In this paper, it is applied a method for parameter estimation of ship linear maneuvering models with a standard zig-zag maneuver. The parameter estimation is made based on prediction error methods, using the Kalman filter for the states estimation. It is suggested two cases of study: one in simulation and another one with data acquired in open waters. Thus, it is posible to quantify the statistical properties of the estimator by means of Monte Carlo simulation and to validate the model with simulated and acquired data.

RSS feeds provide a fast and effective way to publish up-to-date information or renew outdated contents for information subscribers. So far RSS information is mostly managed by content publishers but Internet users have less initiative to choose what they really need. More attention needs to be paid on techniques for user-initiative information discovery from RSS feeds. In this paper, a quantitative semantic matchmaking method for the RSS based applications is proposed. Semantic information is extracted from an RSS feed as numerical vectors and semantic matching can then be conducted quantitatively. Ontology is applied to provide a common-agreed matching basis for the quantitative matchmaking. In order to avoid semantic ambiguity of literal statements from distributed and heterogeneous RSS publishers, fuzzy inference is used to transform an individual-dependent vector into an individual-independent vector. Semantic similarities can be revealed as the result.

A cognitive collaborative multi-agent control architecture that addresses real-world control problems for swarms of mobile robots is proposed. The swarm's emergent behaviour is obtained by using a distributed Particle Swarm Optimization inspired algorithm. A swarm-user interface is also presented and offers a way for a human operator to interact with and guide the robotic swarm without limiting its emergent intelligence. The architecture is designed as a multi-agent system developed using JADE Framework. Three types of agents were defined: local behaviour agent, social behaviour agent and graphical user interface (GUI) agent. Each robot is associated with a pair of a local and a social behaviour agents which implement the reactive component and the interaction between the robots. The swarm forms a hierarchical structure composed of subswarms and neighbourhoods based on tasks and goals defined by the user or the swarm itself. The GUI agent is used as a link between the human expert and the swarm. The architecture was tested on a swarm of e-puck robots.

Presented paper deals with processing of electron-microscope images of Picea Abies stomas. A stoma character strongly depends on the level of air pollution in the area where the tree grows - as the stoma epidermis covers with epiticular waxes to protect itself against the negative environmental influences. According to the level of incrustation it is possible to distinguish five classes of stoma structure. An automatic algorithm recognizing a degree of stoma damage, based on the microscopic image processing can be useful during the process of environmental assessment. This work is devoted to a solution of the problem of stoma evaluation by means of texture classification. There are two principles discussed in the paper: The first principle is based on gradient methods while the second one uses a wavelet transform. Possibilities of application of mentioned attitudes were investigated and the classification criteria distinguishing the stoma character were suggested, as well. The resulting algorithm was verified on a library of four hundred real images and achieved results were compared with an expert's sensual classification. Selected methods of image preprocessing as noise reduction, brightness correction and resampling were used as well.

Problems of multi-dimensional signal enhancement, segmentation, feature extraction and components classification is essential in many engineering and biomedical applications. The paper is devoted to the use of watershed transform and wavelet transform for MR image components detection and discussion of over-segmentation problems. The goal of the paper is in (i) analysis of image de-noising, (ii) discussion of image enhancement, and (iii) multi-resolutional approach application for reduction of over-segmentation problems. Proposed algorithms include the use of wavelet transform and gradient methods in the preprocessing stage and application of the watershed transform for enhanced images. Resulting algorithms are verified for simulated images and applied for a selected MR biomedical images containing different structures.
