Standard acoustic parameters such as reverberation time T20 and clarity C50 are measured or calculated according to ISO 3382-1. The additional parameter STI (Speech Transmission Index) is measured or calculated according to the IEC 601268-16 standard, recently upgraded in 2020. In Italy, it is a legal requirement to verify the values of these acoustic parameters for new public buildings, both in the design phase (calculated values) and in the official assessment of the building performance (measured values). The relevant legislation was drafted in 1997, updated in 2017 with the introduction of the minimum environmental criteria (Decree of the Ministry of the Environment of 11/10/2017)), and recently further updated with the Decree by Ministry of Ecological Transition No. 256 of 23/06/2022. This decree became legally effective in December 2022 and is still very innovative at the time of writing. It requires that the values of three "advanced" acoustic parameters (T20, C50 and STI) be evaluated in all new public buildings, with particularly severe prescriptions in the values to be achieved in special categories of buildings, such as schools. These advanced acoustic parameters are additional to the standard ones, such as the sound reduction index of partitions and facades, the impact sound level and the noise level generated by HVAC systems, which are mandatory in Italy for all types of buildings since the introduction of DPCM 5/12/1997. This paper deals with these three advanced acoustic parameters, which have only recently become mandatory, and describes the update of the Ramsete and Aurora software packages, widely used in Italy to perform predictive calculations and experimental verification of these "room acoustic" parameters. Recent updates to these software tools make them compatible with the newer version of the standards, and hence with the new legislation. In vitro modeling of fluid dynamics in the left and right coronary arteries during rest and exercise conditions

Accurate understanding and simulation of coronary artery perfusion are crucial for assessing the heart function under varying cardiac workloads. This is particularly important given that sudden cardiac death (SCD) events have been observed during intense physical activity, not only in individuals with congenital coronary anomalies but also in healthy individuals. In response, we developed a novel in vitro laboratory setup to study the fluid dynamics of the left (LCA) and right (RCA) coronary arteries, using an anatomically accurate model of a healthy human aortic root and ascending aorta under different workloads. A key achievement is the simultaneous measurement of pressure in the left ventricle (LV), aorta (Ao), LCA, and RCA, along with flow rates in both coronary arteries. This is the first study to provide high-resolution, simultaneous in vitro data on pressure and flow values in coronary arteries under both rest and exercise conditions. During rest, the aortic pressure waveform decreases linearly, while during exercise, it displays a secondary diastolic peak. This distinctive aortic pressure feature during exercise is reflected in the coronary fluid dynamics, highlighting differences in the mechanisms of rest and exercise conditions. The RCA pressure closely mirrors the aortic pressure under all conditions, but the LCA pressure shows a secondary diastolic peak during exercise, phase-shifted by $$\sim 0.2T$$ from the cardiac cycle. This peak arises from a backward propagating pressure wave from its distal part, generated by myocardium contraction loads. Our findings highlight the amplified interaction of incident and reflected waves during exercise, making LCA perfusion highly sensitive to wave dynamics.

The ongoing Industry 4.0 revolution is reshaping the construction sector, emphasising the growing importance of digital technologies for knowledge management. This transition is supported by Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems), promoting sustainable development and environmental protection. Through 3D modelling, geomatics enhances spatial data analysis with improved speed and precision. However, the high cost of terrestrial laser scanners necessitates more economical alternatives. This study contributes to defining an acquisition process across different platforms by presenting an innovative approach for 3D documentation of a barn and manure pit. The method combines images from a DJI Mavic Enterprise 3 drone with a GNSS-RTK antenna. Additionally, the study compares the accuracy and final product of Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and Gaussian Splatting (GS) methods, using drone acquisition as the validation reference. The results show that NeRF and GS are similar in accuracy and produce a realistic final product but limited to the barn and manure pit retaining wall coverage. The volume calculation depends on the point density generated on the ground based on the number of shots and different angles. This paper has implications for the inventory of rural buildings and associated structures, offering an effective method for generating 3D models in the agricultural field. This technology can quickly document and evaluate the available space within agricultural structures, providing new insights into possible alternative uses and efficiencies. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Rapid and extensive landscape changes have renewed interest in these landscapes’ cultural and heritage values. Efforts are underway to inventory, monitor, and evaluate landscapes to develop effective management and conservation plans, giving rise to new concepts. This study applied advanced tools such as the Maptools landscape metrics tool and GIS to map and analyse historical landscape transformations in Cartoceto, Italy. Using aerial photos from 1955, 1988 and 2019, we identified patterns and changes in landscape character, revealing significant trends in land use and ecological diversity. Our findings enhance understanding of landscape dynamics and inform conservation strategies, particularly within the European Union’s Geographical Indications scheme. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The consequences of the presence of an industrial site in a residential area are manifold. The pollution associated with the proximity to these facilities represents a major risk to the health and well-being of the community. The degradation of the environmental quality of an urban area leads the population to make conscious choices about where they live and to seek out unpolluted urban portions. This attitude has inevitable effects on the dynamics of the housing market and, more generally, on the economy of the area. This work aims to outline a methodological approach that is functional to the structuring of a questionnaire divided into three operational phases. The practical implication of the questionnaire submission is i) to study the relationship between industrial sites and real estate market and ii) to provide data to support decision-makers in developing strategies and policies for intervention on the territory. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

