This paper focuses on the performance of equalizer zero-determinant (ZD) strategies in discounted repeated Stackerberg asymmetric games. In the leader-follower adversarial scenario, the strong Stackelberg equilibrium (SSE) deriving from the opponents’ best response (BR), is technically the optimal strategy for the leader. However, computing an SSE strategy may be difficult since it needs to solve a mixed-integer program and has exponential complexity in the number of states. To this end, we propose to adopt an equalizer ZD strategy, which can unilaterally restrict the opponent’s expected utility. We first study the existence of an equalizer ZD strategy with one-to-one situations, and analyze an upper bound of its performance with the baseline SSE strategy. Then we turn to multi-player models, where there exists one player adopting an equalizer ZD strategy. We give bounds of the sum of opponents’ utilities, and compare it with the SSE strategy. Finally, we give simulations on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the moving target defense (MTD) to verify the effectiveness of our approach. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Miniaturized autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are an emerging and trending topic. With their form factor as big as the palm of one hand, they can reach spots otherwise inaccessible to bigger robots and safely operate in human surroundings. The simple electronics aboard such robots (sub-100 mW) make them particularly cheap and attractive but pose significant challenges in enabling onboard sophisticated intelligence. In this work, we leverage a novel neural architecture search (NAS) technique to automatically identify several Pareto-optimal convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for a visual pose estimation task. Our work demonstrates how reallife and field-tested robotics applications can concretely leverage NAS technologies to automatically and efficiently optimize CNNs for the specific hardware constraints of small UAVs. We deploy several NAS-optimized CNNs and run them in closed-loop aboard a 27-g Crazyflie nano-UAV equipped with a parallel ultra-low power System-on-Chip. Our results improve the State-of-the-Art by reducing the in-field control error of 32% while achieving a real-time onboard inference-rate of ~10Hz@10mW and ~50Hz@90mW.

This paper proposes an observer-based formation tracking control approach for multi-vehicle systems with second-order motion dynamics, assuming that vehicles’ relative or global position and velocity measurements are unavailable. It is assumed that all vehicles are equipped with sensors capable of sensing the bearings relative to neighboring vehicles and only one leader vehicle has access to its global position. Each vehicle estimates its absolute position and velocity using relative bearing measurements and the estimates of neighboring vehicles received over a communication network. A distributed observer-based controller is designed, relying only on bearing and acceleration measurements. This work further explores the concept of the Bearing Persistently Exciting (BPE) formation by proposing new algorithms for bearing-based localization and state estimation of second-order systems in centralized and decentralized manners. It also examines conditions on the desired formation to guarantee the exponential stability of distributed observer-based formation tracking controllers. In support of our theoretical results, some simulation results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed observers as well as the observer-based tracking controllers.

The paper considers continuous-time networked susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS) diseases spreading over a population. Each agent represents a sub-population and has its own healing rate and infection rate;the state of the agent at a time instant denotes what fraction of the said sub-population is infected with the disease at the said time instant. By taking account of the changes in behaviors of the agents in response to the infection rates in real-time, our goal is to devise a feedback strategy such that the infection level for each agent strictly stays below a pre-specified value. Furthermore, we are also interested in ensuring that the closed-loop system converges either to the disease-free equilibrium or, when it exists, to the endemic equilibrium. The upshot of devising such a strategy is that it allows health administration officials to ensure that there is sufficient capacity in the healthcare system to treat the most severe cases. The number of manufacturing jobs has been consistently increasing thanks to the rapidly evolving landscape and the newly adopted strategic plan of US manufacturing. However, there have been rising concerns in recent years about the problem-solving skills of engineering students, who will soon become the next generation of the US workforce. Such circumstances call for systematic evaluation and a better understanding of engineering students’ problem-solving. This paper builds a virtual reality (VR)-based manufacturing environment and adopts a data-driven analytical workflow to evaluate engineering students’ problem-solving performance. Specifically, students perform assembly tasks to produce car toys that satisfy the pre-defined requirements within the VR craft-production manufacturing system. We collect in situ eye-tracking data containing spatial-temporal dynamics of eye movements and abstract their latent features via a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based supervised representation learning for problem-solving performance evaluation. This work outperforms the traditional performance metrics-based evaluation by incorporating the nonlinear dynamics summarized from the in situ production process. Experimental results show that learned feature representations provide significantly more distinguishable patterns when categorizing the students’ problem-solving performance than traditional performance metrics. The proposed evaluation workflow has a broader impact on facilitating the problem-solving assessment across a wide range of manufacturing systems and worker training programs. © 2024, The Authors. Part-of-speech tagging is the process of assigning words in a given text to appropriate parts-of speech in order to reduce the disambiguation which may arise depending on the contextual usage of the words. In this paper, the problem of word sense disambiguation in Azerbaijani language is addressed by applying part of speech tagging on two varying data corpora, misspelled, and edited (clean) text using 3 different machine learning algorithms: Hidden Markov Model, Long Short-Term Memory, and Conditional Random Fields. The comparative analysis on the outcomes of the mentioned algorithms and their accuracy scores were analysed in the paper. The misspelled dataset for the experiments is provided by Unibank from their chatbot dialogues while the clean textual data was retrieved from the books and newspapers in Azerbaijani. The experiments showed that the Bidirectional LSTM has the highest accuracy scores for both edited (98.2%) and noisy (96.2%) data corpora. Suggested models can be used in the application of algorithms focuses on part of speech tags and syntactic structure of Azerbaijani language which is an agglutinative language belonging to Turkic languages family, thus enabling the research to be further investigated in other agglutinative languages with similar grammatical structure. © 2022 ACM.

This paper introduces a "green" routing game between multiple logistic operators (players), each owning a mixed fleet of internal combustion engine vehicle (ICEV) and electric vehicle (EV) trucks. Each player faces the cost of delayed delivery (due to charging requirements of EVs) and a pollution cost levied on the ICEVs. This cost structure models: 1) limited battery capacity of EVs and their charging requirement;2) shared nature of charging facilities;3) pollution cost levied by regulatory agency on the use of ICEVs. We characterize Nash equilibria of this game and derive a condition for its uniqueness. We also use the gradient projection method to compute this equilibrium in a distributed manner. Our equilibrium analysis is useful to analyze the trade-off faced by players in incurring higher delay due to congestion at charging locations when the share of EVs increases versus a higher pollution cost when the share of ICEVs increases. A numerical example suggests that to increase marginal pollution cost can dramatically reduce inefficiency of equilibria. © 2022, CC BY-NC-ND.

Scaled Relative Graphs (SRGs) provide a novel graphical frequency domain method for the analysis of nonlinear systems. In this paper, we use the restriction of the SRG to particular input spaces to compute frequency-dependent gain bounds for incrementally stable nonlinear systems. This leads to a nonlinear (NL) generalization of the Bode diagram, where the sinusoidal, harmonic, and subharmonic inputs are considered separately. When applied to the analysis of the NL loop transfer and sensitivity, we define a notion of bandwidth for both the open-loop and closed-loop, compatible with the LTI definitions. We illustrate the power of our method on the analysis of a DC motor with a parasitic nonlinearity, verifying our results in simulations. © 2025, CC BY.

The paper considers the importance of expanding the possibilities of environmental monitoring of environmental air parameters in the event of man-made emergencies. Software and hardware solutions have been developed for visualization and analysis of data from public environmental monitoring systems in normal and emergency situations using Power BI and Vaisala devices. The integration of various subsystems for measuring atmospheric air and microclimate indicators in a single computer system with a single software interface was carried out. © 2022 IEEE.
