Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and can be deadly, necessitating early detection to enhance patient outcomes and treatment effectiveness. Recently, Machine Learning (ML) techniques have shown potential in medical diagnostics, especially in breast cancer screening. ML algorithms examine extensive medical databases, including patient records, to identify subtle patterns and anomalies indicative of cancer. These algorithms excel at recognizing intricate patterns that may be missed by human analysis. Thereby, increasing the precision of breast cancer diagnoses. By evaluating and analyzing medical data, ML algorithms can detect minute anomalies, facilitating early identification of potential cancer cases. A significant advantage of ML-based breast cancer detection is its capacity for continuous learning and adaptation. In this study, we utilized 34 classifiers and five feature selection methods on three datasets. The first dataset comprises 286 instances with 10 integer-type features. The second dataset includes 699 instances with 10 integer-type features, and the third dataset consists of 286 instances with 13 integer-type features. For Dataset 1, Filtered Classifier and J-48 yielded the best results, while the Bayesnet classifier performed best on Dataset 2. In Dataset 3, SimpleLogistic and LMT achieved the best outcomes. Regarding feature selection, the study showed that the GainRatioAttributeEval, InfoGainAttributeEval, and CorrelationAttributeEval techniques are the best among the feature selection methods tested in the study. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent decades,fog computing has played a vital role in executing parallel computational tasks,specifically,scientific workflow *** cloud data centers,fog computing takes more time to run workflow ***,it is essential to develop effective models for Virtual Machine(VM)allocation and task scheduling in fog computing *** task scheduling,VM migration,and allocation,altogether optimize the use of computational resources across different fog *** process ensures that the tasks are executed with minimal energy consumption,which reduces the chances of resource *** this manuscript,the proposed framework comprises two phases:(i)effective task scheduling using a fractional selectivity approach and(ii)VM allocation by proposing an algorithm by the name of Fitness Sharing Chaotic Particle Swarm Optimization(FSCPSO).The proposed FSCPSO algorithm integrates the concepts of chaos theory and fitness sharing that effectively balance both global exploration and local *** balance enables the use of a wide range of solutions that leads to minimal total cost and makespan,in comparison to other traditional optimization *** FSCPSO algorithm’s performance is analyzed using six evaluation measures namely,Load Balancing Level(LBL),Average Resource Utilization(ARU),total cost,makespan,energy consumption,and response *** relation to the conventional optimization algorithms,the FSCPSO algorithm achieves a higher LBL of 39.12%,ARU of 58.15%,a minimal total cost of 1175,and a makespan of 85.87 ms,particularly when evaluated for 50 tasks.

Fine-grained Energy-efficient Data Center Traffic Scheduling Mechanism Based on Hierarchical Control

With the continuous expansion of the data center, its energy consumption is also increasing. Aiming at the problem that the high redundancy of modern data center network causes low energy-consumption utilization, this paper proposes an energy-saving traffic scheduling algorithm (IMV-MLF) based on improved multi-layer-virtual-topology combined with maximum link-utilization path priority, which realizes more fine-grained control of each layer of virtual topology in data center network. Firstly, the relevant shap-ing linear programming mathematical model is established according to the optimization goal of energy conservation, which can minimize the energy consumption of the whole network as far as possible under the premise of meeting all network-flow requirements;Then, according to the optimization goal, the existing SDN based energy saving multi-layer-virtual-topology (EMV-SDN) method is improved. Whether the network devices in other layers are enabled is determined by the overall traffic level rather than the traffic level of a single link. On the basis of the opened level, the newly arrived network flows are preferentially allocated to the path with the highest link utilization, and overload link set is introduced, we can effectively use the available link routes with sufficient residual bandwidth to reduce congestion when the topology changes by marking the links whose link utilization reaches the critical value, and further count and close the links and switches which no network flows pass through. The experimental results show that the performance of IMV-MLF algorithm is better than multi-layer virtual topology energy saving (EMV-SDN) algorithm and the equivalent multipath (ECMP) algorithm in saving network energy. This result is helpful to provide another new idea for energy conservation of data center. © 2023, Journal of Network Intelligence.

