, that wind significantly inf.uences the current-carrying capacity of overhead power transmission lines. This shows the importance of knowing the annual wind direction distribution for specific locations, e.g. where wind farms or power transmission lines are situated. In this paper, a new method of wind direction distribution determination is presented. The statistical model is composed of a finite mixture of circular von Mises distributions. Parameters of the model are estimated using the heuristic search method of genetic algorithms. The quality of computed distribution is evaluated by Pearson's chi-squared test. The entire proposed procedure is tested using a case study. The results show that the model composed of a finite mixture of von Mises distribution corresponds to the input data with high significance level.

One sample is a HBT structure, the other one is a p-i-n photodiode structure. The f-divergence is a general class of divergences which includes various divergences used in representing the difference between two probability densities. It was introduced by Csiszar. Lin, on the other hand, in 1991 introduced a divergence based on a new idea. The inequalities relating the divergence to the existing two divergences are shown, and the results are applied to the problems in inf.rmation theory. This paper discusses the relation between the inequality concerning Lin's divergence and the inequality concerning the f-divergence, Based on Lin's method of constructing the divergence, a new divergence called Hermite-Hadamard divergence is introduced. The property of the proposed divergence, as well as its relation to Lin's inequality, ate discussed. Using the proposed divergence, an inequality which is improved further compared to the inequality relating the Kullback divergence and Hellinger distance is derived. Those results are derived in this paper.
