AMCB: enhancing the authentication process with blockchain integrated with PUF and machine learning

The rapid advancement of technology has given rise to medical cyber-physical systems (MCPS), a subset of cyber-physical systems (CPS) specifically tailored for patient care and healthcare providers. MCPS generate substantial volumes of big data, posing challenges in terms of processing, storage, and safeguarding against unauthorized access. This paper introduces the Authenticated Medical Cyber-Physical Blockchain (AMCB) model within MCPS, leveraging Blockchain technology, machine learning, and physically unclonable functions (PUF) to fortify the authentication process, particularly for accessing electronic health records (EHR) stored on cloud servers. The model also involves analyzing data from authenticated devices to ensure its integrity. Experiments on the AMCB model evaluate its efficiency across four layers. In the physical layer, PUF keys are extracted using a built Static Random-Access Memory (SRAM) circuit and stored in a simulated Blockchain, yielding a Hamming Distance standard deviation of 6.60%. The inspection layer analyzes data from authenticated devices using machine learning, with the Random Forest achieving the highest accuracy at 99.21%. In the application layer, centered on user authentication, the average transaction time is 36.15 MS. Overall, the AMCB model requires an average of 49.82 ms to execute operations across all layers. These findings underscore the effectiveness of the proposed model in securing EHR in the dynamic landscape of MCPS. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Neuraltalk+: neural image captioning with visual assistance capabilities

Image captioning is a technique that generates concise and meaningful descriptions of the visual contents present in an image. Image captioning frameworks generally employ an encoder-decoder-based pipeline to generate image descriptions. Multimodal meaning space, visual and semantic fusion, and influential recurrent decoding are some of the highlights of these frameworks. However, the lack of cutting-edge implementation schemes, such as ensemble feature extraction, context-aware fusion, and real-time captioning, limit their integration in the vision assistance domain. In this research work, we introduce Neuraltalk+, which comprises various structural and functional enhancements, and feature-based extensions, making it lightweight, robust, effective, and automated. Neuraltalk+ uses ensemble feature extraction to extract visual and spatial image features for efficient image comprehension. We then map these feature vectors with multimodal semantic knowledge using dual context-aware feature fusion followed by self-attention-assisted decoding. Lastly, we introduce two new features: real-time captioning and visual similarity comparison, which allow vision assistance and sight comprehension capabilities. Experimental analysis on the Flickr 8K and Flickr 30K datasets demonstrates that our model trains faster and generates improved quantitative (BLEU(72.08), METEOR(33.65), and CIDEr(143.5)) and qualitative results. Neuraltalk+ also demonstrates high performance in real-time captioning for both familiar and unfamiliar contexts. Adaptive predictive analysis model utilizing Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) to enhance quality assurance processes in Smart Campus environments. Traditional predictive models often struggle with the dynamic and complex nature of educational data, leading to inaccurate predictions and inefficient decision-making. SNNs, inspired by biological neurons, are particularly suited for processing temporal data and adapting to evolving patterns. The proposed model integrates spike-timing-dependent plasticity (STDP) and dynamic weight adjustment to continuously learn and refine predictions in response to real-time data, ensuring improved accuracy and robustness. The study uses historical data from the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) over a three-year period, focusing on key performance indicators such as student enrollment trends, faculty productivity, and resource utilization. Experimental results demonstrate that the SNN-based model outperforms traditional neural networks, achieving a 20% reduction in Mean Squared Error (MSE) and a higher R-squared value. These findings indicate that the model not only enhances predictive accuracy but also offers significant improvements in operational efficiency and resource management. By providing timely and precise insights, this model supports proactive decision-making in educational institutions, enabling administrators to optimize resource allocation, monitor academic quality, and anticipate future challenges. This research contributes to the growing field of artificial intelligence in education, offering a scalable, adaptive approach to managing complex data and improving institutional performance in real-time. © 2024 IEEE.

