The general goals of the political program of the digital decade until 2030 and the possibilities of their adaptation to the conditions of Ukraine are analyzed. Based on an analysis of global experience, the prospects for the development of IT education in Ukrainian universities have been identified. The object of the research was the activity of state and private universities in Ukraine. The world models of professional development for the IT education sphere were summarized, and the expediency of their innovative application in Ukraine was emphasized. The most significant challenges in the Ukrainian IT education system were identified (the need to improve cooperation between academia and industry, the introduction of dual education, and overcoming legislative obstacles). It was noted that the problems faced by educational systems in other countries are similar. This created the basis for solving these problems in the Ukrainian context based on the application of world experience. It is emphasized that a unique context-specific solution to the above-mentioned problems can be the strengthening of the specialized component of educational programs of Ukrainian universities in IT education, which are focused on its final product. It is recommended to strengthen their specialization and to form expert knowledge in each individual direction.

In this paper, a novel methodology is developed for the characterization of the capacity of rectangular-shaped concrete-filled steel tubes (CFSTs). In the scientific research field, of particular interest is the behavior of long CFST columns under eccentric compressive load. These conditions promote failure mechanisms involving global member buckling. The developed methodologies are based on machine learning techniques found on artificial neural networks (ANNs). Furthermore, optimization methodologies, employing the grey wolf optimization algorithm and the firefly algorithm, have been attempted. For the training and validation of the models, a database consisting of 1,641 experimental tests collected from literature sources has been prepared, containing long and short specimens as well as specimens with or without load eccentricity. As the vast majority of the available experimental tests involve short specimens, the database has been augmented with 216 3D finite element models (FEMs), featuring increased member slenderness values. The calibration of the FEMs has been performed against experimental tests. The performance of the developed models has been measured through a number of performance indices, and compared with available code procedures. They have been found to provide significant improvements, both for short and long CFST columns, with the ANN model optimized with the firefly algorithm outperforming the others. Furthermore, a graphical user interface (GUI) has been developed which can be readily used to estimate the axial load capacity of CFST columns through the optimal ANN model. The paper seeks to investigate if an integrated strategic and performance-based methodological approach can contribute to tackle uncertainty and to overcome the rigid and long-lasting regulation belonging to the prescriptive planning. This approach is based on the multi-scalar dimensions of different decision-making levels;action programs;governance and social involvement. The methodological framework proposed is based on different methodological evaluation tools in order to support an adaptive and inclusive decisional process. The aim of this study is dual. On the one hand, we want to prove how an integrated approach, involving both strategic and performance-based planning methodologies, can incorporate the strengths of both approaches, while complementing their separate weaknesses, toward enhancing the decision-making processes for the sustainable regeneration of territories. On the other hand, we highlight how a flexible, dynamic, adaptive, context-aware, and site-specific decision support system can contribute to the definition of alternative scenarios and lead public authorities to opt for the most performing one in terms of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The tool implemented was tested for the case study of the regeneration of a naturalist site in Pantelleria, a little island in the south of Italy belonging to a group of fragile territories that were cut off by the main development dynamics and have gradually become marginalized due to depletion of the local economy and demographic decline. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

In the automotive industry, it is important to evaluate different car setups in order to match a professional driver's preference or to match the most acceptable setup for most drivers. Therefore, it is of great significance to devise objective and automatic procedures to assess a driver's response to different car settings. In this work, we analyze different physiological signals in order to evaluate how a particular car setup can be more or less stressful than others. In detail, we record an endosomatic Electrodermal Activity (EDA) signal, called Skin Potential Response (SPR), the Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal, and eye tracking coordinates. We eliminate motion artifacts by processing two SPR signals, one from each hand of the driver. Tests are carried out in a company that designs driving simulators, where the tested individuals had to drive along a straight highway with several lane changes. Three different car setups have been tested (neutral, understeering, and oversteering). We apply a statistical test to the data extracted from the cleaned SPR signal, and we then compare the results with the ones obtained using a Machine Learning algorithm. We show that we are able to discriminate the drivers' response to each setup, and, in particular, that the base car setup generates the least intense emotional response when compared to the understeering and the oversteering car setups. © 2021 European Signal Processing Conference, EUSIPCO. Preparation of Coal Gasification Coarse Slag-Based Alkaline Activator and its Activation Mechanism in Alkali-Activated Slag

