This paper demonstrates the implementation of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) in type 1 fuzzy inference system (FIS) for intravenous anesthesia control. A novel fixed to floating point conversion algorithm is proposed, and used in the implementation of floating point division in type 1 FIS. In our fuzzy rule based system, there are three input parameters described in various linguistic terms as the antecedent, which after aggegation, results into depth of anesthesia as the consequence in a fuzzy controller for closed loop control of intravenous anesthesia occupies 2586 slices of Xilinxs Spartan 3E FPGA.

Many cooperative tasks in real world environments need the robots to maintain some desired formations when moving. Formation control refers to the problem of controlling the relative position and orientation of robots in a group, while allowing the group to move as a whole. In this paper, a novel leader-follower formation control law for multiple non-holonomic mobile robots based on kinematic models and trajectory tracking techniques is proposed.

Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has attracted substantial research effort over the past decade. In service-based systems, where multiple services providing the same functionality are available, it is necessary to select the appropriate services to be used in service composition to provide better quality of service (QoS) for service consumers. In order to select the best service composition for concurrent service requests, we present an adaptive control strategy which performs service selection based on the historical usage information of all the candidate services. A case study of a data stream management system is presented to validate the effectiveness of the adaptive control strategy, and examine the effect of the concurrency level on the process of the strategy's decision.

The contribution presents a new software with a graphical user interface facilitating the diagnostics of granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA) using computed tomography (CT) image analysis. GPA represents a serious disease that can be efficiently diagnosed, using CT image processing methods. Standard software packages enable the CT image visualization supplemented by some rather restricted interactive tools only (zoom, rotation, distance or angle measurements etc.) but provide no automatic analysis. Therefore, we have introduced a new software with semi-automatic or automatic analysis.

This paper deals with the finite-horizon estimation of randomly occurring faults for a class of linear discrete time-varying systems. All the system parameters are time-varying and the failures are assumed to occur in a random way, and two sets of Bernoulli distributed white sequences are introduced to govern the failures probability. By using the completing squares method and stochastic analysis techniques, necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the finite-horizon Hoo fault estimator are derived, and then the time-varying fault estimator parameters are obtained by solving coupled backward recursive Riccati difference equations (RDEs). A simulation example is utilized to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed fault estimation method. © 2013 Chinese Automation and computing Society in the UK - CACS.

In this paper, the H∞ state estimation problem is investigated for a class of stochastic systems with the simultaneous presence of fading measurements and randomly varying nonlinearities (RVNs). A sequence of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution is utilized to govern RVNs. The Rice fading model, simultaneously, is employed to describe the phenomena of channel fadings by setting different values of the channel coefficients. The purpose of this paper is to design an H∞ state estimator such that the augmented system is stochastically stable and the disturbance rejection attenuation is constrained to a given level by means of the H ∞-performance index. In terms of stochastic analysis methods, sufficient conditions are established under which the addressed state estimation problem is recast as solving a convex optimization problem via the semi-definite programme method. Finally, a simulation example is employed to show the usefulness of the proposed design scheme. © 2013 Chinese Automation and computing Society in the UK - CACS.

Wind power production in Adriatic wind conditions, especially in Croatian control Area, is extremely dependent on variable wind conditions and therefore very unpredictable. Accurate wind power forecasting is important to ensure safe power system operation and safe electricity supply. Special attention has been paid to application of extreme value theory in defining, evaluating and measuring risk of wind power forecasting and therefore risk of safe power system planning, operation and control.

This work is motivated by the problem of synthesizing mode sequences for continuous-time polynomial switched systems in order to guarantee that the trajectories of the system satisfy certain high-level specifications expressed in linear temporal logic. We use augmented finite transition systems as abstract models of continuous switched systems. Augmented finite transition systems are equipped with liveness properties that can be used to enforce progress in accordance with the underlying dynamics. We then introduce abstraction and refinement relations that induce a preorder on this class of finite transition systems. By construction, the resulting preorder respects the feasibility (i.e., realizability) of the synthesis problem. Hence, existence of a discrete switching strategy for one of these abstract finite transition systems guarantees the existence of a mode sequence for the continuous system such that all of its trajectories satisfy the specification. We also present an algorithm, which can be implemented using sum-of-squares based relaxations, to compute such high fidelity abstract models in a computationally tractable way. Finally, these ideas are illustrated on an example.

Distributed computer systems of microcontrollers with environmental sensors, known as wireless sensor networks, allow real time monitoring of complex events. Over the last ten years this technology is slowly being applied in many areas such as: agriculture, environmental monitoring and urban planning. However, the technology has yet to see a strong commercial application because of a: lack of universal norms, short lifetime cycle and security concerns. This paper will describe the basic characteristics of a wireless sensor network, followed by a list of different types of security problems that wireless sensor networks face. For each problem, a recommended method for improving security is given, along with all the downsides of such a method. After reviewing the current state of the technology we will propose a new method to improve security and intruder detection for certain types of networks. © 2012 MIPRO.
