Teamwork is crucial in software engineering. However, recent literature concludes that software engineering graduates have underdeveloped teamwork skills. Instructors wishing to develop teamwork skills are faced with many teamwork models and a lack of empirical studies that examine their utility in higher education. We conducted an exploratory study to examine teamwork components of attitudinal, behavioral, and cognitive psychological facets (collectively called ABCs) in eight undergraduate software engineering teams composed of 14 to 17 members. We answered two research questions: Which teamwork components were the least developed at the beginning of the project, and Which teamwork components remained underdeveloped by the end of the project. For each team, we conducted two focus group discussions, and analyzed four sprint retrospective reports during the semester. We synthesize the gathered data to define each team by the presence of teamwork components, development of teamwork components, experienced challenges, average course grades, and project results. Teamwork components that were initially underdeveloped were Mutual performance monitoring, Shared cognitions, Leadership, Communication, Psychological safety and Trust. Two teamwork components that remained underdeveloped were Shared cognitions and Mutual performance monitoring. The answer to our first question highlights teamwork components that instructors should pay attention to in their teamwork-oriented courses. For the second question, we explain the mechanisms that we applied to develop teamwork components and highlight which components were the most challenging to develop, as well as in which period instructors should provide the most support to students. engineering education researchers might benefit from our methodological design, measurement instruments, and raw data to conduct studies in their contexts.

The book introduces novel algorithms for designing fault-tolerant control (FTC) systems using the behavioral system theoretic approach, and presents a demonstration of successful novel FTC mechanisms on several benchmark examples. The authors also discuss a new transient management scheme, which is an essential requirement for the implementation of active FTC systems, and two data-driven methodologies that are broadly classified as active FTC systems: the projection-based approach and the online-redesign approach. These algorithms do not require much a priori information about the plant in real-time, and in addition this novel implementation of active FTC systems circumvents various weaknesses induced by using a diagnostic module in real-time. Task planning and scheduling are crucial for construction or fabrication (CF) processes. Automating them is necessary for more efficient plans in terms of time and resources. However, most construction planning processes are still performed manually despite the existence of various AI methods. Symbolic AI automated task planning (ATP) techniques offer a variety of features to tackle task planning problems, but their application to CF has not been researched yet. This study identifies the current state of research and gaps in the literature regarding these AI techniques while providing directions for future research. We conduct a systematic review that evaluates existing literature on ATP in terms of environmental characteristics, modeling languages, ATP techniques, and results. We searched the ACM, IEEE, Scopus, WOS, and SpringerLink databases for papers published in the last 20 years (2002-2022) that discuss symbolic AI methods used in task planning within the CF fields. Our findings indicate that research on automated planning is currently limited regarding the characteristics of CF environments. Only a few papers have utilized symbolic languages, AI planners, and ATP techniques. No paper has evaluated their planning system in an on-site CF process. As a result, many symbolic languages, planners, and ATP techniques remain unexplored.
