Chemical environment adaptive learning for optical band gap prediction of doped graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets

This study presents a new machine learning algorithm, named Chemical Environment Graph Neural Network (ChemGNN), designed to accelerate materials property prediction and advance new materials discovery. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and its doped variants have gained significant interest for their potential as optical materials. Accurate prediction of their band gaps is crucial for practical applications;however, traditional quantum simulation methods are computationally expensive and challenging to explore the vast space of possible doped molecular structures. The proposed ChemGNN leverages the learning ability of current graph neural networks (GNNs) to satisfactorily capture the characteristics of atoms' chemical environment underlying complex molecular structures. Our experimental results demonstrate more than 100% improvement in band gap prediction accuracy over existing GNNs on g-C3N4. Furthermore, the general ChemGNN model can precisely foresee band gaps of various doped g-C3N4 structures, making it a valuable tool for performing high-throughput prediction in materials design and development. © The Author(s) 2024.

Vehicle platooning is a cooperative driving technology that can be supported by 5G enhanced Vehicle-to-Everything (eV2X) communication to improve road safety, traffic efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption. eV2X communication among the platoon vehicles involves the periodic transmission of Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAMs) containing vehicle information under strict latency and reliability requirements. These requirements can be maintained by administering the assignment of resources, in terms of time slots and frequency bands, for CAM transmission in a platoon, with the help of a resource allocation mechanism. State-of-the-art on control and communication design for vehicle platoons either consider a simplified platoon model with a detailed communication architecture or consider a simplified communication delay model with a detailed platoon control system. Departing from existing works, we have developed a comprehensive vehicle platoon communication and control framework using OMNET + +, the benchmarking network simulation tool. We have carried out an inclusive and comparative study of three different platoon Information Flow Topologies (IFTs), namely Car-to-Server, Multi-Hop, and One-Hop over 5G using the Predecessor-Leader Following platoon control law to arrive at the best-suited IFT for platooning. Secondly, for the best-suited 5G eV2X IFT, we have analyzed the performance of three different resource allocation algorithms, namely Maximum of Carrier to Interference Ratio (MaxC/I), Proportional Fair (PF), and Deficit Round Robin (DRR). Exhaustive system-level simulations show that the One-Hop information flow strategy along with the MaxC/I resource allocation yields the best Quality of Service (QoS) performance, in terms of latency, reliability, Age of Information (AoI), and throughput. © 2025 IEEE.

Utilizing the CAD system, which aids radiologists in various diagnostic procedures, a recent study has been conducted on the early identification of breast cancer. Next to lung cancer, breast cancer ranks among the most deadly diseases. Initially, detection is done based on screening tests done through Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), subsequently Infrared thermography, and digital mammography (DM). Whenever a suspicion is raised, these tests might be recommended by the specialist. Region-based segmentation is used for the test picture in this work, while NSCTS (Non-subsample Contourlet transform segmentation) is used for preprocessing. ResNet-164 DCNN architecture performs feature extraction and classification between normal and aberrant tumor pictures. The diagnosis system adopts the deep learning technology to increase its performance rate. The approach to prediction starts with screening test photos, then preprocessing to enhance the image quality, ROI detection, ROI segmentation, and classification. The resulting images are examined using a variety of evaluation measures, including performance rate, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. When compared to other recent work, the outcome is exceptional. The obtained accuracy, sensitivity of the proposed system is 98.58% and 98.78%. The application takes advantage of the MIAS mammography image dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Rate Outage Constrained Energy Efficiency Under MISO Interference Channels