The novel concept of signature graphs extends signed graphs by admitting multiple types of partial similarity/agreement or dissimilarity/disagreement. Extending the concept of balancedness to signature graphs yields an explicit and efficient basis for multi-class clustering and classification. Contrary to existing two-stage approaches that consist of graph learning followed by graph clustering, we propose a one-step procedure that directly learns a perfectly clustered graph. We describe the algorithmic constituents for our approach and illustrate its superiority via numerical simulations. © 2023 IEEE.

The high penetration of distributed generation(DG)has set up a challenge for energy management and consequently for the monitoring and assessment of power quality(PQ).Besides,there are new types of disturbances owing to the uncontrolled connections of non-linear *** stochastic behaviour triggers the need for new holistic indicators which also deal with big data of PQ in terms of compression and scalability so as to extract the useful information regarding different network states and the prevailing PQ disturbances for future risk assessment and energy management *** and continuous monitoring would guarantee the report to claim for damages and to assess the risk of PQ *** this context,we propose a measurement method that postulates the use of two-dimensional(2D)diagrams based on higher-order statistics(HOSs)and a previous voltage quality index that assesses the voltage supply waveform in a continous monitoring *** suitable for both PQ and reliability applications,the results conclude that the inclusion of HOS measurements in the industrial metrological reports helps characterize the deviations of the voltage supply waveform,extracting the individual customers’pattern fingerprint,and compressing the data from both time and spatial *** method allows a continuous and robust performance needed in the SG ***,the method can be used by an average consumer as a probabilistic method to assess the risk of PQ deviations in site characterization.

Nonlinear rheological behavior of asphalt based on large amplitude oscillation shear test under different loading,aging,and modification conditions

To reveal the effects of environmental and loading conditions, as well as asphalt properties on the nonlinear rheological behavior of asphalt, the large amplitude oscillation shear(LAOS) test was introduced, and the Fourier transform rheology, Lissajous curve method, and the LAOS fatigue test have been applied to investigate the nonlinear rheological behavior of asphalt binders. The research results indicate that a decrease in temperature, an increase in shear frequency and strain level, the introduction of polymer modifiers, and the aging effect of asphalt can significantly increase the nonlinearity of asphalt, manifested by the higher relative magnitude of the third harmonic and zero-strain nonlinear coefficient. For the two polymer modifiers selected in this study, the 4%polyurethane modifier exhibits a higher nonlinear lifting effect than the 4% styrene-butadiene-styrene(SBS). The impact of long-term aging on nonlinear viscoelasticity is observably greater than that of short-term aging. The zero-strain nonlinear coefficient estimated based on the average value method can accurately characterize the nonlinear viscoelasticity of asphalt, which can serve as an effective supplement to the relative magnitude of the third harmonic. All asphalts exhibit shear thinning behavior under the test temperature of 24℃, and the decrease in test temperature, the increase in shear rate and strain level, the introduction of modifiers, and the aging effect of asphalt all exacerbate the shear thinning behavior of asphalt. In addition, the fatigue failure process of asphalt materials is accompanied by an increasing degree of nonlinearity.

In modern-day architecture, the choice of building material plays an important role in sustainability, cost-value engineering, and design integrity. Moreover, the traditional methods for selecting materials tended to make use of manual approaches, which at times led to drawbacks by not focusing on the basics of integration and proper data management. The paper is a very interesting approach of how a complex material selection process can be optimized with simple machine learning algorithms. In that sense, the current research developed a framework from environmental sustainability to economic cost, durability, and aesthetic appeal, with an intention for its use in guiding the design final decision process. The proposed machine learning model suggests ideal prediction for material combination from different material datasets concerning the properties and performance metrics applicable to architecture. The research showed that the approach had a hand in getting thoughtful, analytic-based decisions while assuring, at the same time, that an architect would be able to satisfy the project goals and budget constraints with environmentally safe execution. It elaborates on the cases, or rather case studies, that have applied the model and gives illustrations of great improvements not only in efficiency in design but also in the sustainability of the project coupled with better strategies for saving costs. The current research is opening an entirely new field of innovation in architecture that emphasizes the role of technology for the future form of building practice. © 2024 IEEE.
