In addition to simplicity, the DTC of the IM allows a good torque control in steady-state and transient operating conditions. However, high torque ripple is produced, which is reflected in speed estimation responses. It also increases acoustical noise and makes the voltage source inverter operated in high and variable switching frequency, requiring a high sampling frequency. In this paper, a simple effective ANN-based DTC of the induction machine is proposed. Neural networks with a simple architecture are designed and implemented in influential points of the direct torque control block of the three phase induction machine in order to improve its dynamic performance while preserving the DTC structure simplicity as much as possible. In particular, this paper proposes to reduce, on the one hand, the torque ripple and commutation frequency. Neural comparators are used to select the appropriate bandwidth for the torque and flux hysteresis controllers. Their aim is to optimize the ripple level in the developed torque and flux. On the other hand, a neural speed controller is designed in order to improve the system ability to respond rapidly to changes in process variables and mitigate the effects of external perturbations. The performance of the proposed control are tested in simulation and highlighted by comparing to the conventional DTC control based on conventional hysteresis comparators and conventional PI speed controller. The obtained results show the feasibility and good performances of the proposed control.

In this paper, an optimization based state feedback design is proposed for polynomial models that transforms an open-loop system into weakly reversible kinetic form with minimal deficiency, if possible. Therefore, the suggested method is able to decide whether the deficiency zero property and weak reversibility of the closed loop system (that guarantees a robust stability property) is achievable by the given feedback structure. The approach integrates feedback design and previous computational methods for computing dynamically equivalent realizations of kinetic systems. The method assumes a linear input structure of the open loop system, and uses a polynomial feedback constructed from the monomials of the original system possibly extended by new ones. The proposed method is illustrated on two simple examples.

Mobile interaction in adverse environments calls for highly optimized and tightly integrated user interfaces. Continuous variations in tasks and the context of use in mobile settings require adaptability and flexibility of the user interface components. Today, mobile systems largely rely on direct touch interaction, which is often unsuitable for adverse environments. A change of the input mechanism or modality usually requires additional hardware which has been designed and manufactured for the particular needs of the environment. The concept of Distributed Wearable User Interfaces provides a common conceptual and technical framework for the integration of loosely coupled and tightly integrated collaborating input and output devices. The devices are distributed on the user's body and form a consistent yet adaptable and flexible user interface for the mobile system. This paper introduces distributed wearable user interfaces as a flexible, adaptable and usable framework for mobile interaction based on the Zero Operational Inertia Device paradigm, and presents a case study in the domain of mobile industrial maintenance. © 2013 IADIS.

This paper is concerned with the identification problems of linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with randomly missing output data. Since one local linearized model cannot capture the global dynamics of the nonlinear industrial process, the multiple-model LPV model in which the global model is constructed by smoothly weighted combination of multiple local models is considered here. The problem of missing output variables data is commonly encountered in practice. In order to handle the multiple-model identification problems of LPV systems with incomplete data, the local model is taken to have a finite impulse response (FIR) model structure and the generalized expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is adopted to estimate the unknown parameters of the global LPV model. To avoid the problems of ill-conditioned matrices and high sensitivity of parameters to noise, the prior information on the coefficients of each local FIR model is employed to construct the prior probability of unknown parameters. Then the maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimates of the global model parameters are derived via the generalized EM algorithm. The numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The aim of this work is to present an entropy-like Lyapunov function based dynamic feedback design technique for quasi-polynomial and Lotka-Volterra systems. It is shown, that the dynamic feedback design problem is equivalent to the feasibility of a bilinear matrix inequality. The problem is also formulated as a control Lyapunov function based feedback design when the Lyapunov function parameters are given, the solution of this problem can be obtained by solving a linear matrix inequality. The developed method is illustrated on a simple numerical example. © IFAC.

The class of isotherm lumped process systems with constant overall mass in each of its balance volumes is considered in this paper. It is shown that the convection and transfer mechanisms can be described by a mass action law chemical reaction network (MAL CRN) with only linear kinetics where the in- and outflow terms are represented using the zero complex. This gives rise to a convection and transfer reaction sub-graph that connects atomic complexes consisting of the components in the balance volumes of the system. The real chemical reactions in each of the balance volumes can be described by their own CRNs, where the chemical reaction sub-graphs may be disconnected from the convection and transfer reaction sub-graph when nonlinear reactions occur. In the case of chemical reactions with a finite number of steady state points, the underlying linear dynamical system enables us to construct a dynamically similar linear overall reaction graph for the whole process system. The resulting overall reaction graph can be used for structural stability analysis by applying its graph theoretical properties. Copyright © 2013 IFAC.

This paper investigates the performance of a single-phase induction motor (SPIM) drive operated as two-phase motor (TPIM) and controlled basing on fuzzy logic (FL). Because of coupling behavior between fluxes in motor, it is still necessary to advance in controller tuning. The applied control strategy proposed in this paper is the vector control based on fuzzy controllers. The application of this control strategy to the single-phase motor operating as two-phase motor increases its dynamic performance and constitutes a contribution to the study of this machine. Indeed, this type of machine has not yet taken its whole share from various works present until now, compared to the three-phase induction machine. The performances of the proposed control;applied to the single-phase induction motor supplied by voltage source inverter;are investigated by simulations under different operating conditions. The obtained results;compared to the traditional control method based on conventional controllers (CC);show the effectiveness and stronger robustness of the control system. © 2013 IEEE.

The quality of a model determines the closed loop performance of model predictive controllers. However, identification of high quality multivariable models is a time and energy intensive exercise. The industrial model predictive controllers are designed using large dimensional multivariable models and they are often identified using ad-hoc single input bump tests. A novel multivariable input design approach is developed using a modified model predictive control objective function. It is shown that the proposed input design approach is trace optimal with respect to the covariance of model parameters. The approach is shown to work well in closed loop on both well and ill-conditioned processes even under model-plant mismatch while meeting input and output constraints. © IFAC.

This paper investigates the setpoints compensation for a class of complex industrial processes. Plants at the device layer are controlled by the local regulation controllers, and a multirate output feedback control approach for setpoint compensation is proposed such that the subsystems can reach the dynamically changed setpoints and the given economic objective can also be tracked via certain economic performance index (EPI). First, a sampled-data multivariable direct output feedback proportional integral (PI) controller is designed to regulate the performance of the subsystems. Second, the outputs and control inputs of the plants at the device layer are sampled at operation layer sampling time to form an EPI. Thus the multirate problem is solved by a lifting method. Third, static setpoints are generated by real time optimization (RTO) and the dynamic setpoints are calculated by the compensator according to the error between the EPI and objective at each operation layer step. Finally, a rougher flotation process model is employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
