The modern strategic development of any territory is being actively discussed today within a reasonable combination of market instruments to increase the attractiveness of the territory and improve the quality of life. To assess the effectiveness of territorial marketing activities, the integrated indicator or the system of the indicators is needed, which could be used to monitor how the needs for the formation of long-term competitive advantages of legal entities and improving the life quality are met. It should be noted that the development of approaches to the assessing the socio-economic development of the territory has become a necessary major trend in their attractiveness. The aim of the work is to develop scientific and methodological tools for calculating the integrated indicator for assessing the socio-economic development of the territory on the basis of a marketing approach. In the article was formed the author’s methodology of estimation of socio-economic policy of territories. A set of indicators characterising the quality of territorial population life has been formed;the assessment methodology of development priority of territorial clusters is offered;the integrated indicator of the efficiency of the territorial marketing system has been developed. Specified that the review of the territorial complex is based on the indicators of the quality of life of the population, the map of the quality of life is developed, which takes into account the key subjective and objective components. The direction of further research is based on development of territorial marketing activities tools, for solution of socio-economic imbalances of territories. The practical value of the article lies in the possibility of using theoretical and methodological developments for assessing the socio-economic development of the territory based on the marketing approach of state authorities in developing policy documents in socio-economic development of regions and settlements. © 20

Influence of local site effects on the typological fragility curves for class-oriented masonry buildings in aggregate condition

Background: The Municipality of Baranello, located in the province of Campobasso, is considered as a reference case study for implementing a systematic procedure for the assessment of local site effects. The territory is characterised by a heterogeneous soil, made of a basal interval formed in large part by outcrops found along with the middle-basal bands of the local slopes, which is particularly sensitive to geo-hazard effects. Aims: The present work aims to investigate the influence of local site effects on the seismic vulnerability of an oriented-class of masonry building compounds. The historical buildings surveyed are mainly made up of rough stone masonry, particularly vulnerable to seismic phenomena. The buildings are appropriately grouped in typological classes based on the CARTIS form and then subdivided into different categories according to the EMS-98 scale based on their geometrical and structural characteristics. Methods: The performed vulnerability analysis is based on a vulnerability-index method conceived for buildings grouped in aggregate condition. Moreover, the expected damage scenario is properly evaluated based on a specific attenuation law to take into consideration the effect produced by a reference scenario event. Furthermore, the local site conditions have been evaluated based on a 1D half space approach in order to predict the possible increment of the expected damage due to the soil stratigraphy. Results: The local site conditions provide a global increment of the expected vulnerability of 33% with respect to the case in which the geo-hazard effects are neglected. In this activity framework, typological fragility curves are derived for comparing the exceeding probability thresholds for the examined building classes. A method is proposed for increasing the efficiency of using energy systems (photovoltaic modules, solar collectors) due to the optimal location on the building envelope. A mathematical and graphical model has been developed, the Gelioopt program has been developed to determine the optimal orientation and area parameters for photovoltaic modules. A method is proposed for a quick graphical determination of the amount of converted solar energy by photovoltaic modules, and solar collectors, depending on the spatial orientation of solar receivers using building drawings. The proposed developments make it possible to simplify the calculation procedure and increase the determining of optimal parameters speed for solar receivers and is a proposed new type of geometric models. © 2022 IEEE.

In modern-day architecture, the choice of building material plays an important role in sustainability, cost-value engineering, and design integrity. Moreover, the traditional methods for selecting materials tended to make use of manual approaches, which at times led to drawbacks by not focusing on the basics of integration and proper data management. The paper is a very interesting approach of how a complex material selection process can be optimized with simple machine learning algorithms. In that sense, the current research developed a framework from environmental sustainability to economic cost, durability, and aesthetic appeal, with an intention for its use in guiding the design final decision process. The proposed machine learning model suggests ideal prediction for material combination from different material datasets concerning the properties and performance metrics applicable to architecture. The research showed that the approach had a hand in getting thoughtful, analytic-based decisions while assuring, at the same time, that an architect would be able to satisfy the project goals and budget constraints with environmentally safe execution. It elaborates on the cases, or rather case studies, that have applied the model and gives illustrations of great improvements not only in efficiency in design but also in the sustainability of the project coupled with better strategies for saving costs. The current research is opening an entirely new field of innovation in architecture that emphasizes the role of technology for the future form of building practice.