This paper investigates the rate outage constrained (ROC) energy efficiency (EE) under multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channels, where only channel distribution information (CDI) is available at base stations (BSs). An EE maximization problem is formulated under the constraints of tolerable rate outage probability of each user and the power budget of each BS. Due to the computationally intractable form of the considered problem, two equivalent formulations are derived and four algorithms are proposed, where two are based on the block successive upper bound minimization (BSUM) method and the other two are based on the successive convex approximation (SCA) method. Further, the philosophies behind the BSUM-based algorithms and the SCA-based algorithms are analyzed. Numerical results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed algorithms, while the BSUM-based algorithms are much more computationally efficient than all the state-of-the-art algorithms, as long as all the coupling requirements on quality of service (like ROC transmission) can be fused into EE. Besides, the impacts of power budget, circuit power and tolerable outage probability on the ROC EE are revealed and discussed. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Due to a shortage of funding and other market challenges, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) face difficulties in adopting new technologies. Numerous technological obstacles negatively impact the long-term commercial achievement of SMEs. The deployment of Industry 4.0hopes to resolve these technological challenges. A sustainable city is a complex structure where economic, societal, and ecological components interact and compete. There is a scarcity of l methodologies for measuring interactions in this complex structure. Industry 4.0 aims to obtain higher performance effectiveness, profitability, and automation. The main goal is to develop a reliable method of evaluating small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adopting Industry 4.0 technologies, particularly concerning smart city applications. This paper aims to determine the influence of Industry 4.0 in fostering economic efficiency and sustainability amongst these SMEs. The study introduces a multi-criteria decision-making (SC-MCDM) system designed to test an SME’s achievement of their targeted sustainable developmental goals. A technique for computing the interaction between various standards, i.e., (static interactions and dynamical pattern resemblance), as well as the weightage of variables of every indicator generated by the connection, is included within SC-MCDM. Furthermore, applying the suggested technique is validated by assessing the sustainable development goals of twelve Chinese cities within the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) paradigm. From a geographic-temporal viewpoint, spatial variations in city sustainability reveal regional sustainable inequalities. Indicator scores suggest that the most significant factors for most communities are the lack of research spending, falling financing in stationary assets, shortage of financial development, and inadequate shared transit. Entanglement routing plays a vital role in quantum networks. Previous works on entanglement routing did not note that all-optical switching capacity can be used to improve the network throughput or ignored that the placement of Entangled Photon Sources (EPS), another type of precious (and costly) quantum source, which also limits the network throughput. In this paper, we propose OptEPS to jointly optimize all-optical switching and EPS placement in entanglement routing to maximize the quantum network throughput. The main challenge of OptEPS lies in two folds: i). an entanglement may fail to be created;ii). the joint optimization problem suffers from a large time complexity. To overcome these challenges, we first formulate the joint optimization problem as a link-path based model and prune out some candidate paths in order to reduce the time complexity. Then, efficient algorithms are proposed to derive a near-optimal solution in a timely manner. Extensive simulations show that compared with the solutions ignoring EPS placement or without introducing all-optical switching, OptEPS will increase the network throughput by 1557% and 109%, respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Federated learning (FL) allows multiple clients cooperatively train models without disclosing local data. However, the existing works fail to address all these practical concerns in FL: limited communication resources, dynamic network conditions and heterogeneous client properties, which slow down the convergence of FL. To tackle the above challenges, we propose a heterogeneity-aware FL framework, called FedCG, with adaptive client selection and gradient compression. Specifically, the parameter server (PS) selects a representative client subset considering statistical heterogeneity and sends the global model to them. After local training, these selected clients upload compressed model updates matching their capabilities to the PS for aggregation, which significantly alleviates the communication load and mitigates the straggler effect. We theoretically analyze the impact of both client selection and gradient compression on convergence performance. Guided by the derived convergence rate, we develop an iteration-based algorithm to jointly optimize client selection and compression ratio decision using submodular maximization and linear programming. Extensive experiments on both real-world prototypes and simulations show that FedCG can provide up to 5.3× speedup compared to other methods. © 2023 IEEE.

Kidney stone illness, one of the most common medical problems worldwide, relieves pain and drives people to the ER. Diagnoses often use imaging, but educated doctors must interpret them. computer-aided diagnostics (CAD) systems help doctors discover kidney stones more accurately. The suggested technique includes preprocessing, feature extraction, and model training. Ultrasound (US) image preprocessing includes restoration, smoothness, sharpness, and contrast enhancement. The Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrices (GLCM) analyze image texture to extract characteristics. Model training uses KELM. The KELM-based model outperforms Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and K-Nearest Neighbours (KNN) with an average accuracy of 92.54%. This accuracy demonstrates the method can detect kidney stones in ultrasound images. This proposed shows that computer-aided kidney stone detection can be fast and accurate. The combination of GLCM's texture analysis and KELM's classification skills can help medical professionals diagnose kidney stones using imaging. © 2024 IEEE.
