AutoTrans: A Complete Planning and control Framework for Autonomous UAV Payload Transportation

The robotics community is increasingly interested in autonomous aerial transportation. Unmanned aerial vehicles with suspended payloads have advantages over other systems, including mechanical simplicity and agility, but pose great challenges in planning and control. To realize fully autonomous aerial transportation, this paper presents a systematic solution to address these difficulties. First, we present a real-time planning method that generates smooth trajectories considering the time-varying shape and non-linear dynamics of the system, ensuring whole-body safety and dynamic feasibility. Additionally, an adaptive NMPC with a hierarchical disturbance compensation strategy is designed to overcome unknown external perturbations and inaccurate model parameters. Extensive experiments show that our method is capable of generating high-quality trajectories online, even in highly constrained environments, and tracking aggressive flight trajectories accurately, even under significant uncertainty. In this paper, we consider the distributed adaptive fault-tolerant output regulation problem for heterogeneous multiagent systems with matched system uncertainties and mismatched coupling uncertainties among subsystems under the influence of actuator faults. First, distributed finite-time observers are proposed for all subsystems to observe the state of the exosystem. Then, a novel fault-tolerant controller is designed to compensate for the influence of matched system uncertainties and actuator faults. By using the linear matrix inequality technique, a sufficient condition is provided to guarantee the solvability of the considered problem in the presence of mismatched coupling uncertainties. Moreover, it is shown that the system in closed-loop with the developed controller can achieve output regulation by using the Lyapunov stability theory and cyclic-small-gain ***, a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained result.

Energy-efficient machine learning models that can run directly on edge devices are of great interest in IoT applications, as they can reduce network pressure and response latency, and improve privacy. An effective way to obtain energy-efficiency with small accuracy drops is to sequentially execute a set of increasingly complex models, early-stopping the procedure for "easy" inputs that can be confidently classified by the smallest models. As a stopping criterion, current methods employ a single threshold on the output probabilities produced by each model. In this work, we show that such a criterion is sub-optimal for datasets that include classes of different complexity, and we demonstrate a more general approach based on per-classes thresholds. With experiments on a low-power end-node, we show that our method can significantly reduce the energy consumption compared to the single-threshold approach. © 2022, CC BY.

Swarm-based techniques, a form of meta-heuristic techniques, are derived from the swarm system's social conduct in nature. A newly brought optimization algorithm is Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO) that is stimulated through looking conduct of Harris Hawks (agents) of finding food (optimal solution). Balancing between exploitative and exploratory processes of the original HHO algorithm is desirable for achieving better performance to many optimization problems. An algorithm, Chaotic Harris Hawks Optimization (CHHO), is proposed in this work for the unconstrained function optimization. The CHHO algorithm is presented based on adjusting the exploration mechanism of the original HHO algorithm. Ten chaotic maps are used to control this mechanism instead of random adjusting. The unimodal, multimodal, and multimodal based fixed-dimension benchmark functions are used to compare the CHHO algorithm with the HHO algorithm. Visibility of the CHHO algorithm for optimizing the unconstrained benchmark function, with the intelligible effect of the Gauss and Logistic chaotic maps over other maps, is shown in the experiments. © 2020 IEEE.