Evolutionary optimization of Yagi–Uda antenna design using grey wolf optimizer

Meta-heuristic optimization algorithms have become widely used due to their outstanding features, such as gradient-free mechanisms, high flexibility, and great potential for avoiding local optimal solutions. This research explored the grey wolf optimizer (GWO) to find the ideal configuration for a six-element Yagi–Uda antenna. The GWO algorithm adjusted the lengths of the antenna wires and the spacings between them. The goal was to maximize the antenna’s ability to transmit signals (throughput gain). Optimal antenna selection relies on various parameters, including gain, bandwidth, impedance matching, frequency, side-lobe levels, etc. The optimization of a six-element Yagi–Uda antenna presents a challenging engineering design problem due to its multimodal and nonlinear nature. Achieving optimal performance hinges on the intricate interplay between the lengths of the constituent elements and the spacing configurations. To this end, a multiobjective function was adopted to design this antenna. The performance of several meta-heuristic algorithms, including genetic algorithms, biogeography-based optimization, simulated annealing, and grey wolf optimizer, was compared. The GWO-based approach has performed better than its competitors. This optimized antenna design based on GWO reported a gain of 14.21 decibel. Sleep quality prediction in Internet of Things (IoT) involves leveraging a system of interrelated devices to gather as well as analyse related data. Smart devices like wearable devices or smart mattresses endlessly monitor many parameters such as body movement, heart rate, and environmental situations in bedroom. Real-time recommendations and feedback transported to consumers, allowing them to create informed lifestyle changes for superior sleep hygiene. As IoT ecosystem continues to develop, a combination of various data streams as well as classy analytics holds assurance for further refining sleep quality forecasts and improving overall well-being. The article designs a Bald Eagle Search Algorithm with Hierarchical Deep Learning for Internet of Things Assisted Sleep Quality Recognition (BESHDL-SQP) technique. The purpose of the BESHDL-SQP technique is to recognize and classify the quality of the sleep level in the IoT environment. In the presented BESHDL-SQP technique, the preliminary stage of data pre-processing using min–max normalization involved to normalize the input data. For predicting sleep quality, hierarchical long short-term memory (LSTM) technique exploited. Lastly, BES model utilized for optimal hyperparameter selection of LSTM method which helps in attaining enhanced results. To validate better performance of BESHDL-SQP technique, a huge range of simulation analysis is carried out. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) has shifted the mindsets of engineering students on the importance of IT skills for current and future engineering related jobs. Nowadays, programming is the most fundamental skill that needs to be learnt by the students using mBot technology. The mBot technology is consider as programmable educational robot designed for beginners to learn basic programming concepts which can be assessed and evaluated via bloom's taxonomy framework. It can be a daunting task to learn programming, especially to new students who do not have any prior experience in coding. Average and low performing students are lacking algorithmic skills, where they could not visualize how the programming concepts work. Therefore, this paper presents the effectiveness of using robot to improve students’ learning of the programming concepts. In designing the learning modules, bloom’s taxonomy model and problem-based learning are adopted using mBot. Moreover, a low-cost and pre-programmed line follower robot has been used to demonstrate the outputs from the programs written in a more interactive manner. For the evaluation, pre-test and post-test of Quasi experimental design have been applied involving 40 students who were identified and categorized as average and low performing groups in the course. The findings show that a significant improvement has been observed from students’ performance and motivation. As such, the students’ performance is measured based on two phases of experiments. Whereas the students’ motivation is measured based on four motivation attributes: self-efficacy, active learning strategy, programming learning value and performance goal. © 2023 College of Education, Al-Iraqia University. iSSL-AL: a deep active learning framework based on self-supervised learning for image classification

Deep neural networks have demonstrated exceptional performance across numerous applications. However, DNNs require large amounts of labeled data to avoid overfitting. Unfortunately, the labeled data may not be available;annotating large amounts of data is time-consuming, laborious, and requires human expertise, making it unfeasible to rely on manpower for annotation. One of the solutions to address this limitation is active learning (AL), a technique that utilizes unlabeled data while maintaining high performance. AL reduces the annotation cost of large datasets and enhances the training of models with fewer annotations. Uncertainty sampling has been proven to be one of the most effective strategies in AL;however, it lacks diversity. This research proposes iSSL-AL, a novel active learning framework that utilizes self-supervised learning (SSL) to ensure informative yet diverse samples. Three main aspects categorize the novelty of our work. The first is extending the margin uncertainty sampling by incorporating SSL to select informative and diverse points. The second is employing incremental learning for efficient training of the AL base classifier, where the model is trained incrementally in each AL cycle. The third is addressing the cold start problem, as our framework achieved high results in the early stages of training. Experiments show that iSSL-AL outperforms other state-of-the-art algorithms on the MNIST, FashionMNIST, and CIFAR-10 datasets, with accuracy scores of 99%, 98.9%, and 93.5%, respectively, effectively selecting diverse and informative samples. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
