This paper proposes a novel threshold control approach for creating multi-scroll chaotic attractors. The general jerk circuit is used as an example to show the working principle of this method. The controlled jerk circuit can emerge various limit cycles and n-scroll chaotic attractors by adjusting the upper threshold, lower threshold, and the width of inner saturated plateau. The dynamical mechanism of the threshold control is then further explored by analyzing the system dynamical behaviors. In particular, this method is effective and simple to implement since we only need monitor a single state variable and reset it if it exceeds the thresholds. It indicates the potential engineering applications for various chaos-based information systems

This paper deals with the problem of robust fault estimation for uncertain time delay Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy models. The aim of this study is to design a delay dependent fault estimator ensuring a prescribed H infin performance level for the fault estimation error, irrespective of the uncertainties and the time delays. Sufficient conditions for the existence of a robust fault estimator are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The paper focuses on a selected class of decision problems related with the production flow planning in SMEs, particularly in new production orders. Verification of orders gives a possibility to evaluate whether resources capacity of a manufacturer is balanced with the orderer's requirements. The class of decision problems under analysis is included in the scope of organizational production preparation and can be naturally determined by available CLP (constraint logic programming) tools. The approach proposed in the paper is based on establishment of an interface which facilitates its task oriented use. The system has been presented on the basis of a sample order execution in a manufacturer's company (Archimedes S.A.).

This paper analyses several extended rough set models in incomplete information systems and proposes a tolerance relation based model of processing grey incomplete information systems, which is an extension to rough set models. The method of the model is: firstly partitioning the original incomplete information system by introduced threshold value, then establishing tolerance classes through grey tolerance relation and obtaining upper and lower approximations through these tolerance classes. Moreover, a method of whitening grey numbers based on grey tolerance relation is given. This paper shows that the model accords with practice according to examples and the algorithm of whitening grey numbers is also comparatively ideal. The more important point is that the subjective needs are considered during partitioning grey tolerance classes by introducing threshold value. This paper provides a new analytical robust stability checking method of fractional-order linear time invariant interval uncertain system. This paper continues the authors’ previous work (Chen et al., 2005a) where matrix perturbation theory was used. For the new robust stability checking, Lyapunov inequality is utilized for finding the maximum eigenvalue of a Hermitian matrix. Through numerical examples, the usefulness and the effectiveness of the newly proposed method are verified.

This paper is concerned with the problem of robust filtering for uncertain linear discrete-time descriptor systems. The matrices of the system state-space model are uncertain and supposed to belong to a given polytope. A linear matrix inequality based method is proposed for designing linear stationary strictly proper filters, for the one-step prediction, that guarantee the asymptotic stability of the estimation error and an optimized upper-bound on the asymptotic error variance, irrespective of the parameter uncertainty. The proposed robust filter design is based on a parameter-dependent Lyapunov function.