The assessment of the ultimate load capacity of masonry domes and vaults is a complex open issue of both professional and research concern. 3D curved geometry of such structures entails biaxial stress states and highly nonlinear mechanical behaviors which require advanced computational strategies to be rigorously dealt with. This study focuses on the assessment of the capacity of masonry hemispherical domes subjected to horizontal forces (such as those produced by wind and earthquake). In the framework of Limit Analysis (LA), a parametric Membrane Equilibrium Analysis (MEA) is proposed based on No-Tension (NT) material assumptions in the sense of Heyman: the unilateral membrane must lay inside the boundary surfaces of the dome and the membrane stress must have a non-positive concave potential. The membrane equilibrium problem for the dome is then formulated in Pucher form and controlled by a few parameters to be optimized. Two elementary examples are also provided to illustrate the method. © 2021 COMPDYN Proceedings.

The adoption of Light-gauge Steel framed (LSF) panels has recently gained a rapid increase in designing low to mid-rise buildings, especially in high seismicity zones due to their light weight and the environmentally sustainable solution that they offer. In this study, a new innovative solution of Double Layers (DL) of Magboard (MGO) is proposed for LSF panel, to evaluate its thermomechanical response under an axial compression load, subjected to fire ISO834. Their vulnerability to high temperatures requires more solutions for protection and its configurations in order to improve their fire resistance rating (FRR), taking into account the panel weight and cost. Therefore numerical models are developed and calibrated, using ANSYS APDL, to predict the temperature effect and to study the influence of using of innovative DL of MGO instead of single layer or conventional DL for LSF panels. The outcomes of this research show that the innovative DL may be used instead of the conventional one since they are provided a similarity of behavior for FRR. The incorporation of recycled aggregates from construction and demolition waste into concrete represents a promising sustainability strategy within the construction sector. This article addresses this topic by introducing the development of a comprehensive database, which not only compiles valuable data on the main physical and mechanical properties of concrete with recycled aggregates but also includes specific insights derived from statistical distribution analysis. By integrating statistical distribution analysis, this article provides a nuanced understanding of the statistical variability in concrete properties when utilizing recycled aggregates. As a result, it helps reduce waste production, preserve natural resources, and address environmental concerns. The database’s accessibility and comprehensiveness are expected to foster research, knowledge dissemination, and the evolution of sustainable concrete technology. Ultimately, it contributes to the construction industry’s transformation towards a more environmentally responsible and resource-efficient future.

Open-plan offices have become a typical office type in current, due to economic reasons and facilitating information flow. Its defects in the acoustic environment received a growing concern since poor acoustic environments are harmful to occupant’s environment satisfaction, work productivity, and health status. In this study, a questionnaire survey was carried out in a construction company, and aims to examine the effects of acoustic factors (i.e. indoor noise level, speech privacy, and disturbance from 9 common noise sources) on acoustic satisfaction of architects and building structural engineers in open-plan offices and to explore whether there are differences in acoustic perception and demands between architects and building structural engineers. A total of 249 participants were asked to answer a series of questions. The results demonstrate the high correlations between acoustic factors (speech interference on respondent’s reconcentration and problem-solving speed, and perceived noise level) and acoustic satisfaction for both architects and building structural engineers, and emphasize that speech noises (nearby and distance colleague chatting, telephone conversation) are the main noise sources impacting acoustic satisfaction. Speech privacy is an important factor impacting acoustic satisfaction for architects, while it is not for building structural engineers. In addition, the analysis reveals that architect’s perception of acoustic factors depends on gender. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Experimental Investigation of Heat Transfer and Pressure Losses Across Staggered Body Centered Cubic Arrays Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

Truss type lattice structures are regarded as a promising approach to design compact heat exchangers that are characterized also by good mechanical performances. The design of these structures can be tailored to satisfy multifunctional requirements and manufactured by exploiting the capabilities of additive manufacturing. This study reports on the experimental characterization of the aerothermal behaviour of Body-Centred Cubic (BCC) lattice stagger arrays in a rectangular channel. which differ by the truss diameter. The heat exchangers are made from AlSi10Mg by means of Laser Powder Bed Fusion. The morphological characterization of the internal channel features was carried out through optical and non-destructive methods, which highlights some marginal defects caused by inherent limitations of the technology. The samples were then tested on a dedicated test rig by applying uniform heat flux boundary conditions up to a Reynolds number of 20'000. The experimental rig and methodology were firstly tested on a smooth channel and the results were found to be consistent with the literature. The BCC structure with the largest diameter performs the best in terms of heat transfer in view of the higher wetted surface. On the other hand, as expected, the friction factor shows the opposite trend. However, the thermal performance factor does not differ much among the different configurations, with slightly better performances observed for the larger diameter truss. Finally, correlations were found to predict both aero and thermal performances of the considered structure by introducing a modified formulation for the friction factor, Nusselt and Reynolds numbers. © 2022, The Authors.