The good performance and durability of alkali-activated slag (AAS) make it to be a potential alternative to ordinary Portland cement. However, the preparation of activators such as water-glass is energy-intensive. In this paper, the feasibility of using a novel activator derived from coal gasification coarse slag (CGCS) for the preparation of AAS was investigated. The CGCS-based activators were the filtrates of CGCS and NaOH compound solution at 150°C with different CGCS/NaOH ratios. By comparison with water glass-activated slag and NaOH-activated slag, the hydration reaction activity, mechanical property, hydrates composition, and microstructure of the CGCS-activated slag were studied. The results indicate that the compressive strength of CGCS-activated slag reached to 55.25 MPa at 28 d, much higher than NaOH-activated slag (43.08 MPa). CGCS-activated slag also performed the similar hydration dynamic to water glassactivated slag in terms of early heat release and hydrates assemblage. The amorphous silicon from CGCS dissolved in the filtrate played a crucial role in the activation effect of CGCS-based activator, which promoted the early hydration of CGCS-activated slag and contributed to the C-(A)-S-H with longer chain length. These findings proposed the mechanism of slag activated by CGCS-based activator, and provided an eco-friendly strategy for AAS production. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The integration of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in urban infrastructure has increased significantly, and one of the most notable examples is the development of autonomous vehicles (AVs). AVs have become a solution to various driving problems, such as performing complete overtaking maneuvers (OM). These maneuvers are considered one of the most difficult to carry out. Although there are many papers on OM maneuvers with AVs, not all of these studies focus on the performance of complete OM. Therefore, a comprehensive and scientific exploration of the analysis of complete OM with AVs is lacking. This study aims to address this gap through a systematic review following the PRISMA protocol as methodology, examining 51 articles published between 2008 and 2024 in the Science Direct, Scopus, and Web of Science (WOS) databases. The results showed that methodologies such as Model Predictive Control (MPC), Fuzzy Control (FC), and sigmoidal functions are used most to perform complete OM with AVs. MPC is the most relevant methodology due to its capability to be combined with other control systems and its predictive ability. FC and sigmoidal functions are also appropriate for dealing with inaccuracies and non-linear features associated with overtaking maneuvers. However, there are still complications related to computational complexity and sensor limitations. Future studies should consider and integrate the development of comprehensive systems that combine multiple real-time control methodologies and offer a robust combination of sensors. This review contributes to teaching studies that reveal promising opportunities for complete OM with AVs research and provide access to methodologies that could be optimized based on technological advances and emerging needs of the ITS sector. Addressing these knowledge gaps is essential to achieving safer and more efficient overtaking maneuvers by AVs. © 2024 The Author(s)

Accurately predicting discrepancies between simulated and actual building performance is becoming increasingly crucial in building management and optimization of e.g., Digital Twins and energy efficiency assessments. This challenge is amplified by the growing dependence on simulation models which predict building behavior, energy consumption, and operational efficiency. Despite advancements in simulation technology, aligning these models with real-world data remains a persistent challenge. This study addresses this challenge by developing a regression-based model designed to predict discrepancies between simulated and actual operational characteristics of buildings. The model identifies differences between synchronized time series data to generate a new series that highlights these discrepancies. By employing a sliding window technique, the model processes actual operational data to predict discrepancies. They implemented this approach using AdaBoost and Random Forest, evaluating performance across eight datasets of Indoor Air Temperature from two cities. The results demonstrate that the Random Forest algorithm significantly outperforms AdaBoost, with improvements in R2 scores of up to 23 percent and reductions in RMSE by up to 4.5 times. © 2024 The Authors.

Reasonable evaluation of the bond performance between steel bars and concrete has important theoretical and practical value for reinforced concrete structural design and seismic analysis. The stress (τ)-strain (ϵ) formula is corrected based on a pull-out test, and the load (F)-deflection (w) curves are analyzed according to the change of stiffness before and after crack appearance based on a beam test, and new estimation formulas are given. At the same time, the bond properties are compared between all-lightweight shale ceramsite concrete (ALWSCC) and normal weight concrete (NWC). The results show that the bond property of ALWSCC is better than NWC. The bond stresses of pull-out specimens and beam specimens are the same or similar under equal conditions, but the ultimate load (F0) of the former is about 3.66 times that of the latter, the peak slip (S0) of the latter is 4.80 times that of the former, and the latter has significant splitting or pull-out failure characteristics. The peak slip (S0) in this paper is larger than that in the related literature, where the pull-out specimens are no more than 10 mm, and are generally less than 2 mm, while the beam specimens are not more than 3 mm, with the others generally around 1 mm. The research results have reference values and guiding significance for similar experimental research and engineering practice. © 2021 The authors and IOS Press.

Advanced numerical analyses were carried out in order to assess the nonlinear dynamical behaviour of the bell tower of Pomposa Abbey in Codigoro, in the province of Ferrara (Italy), by means of the Non-Smooth Contact Dynamics (NSCD) method. The main purpose of the work is to investigate the capacity of the main mechanical parameter used in the analyses, namely, the friction coefficient, to have effects on the mechanical response of ancient masonry structures undergoing seismic actions. Therefore, the tower was modelled following the discrete element method (DEM) and assembling the masonry texture as rigid bodies tied by frictional joints. Thus a discontinuous approach was used to assess the dynamic properties and the vulnerability of the masonry structure, through large deformations regulated by the Signorini's law, concerning the impenetrability between the rigid bodies; and by the Coulomb's law, regarding the dry-friction model. Afterward, different values were assigned to the friction coefficient of the models, and a variety of real seismic shocks have been applied in the nonlinear analyses. Finally, it is possible to see different failure mechanisms resulting for each friction value and types of dynamic actions used, as expected. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