Autonomous UAV path planning for 3D reconstruction has been actively studied in various applications for high-quality 3D models. However, most existing works have adopted explore-then-exploit, prior-based or exploration-based strategies, demonstrating inefficiency with repeated flight and low autonomy. In this paper, we propose PredRecon, a prediction-boosted planning framework that can autonomously generate paths for high 3D reconstruction quality. We obtain inspiration from humans can roughly infer the complete construction structure from partial observation. Hence, we devise a surface prediction module (SPM) to predict the coarse complete surfaces of the target from the current partial reconstruction. Then, the uncovered surfaces are produced by online volumetric mapping waiting for observation by UAV. Lastly, a hierarchical planner plans motions for 3D reconstruction, which sequentially finds efficient global coverage paths, plans local paths for maximizing the performance of Multi-View Stereo (MVS), and generates smooth trajectories for image-pose pairs acquisition. We conduct benchmarks in the realistic simulator, which validates the performance of PredRecon compared with the classical and state-of-the-art methods. There is no doubt about the urgency of ensuring trust in e-voting systems since elections without trust cannot be acceptable in a democratic society. To solve this problem, it was proposed to use blockchain technology, however, in voting systems this leads to significant delays in the execution of transactions, and the software solution is accessible only to a narrow circle of specialists, which clearly does not help to show confidence on the part of voters. This paper proposes a different approach, which is based on the widely available verification of all means and processes that may cause distrust in the accuracy of the vote count or in ensuring their confidentiality. We offer a solution to the problem of transparency of all hardware and software that cause distrust. Voting systems that use this approach are implemented in three leading Ukrainian universities for student elections to self-government bodies. The conceptual model of the e-voting system for state elections on the example of Ukraine is presented. Links to Internet resources are provided where you can not only get acquainted with the principles of building the system, but also conduct an experimental vote in Ukrainian, English or Russian. This paper considers distributed optimization for minimizing the average of local nonconvex cost functions, by using local information exchange over undirected communication networks. To reduce the required communication capacity, we introduce an encoder–decoder scheme. By integrating it with distributed gradient tracking and proportional integral algorithms, respectively, we then propose two quantized distributed nonconvex optimization algorithms. Assuming the global cost function satisfies the Polyak–Lojasiewicz condition, which does not require the global cost function to be convex and the global minimizer is not necessarily unique, we show that our proposed algorithms linearly converge to a global optimal point. Moreover, we show that a low data rate is sufficient to guarantee linear convergence when the algorithm parameters are properly chosen. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

In the process of steel plate production, predicting the plate shape is of great significance for producing high-quality and consistently stable plate shapes. This paper presents a model that predicts both the defect types and flatness of the plate, providing theoretical support for setting process parameters in roller quenching production. First, the parameters of the quenching process are analyzed to identify their characteristics. Then, the K-Means clustering algorithm and correlation analysis are employed to process the quenching process parameters. A gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) model is used to predict the defect types and flatness of the steel plates. Finally, industrial production data is utilized for experimental validation. The obtained experimental results verify the reliability of the proposed method.

Performance comparison of discrete-time robust adaptive controllers for grid-tied power converters under unbalanced grids

Renewable energy generation systems largely use grid-tied power converters with LCL filters. A well-known issue in this kind of system is the resonance of the LCL filter, whose frequency is straightforwardly affected by grid condition. Variations on grid impedance tends to make the controller performance poor and until turn the closed-loop unstable. Therefore, some controllers are designed for specific operation ranges to ensure performance and global stability. However, a deep study of Model Reference Adaptive-based controllers for this kind of issue was not conducted yet. The aim of this paper is to fit this research gap. Thus, this paper presents a performance comparison of feasible discrete-time robust adaptive controllers, based on reduced order reference model, for grid-tied power converters with LCL filter under unbalanced grid conditions, providing an assessment of the benefits and drawbacks of each considered control strategy. The evaluated control laws are: Robust Model Reference Adaptive controller, Robust Model Reference-based Adaptive Super-Twisting Sliding Mode controller, Robust Adaptive One Sample Ahead Preview controller, and Robust Adaptive Proportional-Integral controller. Through performance comparison, it can be defined what controller is more adequate in face of grid condition, taking into consideration grid-injected currents quality and design complexity of controller. Experimental results of grid-injected current control of a grid-tied 5.8 kW Voltage-Source Inverter with LCL filter considering relevant grid voltage unbalance are presented to corroborate the controllers’ performance and discuss their reference tracking response, robustness to the parametric variation, exogenous disturbance rejection, parameters adaptability, and global stability.
