Inter-turn short circuit fault is a significant problem in power transformers which if not detected at early stages, can propagate in power networks and eventually burgeon into catastrophic faults and substantial costs. Online frequency response analysis (FRA) is well on its way of becoming a reliable tool for condition monitoring and fault detection of transformer since no disconnection is required to conduct the test. Among the two existing FRA methods, sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) and impulse frequency response analysis (IFRA), IFRA has reached the potential for online application. This contribution aims to detect inter-turn short circuit fault through online transfer function monitoring of the power transformer winding using the impulse technique, a method which utilizes a capacitive coupling circuit to inject a controlled high voltage nanosecond pulse into the transformer winding. To this end, 3D finite element electromagnetic analysis and transformer equivalent high frequency electrical model have been used as auxiliary tools to precisely emulate the real transformer operation and investigate the impact of inter-turn short-circuit faults on the transformer equivalent circuit parameters and thereby, transformer online FRA signature. Simulations were performed with two different levels of inter-turn fault severity. The results show that inter-turn short circuit can be effectively detected with the transformer in service using the impulse method.

Energy storage is used to balance the variant power for the stability of the grid. It is significant to understand the fluctuation characteristic of renewable energy (RE) generation and the requirements of energy storage when large-scale RE is integrated in the grid. In the paper, a novel method based on time and frequency domain analysis is proposed for energy storage system (ESS) sizing, including both power sizing and energy sizing. According to the relationship between charge/discharge power and stored energy, the sizing model is established based on autocorrelation function and power spectral density (PSD) of the stochastic cycling process. The time and spectral characteristic of RE generation is analyzed based on the historical generation data of a wind farm and a PV station in the Northwest region of China. The size of energy storage is determined by the time and frequency domain method respectively. Comparing with the time domain method, it is showed that the frequency domain method is sufficient for energy storage sizing with enough accuracy and a much easier calculation process at the same time.

This paper presents a sound pressure signal acquiring and processing method to perform state identification during surgical milling process. According to the dynamic of surgical milling, it is proved that the magnitude of the sound pressure signal during cortical bone milling is larger than that during cancellous bone milling. The signal recorded by a microphone is decomposed into some frequency sub-bands through the wavelet packet transform (WPT), and the ratio of the WPT energy during bone milling to the WPT energy during free running is calculated to determine that the material being milled is either cortical bone or cancellous bone. The proposed method is experimentally verified through the milling operation in in vitro porcine spines, and the experimental results indicates that the energy ratio during cortical bone milling is larger than that during cancellous bone milling, so the states of the milling operation can be identified correctly. © 2015 IEEE.

In this paper, the Ag metal thin film electrode replacing ITO used as transparent electrode is attempted. We mainly reveal the mechanism through theoretical simulations and supply the means to make the metal type and thickness selection. The calculation method of metal's dielectric function is introduced based on the origin of metal's dielectric properties. We deduce the two models of Lorentz-Drude model and Drude model and indicate the relation between complex refractive index and dielectric function. Also, the optical simulation approaches are provided by transfer matrix method for optical films, such as for computing the transmittance, reflectance, absorption. We provides the basis for metal selection of semi-transparency materials and their thickness. On simulated results, considering the compromising situations including good conductivity, 20 nm Ag is a good selection for semi-transparent metal electrode rather than Al in real OLEDs(Organic Light-emitting Diodes) fabrications.

Ground micro-gravity verification and test is vitally important for space robot. This paper mainly introduces a kind of ground micro-gravity emulation system, which can be used to verify the process of space robot capturing the target satellite in the 3-dimensional space. The system adopts the hardware-in-the-loop simulation, which mainly includes the real hardware system and the simulation software. The dynamics of space robot and the target satellite are modelled, respectively. The motion emulation of the servicing satellite base and that of the target satellite are realized by the dynamics simulation and the motion of two industrial robots. Then, the gravity compensation methods of force sensor for space manipulator and the target satellite are described, respectively. Finally, the ground micro-gravity emulation system is built and the base motion emulation of space manipulator capturing the target satellite is realized.

Lake sediments can provide high-quality information about human activities. In this study, we investigate a sediment core from Lake Xiaolongwan using magnetic and geochemical methods. The dominant magnetic minerals of this sediment core are stable single domain(SSD) and superparamagnetic(SP)magnetite particles. The increasing amount of SP particles reflected by the rise of magnetic susceptibility and frequency dependent magnetic susceptibility since AD 1500 can be attributed to an increasing influx in pedogenic soil, which is related to a regional-scale increase in the intensity of human activity in Northeastern China. This extends the timing of human activities, which is independent from climate changes and its effects on local ecosystems in Northeastern China significantly.

The series connection of insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) allows the operation at voltage levels higher than the rated voltage of one IGBT. However, the technology has not been widely applied due to transient voltage unbalance. Asynchronous gate drive signals, which cause series-connected IGBTs not to turn-on and turn-off at the same time, result in serious unbalanced voltage sharing. This paper presents an active voltage balancing control for multi series connected HV-IGBTs including the active voltage balancing control (AVBC) circuit integrated in the gate driver and the control for multi series connected IGBTs. The effectiveness of the control has been experimentally validated in a 10 kV dc-link voltage converter using four 4.5 kV HV-IGBTs in series connection.

MDPRE Solution for drilling rig sticking

Drilling rig sticking, which poses great danger for operators in coal mine production, occurs frequently owing to various factors during the process of drilling in underground coal mines. To solve the sticking problem, the hydraulic power of the drilling rig, which has a significant influence on sticking, is studied. The relation between the torque provided by the hydraulic power unit and the torque required is determined. A model of the hydraulic system based on the multi-way valve applied in a typical drilling rig is built using the hydraulic component design of AMESim;then, the hydraulic system model is simulated under similar working condition with actual condition. Subsequently, a theoretical expression is deduced according to hydraulic and mechanical theorems, and a control method based on dynamic performance curves and relation expression (MDPRE) combining system simulation with theoretical expression is proposed. Finally, experiments are conducted 10 times/shifts to validate the MDPRE. The ultimate results show that the solution is viable and effective. © 2016 Fuji Technology Press Ltd. All Rights Reserved.

This paper presents a simulator for swarm operations designed to verify algorithms for a swarm of autonomous underwater robots (AUVs), specifically for constructing an underwater communication network with AUVs carrying acoustic communication devices. This simulator consists of three nodes: a virtual vehicle node (VV), a virtual environment node (VE), and a visual showing node (VS). The modular design treats AUV models as a combination of virtual equipment. An expert acoustic communication simulator is embedded in this simulator, to simulate scenarios with dynamic acoustic communication nodes. The several simulations we have performed demonstrate that this simulator is easy to use and can be further improved.
