In this paper, the event-based finite-horizon filtering problem is investigated for discrete time-varying systems. For the purpose of reducing communication, a general event generator is employed to determine the event time instant and then transmit the measurement output to the remote time-varying filter. By utilizing the stochastic analysis techniques, sufficient conditions are derived for a finite-horizon filter to satisfy the prescribed H ∞ performance requirement. These conditions are expressed in terms of the feasibility of a series of recursive linear matrix inequalities. The effectiveness of the proposed filter design scheme is illustrated by a numerical simulation.

The ability to nondestructively detect the presence of a single, traveling photon has been a long-standing goal in optics, with applications in quantum information and measurement. Realizing such a detector is complicated by the fact that photon-photon interactions are typically very weak. At microwave frequencies, very strong effective photon-photon interactions in a waveguide have recently been demonstrated. Here we show how this type of interaction can be used to realize a quantum nondemolition measurement of a single propagating microwave photon. The scheme we propose uses a chain of solid-state three-level systems (transmons) cascaded through circulators which suppress photon backscattering. Our theoretical analysis shows that microwave-photon detection with fidelity around 90% can be realized with existing technologies.

This paper is concerned with the reliable guaranteed-cost control problem for a class of discrete nonlinear stochastic systems with actuator failures and fading performance *** stochastic nonlinearities described by statistical means could cover several types of well-studied stochastic ***,the phenomenon of fading performance output occurs in a random way and the fading probability is governed by a random variable satisfying a certain probability distribution with known conditional *** main purpose of this paper is to design a reliable controller,over a given finite-horizon,such that the optimized upper bound to the pre-deflned performance index is guaranteed for the addressed systems in the presence of actuator failures,stochastic nonlinearities and fading performance ***,a numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

In traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) diagnosis,a patient may be associated with more than one syndrome tags,and its computer-aided diagnosis is a typical application in the domain of multi-label learning of high-dimensional *** is common that a great deal of symptoms can occur in traditional Chinese medical diagnosis,which affects the modeling of diagnostic *** selection entails choosing the smallest feature subset of relevant symptoms,and maximizing the generalization performance of the *** present there are rare researches on feature selection on multi-label data.A hybrid optimization technique is introduced to symptom selection for multi-label data in TCM diagnosis in this paper,and modeling is made by means of four multi-label learning algorithms like k nearest neighbors,*** compare the performance of the algorithm with the current popular dimension reduction algorithms like MEFS(embedded feature selection for multi-Label learning),MDDM(multi-label dimensionality reduction via dependence maximization) on the UCI Yeast gene functional data set and an inquiry diagnosis dataset of coronary heart disease(CHD).Experimental results show that the algorithm we present has significantly improved the *** particular,the improvement on the average precision for the classifier is up to 10.62% and 14.54%.Syndrome inquiry modeling of CHD in TCM is realized in this paper,providing effective reference for the diagnosis of CHD and analysis of other multi-label data.

In this paper we present a comparative analysis of two algorithms for image representation with application to recognition of 3D face scans with the presence of facial expressions. We begin with processing of the input point cloud based on curvature analysis and range image representation to achieve a unique representation of the face features. Then, subspace projection using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) are performed. Finally classification with different classifiers will be performed. © 2013 IEEE.

This paper deals with the finite-horizon estimation of randomly occurring faults for a class of linear discrete time-varying systems. All the system parameters are time-varying and the failures are assumed to occur in a random way, and two sets of Bernoulli distributed white sequences are introduced to govern the failures probability. By using the completing squares method and stochastic analysis techniques, necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the finite-horizon Hoo fault estimator are derived, and then the time-varying fault estimator parameters are obtained by solving coupled backward recursive Riccati difference equations (RDEs). A simulation example is utilized to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed fault estimation method. © 2013 Chinese Automation and computing Society in the UK - CACS.

In this paper, the H∞ state estimation problem is investigated for a class of stochastic systems with the simultaneous presence of fading measurements and randomly varying nonlinearities (RVNs). A sequence of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution is utilized to govern RVNs. The Rice fading model, simultaneously, is employed to describe the phenomena of channel fadings by setting different values of the channel coefficients. The purpose of this paper is to design an H∞ state estimator such that the augmented system is stochastically stable and the disturbance rejection attenuation is constrained to a given level by means of the H ∞-performance index. In terms of stochastic analysis methods, sufficient conditions are established under which the addressed state estimation problem is recast as solving a convex optimization problem via the semi-definite programme method. Finally, a simulation example is employed to show the usefulness of the proposed design scheme. © 2013 Chinese Automation and computing Society in the UK - CACS.

Despite the growing number of videos featuring electronic cigarettes, there has been no investigation of the portrayal of these videos. This paper presents the first surveillance data of electronic cigarette videos on YouTube. Our results suggest that viewers are primarily being exposed to content promoting the use of these emerging tobacco products and the viewership is global. This study shows that it is critical to develop appropriate health campaigns to inform potential consumers of harms associated with electronic cigarette use. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
