Thread migration is an effective technique for fault resilience and load balancing in high performance computing. However, flexible thread migration is not easy to achieve. In this paper, we present an approach to creating migratory threads dynamically at application level. The targets must be executable source files. Compared to the static ones, the number of threads created during migration with the new scheme is independent from the context. Various thread cases are considered for migration. Thread state is handled at application level. Variables are saved in structures in C language for speedy state construction. In order to solve the inability of traditional methods in tracking the created threads, a tree of active function calls is used to record the callback. The preprocessor of the proposed one is written in YACC for accuracy and programmability. The migration enabling process is transparent to programmers with the help of the preprocess. The experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach. © 2010 IEEE.

Matchmaking is the basis of service discovery and composition. Using ontology semantically express the capabilities of services, accurately match, discovery and composition service. Domain ontologies and Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) aim at modeling concepts, the role of FCA in ontology engineering is supporting the critical task of reusing independently developed domain ontologies. Evaluating concept similarity identifies the different concepts that are semantically close. In this paper, using concept and attribute of Web services to construct the ontology. Also, an ontology-based method for assessing similarity between FCA concepts is proposed. Such a method is intended to support the ontology engineer in difficult activities such as ontology merging and ontology mapping in the development of the Semantic Web. © 2010 IEEE.

As networked embedded sensors and actuators become more and more widespread, software developers encounter the difficulty to create applications that run distributed on these nodes: Typically, these nodes are heterogeneous, resource-limited, and there is no centralized control. The Ambicomp project tackles this problem. Its goal is to provide a distributed Java Virtual Machine (VM) that runs on the bare sensor node hardware. This VM creates a single system illusion across several nodes. Objects and threads can migrate freely between these nodes. In this paper, we address the problem of globally accessible objects. We describe how scalable source routing, a DHT-inspired routing protocol, can be used to allow access to objects regardless of their respective physical location and without any centralized component. © 2008 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a timing synchronization scheme of the next generation IEEE 802.11n wireless LAN standard which is based on MIMO-OFDM technique. The proposed timing synchronization method takes two steps which consist of two modified auto-correlators. For coarse timing synchronization, a sliding window differentiator is used after a conventional auto-correlation in order to avoid plateau problem. The conjugate symmetry property of L-LTS is used for fine timing synchronization. Since cross-correlation based methods are not required, the computational complexity and the number of multiplier can be reduced. In order to reduce the hardware complexity, we have used sign comparators (SC) instead of using multipliers. Based on simulation results, the proposed method outperforms a conventional method. The proposed scheme can be applied to IEEE 802.11n systems and can easily be expanded to frequency synchronization scheme. ©2008 IEEE.

We present novel concepts, technologies and potentials of optical data communication, especially for future computer architectures. The WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) and the optical wiring technologies are explained in detail. Experimental results of tunable optical filters, which play a major role in WDM systems, are reported. New concepts for novel optical interconnectors and novel miniaturized lasers for direct generation of green light are proposed as examples for possible next generation components to improve the performance of optical communication based computer architecture. © 2007 IEEE.

A current challenge for computer users is to fully exploit performance of new Multicore systems. We propose a methodology for students in computational science to analyze the effect of memory hierarchy on application performance. The analysis is proposed in a experimental environment consisting of different systems with different configurations of memory hierarchy. New Multicore systems put tremendous pressure on memory hierarchy systems. The pressure is because, unfortunately, the effectiveness of the computing power offered by Multicore is affected by the data communications inter-chip and off-chip to the memory hierarchy, leading to significant problems in performance for many parallel applications. In the scope of computer science, it is important that students understand these problems. This methodology was successfully applied to students, where they acquired a significant improvement in their parallel application metrics assessment as was demonstrated in our evaluation.

ISS (Instruction Set Simulator) plays an important role in pre-silicon software development for ASIP. However, the speed of traditional simulation is too slow to effectively support full-scale software development. In this paper, we propose a hybrid simulation framework which further improves the previous simulation methods by aggressively utilizing the host machine resources. The utilization is achieved by categorizing instructions of ASIP application into two types, namely custom and basic instructions, via binary instrumentation. Then in a way of hybrid simulation, only custom instructions are simulated on the ISS and basic instructions are executed fast and natively on the host machine. We implement this framework for an industrial ASIP to validate our approach. Experimental results show that when the implemented ISS, namely GS-Sim, is applied to practical multimedia decoders, an average simulation speed up to 1058.5MIPS can be achieved, which is 34.7 times of the state-of-art dynamic binary translation simulator and is the fastest to the best of our knowledge. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper aims to develop a sensor based monitoring and analyzing system for Neuro-Degenerative Disorder patients (NDD);this may consist on SpO2 sensor, Electrophysiological sensors, NIBP, Motion Capture sensors and Eye Monitoring sensor, taking into consideration an acceptable cost for the whole system. Recorded data will be sent to an embedded decision making unit where detection, analysis, classification, prediction and action control will occur. The sensors and the decision making unit will be implemented in a comfortable jacket that doesn't affect the patients' movements and that can be used by several patients with reduced sensor placement alterations. The decision that can be made is creating a stimulus to avoid falling in case of sudden stop while moving, initiating an alarm, sending a notification to a mobile phone application, and/or telemedicine monitoring features. Artificial Neural Networks will be used to classify and predict the abnormal cases where action should be taken, and since the sensors will be continuously recording, it is possible to achieve continuous learning for the ANN as a first phase. Initial models will be defined by testing normal behaviors and some known abnormal behaviors or symptoms related to the electrical activity and other characteristics of the heart, oxygen saturation level, eye activity and body motion. © 2016 IEEE.

As more and more Web applications emerging on sever end today, the Web browser on client end has become a host of a variety of applications other than just rendering static Web pages. This leads to more and more performance requirements of a Web browser, for which user experience is very important. This situation may become more urgency when on handheld devices. Some efforts like redesign a new Web browser have been made to overcome this problem. In this paper, we address this issue by optimizing the main processes of the Web browser on a state-of-the-art 64-core architecture, Godson-T, which was developed at Chinese Academy of Sciences, as multi-/many-core architecture to be the mainstream processor in the upcoming years. We start a new core to process a new tab when facing up to intensive URL requests, and we use scratch-pad memory (SPM) of each core as a local buffer to store the HTML source data to be processed to reduce off-chip memory access and exploit more data locality, otherwise, we use DTA to transfer HTML data for backup. Experiments conducted on the cycle-accurate simulator show that, starting each tab process by a new core could obtain 5.7% to 50% speedup with different number of cores used to process corresponding URL requests, with onchip scratchpad memory of each core used to store the HTML data, more speedup could be achieved when number of cores increase. Also, as Data Transfer Agent (DTA) used to transfer the HTML data, the backup of HTML data can get 2X to 5X speedups according to different data amount. © 2011 IEEE.

The software reliability plays an important role nowadays. From year to year the systems become more and more complex. Consequently, the software becomes more and more complex, too and this can cause more software errors. In this paper a new method is introduced, which serves to predict the reliability of software in a better way. Furthermore, the presumption that the hazard rate is constant is rebutted and a more realistic assumption is made. It is demonstrated that by the use of the new approach the prediction of the number of remaining errors is possible in a better way.