A memetic-based technical indicator portfolio and parameters optimization approach for finding trading signals to construct transaction robot in smart city era

With the development of smart cities, the demand for personal financial services is becoming more and more importance, and personal investment suggestion is one of them. A common way to reach the goal is using a technical indicator to form trading strategy to find trading signals as trading suggestion. However, using only a technical indicator has its limitations, a technical indicator portfolio is further utilized to generate trading signals for achieving risk aversion. To provide a more reliable trading signals, in this paper, we propose an optimization algorithm for obtaining a technical indicator portfolio and its parameters for predicting trends of target stock by using the memetic algorithm. In the proposed approach, the genetic algorithm (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm are utilized for global and local search. In global search, a technical indicator portfolio and its parameters are first encoded into a chromosome using a bit string and real numbers. Then, the initial population is generated based on the encoding scheme. Fitness value of a chromosome is evaluated by the return and risk according to the generated trading signals. In local search, SA is employed to tune parameters of indicators in chromosomes. After that, the genetic operators are continue employed to generate new offspring. Finally, the chromosome with the highest fitness value could be provided to construct transaction robot for making investment plans in smart city environment. Experiments on three real datasets with different trends were made to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach, including uptrend, consolidation, and downtrend. The total returns of them on testing datasets are 26.53% 33.48%, and 9.7% that indicate the proposed approach can not only reach risk aversion in downtrends but also have good returns in others. © 2023 - IOS Press. In the contemporary business landscape, software has evolved into a strategic asset crucial for organizations seeking sustainable competitive advantage. The imperative of ensuring software quality becomes evident as low-quality software systems pose formidable challenges to organizational performance. This study delves into the profound impact of three key dimensions of information system quality on organizational performance—information quality (IQ), quality of service (QoS), and software quality (SQ). Anchored in the DeLone and McLean information system (IS) success model, a quantitative questionnaire was administered to 360 industry experts and academics. Rigorous data analysis, employing exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equation modeling (SEM), revealed significant positive effects of all three quality dimensions on organizational performance. Among these dimensions, software quality emerged as the most influential, showcasing substantial total effects, closely followed by information and service qualities. The study underscores the tangible value derived from strategic investments in enhancing software, information, and service quality. Elevating these facets manifests as a catalyst for improved organizational performance, empowering decision-makers with accurate and timely information while enhancing user satisfaction with the system. This research contributes significantly to the IS success literature by empirically validating the synergistic relationship between information quality, service quality, software quality, and organizational outcomes. The systematic analysis offered in this study goes beyond theoretical validation, providing actionable insights for managers. The findings guide the prioritization of quality initiatives and resource allocation, enabling organizations to maximize competitive advantage. Effects of feature selection and normalization on network intrusion detection

The rapid rise of cyberattacks and the gradual failure of traditional defense systems and approaches led to using artificial intelligence (AI) techniques (such as machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL)) to build more efficient and reliable intrusion detection systems (IDSs). However, the advent of larger IDS datasets has negatively impacted the performance and computational complexity of AI-based IDSs. Many researchers used data preprocessing techniques such as feature selection and normalization to overcome such issues. While most of these researchers reported the success of these preprocessing techniques on a shallow level, very few studies have been performed on their effects on a wider scale. Furthermore, the performance of an IDS model is subject to not only the utilized preprocessing techniques but also the dataset and the ML/DL algorithm used, which most of the existing studies give little emphasis on. Thus, this study provides an in-depth analysis of feature selection and normalization effects on IDS models built using three IDS datasets: NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CSE–CIC–IDS2018, and various AI algorithms. A wrapper-based approach, which tends to give superior performance, and min-max normalization methods were used for feature selection and normalization, respectively. Numerous IDS models were implemented using the full and feature-selected copies of the datasets with and without normalization. The models were evaluated using popular evaluation metrics in IDS modeling, intra- and inter-model comparisons were performed between models and with state-of-the-art works. Random forest (RF) models performed better on NSL-KDD and UNSW-NB15 datasets with accuracies of 99.86% and 96.01%, respectively, whereas artificial neural network (ANN) achieved the best accuracy of 95.43% on the CSE–CIC–IDS2018 dataset. Text line segmentation is a crucial step in document processing. Although text line segmentation techniques for handwritten documents in other languages (English, Chinese, Arabic) have developed, there is still room for improving text line segmentation in Myanmar handwritten documents. It is a challenging task to segment text lines in handwritten documents due to variations in handwriting styles, irregular spacing between lines and characters, and touching characters between lines. A method for Myanmar handwritten documents proposes to overcome these problems. The proposed system extracts bounding boxes of characters from text images by applying an anisotropic Gaussian method and connected component analysis (CCA). To extract correcting text lines by touching characters between lines, text lines are extracted by using proposed algorithm based on adaptive blob scale. To evaluate the proposed method, Myanmar handwritten documents dataset is collected from undergraduate students and high school students. According to the experimental results, the proposed technique achieves 97.5% accuracy rate with correct lines. © 2024 IEEE.
