Harnessing the power of wind and waves for renewable energy production has become vital in the quest for sustainable electricity generation. The fusion of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines (FOWTs) and Oscillating Water Columns (OWCs) has introduced a groundbreaking concept of hybrid offshore platforms, offering immense potential for energy absorption, reduced dynamic response, load mitigation, and improved cost efficiency. The primary goals of this study revolve around two key objectives: (i) the development of a regression-based modeling technique for the hybrid aero-hydro-elastic-servo-mooring coupled numerical system, and (ii) the implementation of a customized fuzzy-based control mechanism to ensure platform stability. To achieve these objectives, computational Machine Learning (ML) tools, specifically Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), are utilized to replicate the behavior of the detailed numerical model of the FOWTs integrated with OWCs. Subsequently, a Fuzzy Logic control (FLC) scheme is employed to establish a structural controller that effectively mitigates unwanted vibrations. The experimental results confirm the potential of ANN-based modeling as a simpler yet effective alternative to complicated nonlinear NREL-5MW FOWT dynamical models. Furthermore, the use of the FLC system enhances platform stability in a variety of wind and wave conditions.

This paper deals with an intelligent decision-making strategy of energy management for a smart grid within an element storage in order to reduce the system cost and improve its reliability. Indeed, the integration of distributed energy storage devices allows the customers to store energy and reuse at a later time or delayed some appliances operation according to a time-varying price signal. The adopted strategy is based on an artificial intelligence control algorithm 'fuzzy logic'. The main objective is to determine the appropriate source (grid or battery) used for meeting the consumer. The decision solution shows the system reliability where the switches are synchronized. Switches draw electricity from the grid for both load and battery when price is low and in contrary when electricity price is high, we find a variation's price correspondance with the switch drawing electricity from the battery. The obtained results are verified carrying out Matlab simulation using real data such as the electricity price (Price (t)) and the battery state of charge (SOC (t)). © 2023 IEEE.

The dominant mechanism forming multiple stellar systems in the high-mass regime (M _* ≳ 8 M _⊙) remained unknown because direct imaging of multiple protostellar systems at early phases of high-mass star formation is very challenging. High-mass stars are expected to form in clustered environments containing binaries and higher-order multiplicity systems. So far only a few high-mass protobinary systems, and no definitive higher-order multiples, have been detected. Here we report the discovery of one quintuple, one quadruple, one triple and four binary protostellar systems simultaneously forming in a single high-mass protocluster, G333.23–0.06, using Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array high-resolution observations. We present a new example of a group of gravitationally bound binary and higher-order multiples during their early formation phases in a protocluster. This provides the clearest direct measurement of the initial configuration of primordial high-order multiple systems, with implications for the in situ multiplicity and its origin. We find that the binary and higher-order multiple systems, and their parent cores, show no obvious sign of disk-like kinematic structure. We conclude that the observed fragmentation into binary and higher-order multiple systems can be explained by core fragmentation, indicating its crucial role in establishing the multiplicity during high-mass star cluster formation. © 2024, The Author(s).

Energy-based learning algorithms are alternatives to backpropagation and are well-suited to distributed implementations in analog electronic devices. However, a rigorous theory of convergence is lacking. We make a first step in this direction by analysing a particular energy-based learning algorithm, Contrastive Learning, applied to a network of linear adjustable resistors. We have been developing a device to support finger rehabilitation of hemiplegic patients. The device instructs the patient to raise the finger. If the patient is not able to do so, the device assists the finger raise. The goal is to reacquire the finger separation movement. One of the issues with previous devices is how to inform the degree of involuntary movements to the patient. In this paper, we propose a new presentation method which will be easy to recognize for patients. We use lighting finger keys to indicate the degree of involuntary movements at the finger. It is expected that the direct finger lighting will easily be understood compared to the graph-showing interface. By the experiments of measuring response time of a given finger push tasks, it is confirmed that the direct lighting is expected to give better response than the graph interface. © 2022 IEEE.

Changes in coal seam hardness cause fluctuations in the feed resistance at the drill bit during the drilling process, leading to unstable feeding speed. This paper proposes a robust dynamic output feedback controller to suppress disturbances caused by the variations in coal seam hardness in the feed system. Firstly, an unknown parameter measuring coal seam hardness is introduced, and an uncertain model of the feeding system is established based on the finite element model of the drill string. By designing weighted functions based on industrial field requirements and constructing a generalized plant, the controller achieves loop shaping, reducing the low-frequency impact of coal seam hardness variations on the feed system and suppressing the systems resonance peak. Simulation results demonstrate that the controller effectively suppresses parameter variations and external disturbances caused by changes in coal seam hardness, achieving stable control of the drilling speed.

Traditional base station siting (BSS) methods rely heavily on drive testing and user feedback, which are laborious and require extensive expertise in communication, networking, and optimization. As large language models (LLMs) and their associated technologies advance, particularly in the realms of prompt engineering and agent engineering, network optimization will witness a revolutionary approach. This approach entails the strategic use of well-crafted prompts to infuse human experience and knowledge into these sophisticated LLMs, and the deployment of autonomous agents as a communication bridge to seamlessly connect the machine language based LLMs with human users using natural language. Furthermore, our proposed framework incorporates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to enhance the system’s ability to acquire domain-specific knowledge and generate solutions, thereby enabling the customization and optimization of the BSS process. This integration represents the future paradigm of artificial intelligence (AI) as a service and AI for more ease. This research first develops a novel LLM-empowered BSS optimization framework, and heuristically proposes three different potential implementations: the strategies based on Prompt-optimized LLM (PoL), LLM-empowered autonomous BSS agent (LaBa), and Cooperative multiple LLM-based autonomous BSS agents (CLaBa). Through evaluation on real-world data, the experiments demonstrate that prompt-assisted LLMs and LLM-based agents can generate more efficient and reliable network deployments, noticeably enhancing the efficiency of BSS optimization and reducing trivial manual participation. © 2024, CC BY.

Reliable operation of Cr2O3:Mg/β-Ga2O3 p-n heterojunction diodes at 600◦C

β-Ga2O3-based semiconductor heterojunctions have recently demonstrated improved performance at high voltages and elevated temperatures and are thus promising for applications in power electronic devices and harsh-environment sensors. However, the long-term reliability of these ultra-wide band gap (UWBG) semiconductor devices remains barely addressed and may be strongly influenced by chemical reactions at the p-n heterojunction interface. Here, we experimentally demonstrate operation and evaluate the reliability of Cr2O3:Mg/β-Ga2O3 p-n heterojunction diodes at during extended operation at 600◦C, as well as after 30 repeated cycles between 25-550◦C. The calculated pO3-temperature phase stability diagram of the Ga-Cr-O material system predicts that Ga2O3 and Cr2O3 should remain thermodynamically stable in contact with each other over a wide range of oxygen pressures and operating temperatures. The fabricated Cr2O3:Mg/β-Ga2O3 p-n heterojunction diodes show room-temperature on/off ratios >104 at ±5V and a breakdown voltage (VBr) of -390V. The leakage current increases with increasing temperature up to 600◦C, which is attributed to Poole-Frenkel emission with a trap barrier height of 0.19 eV. Over the course of a 140-hour thermal soak at 600◦C, both the device turn-on voltage and on-state resistance increase from 1.08V and 5.34 mΩ-cm2 to 1.59V and 7.1 mΩ-cm2 respectively. This increase is attributed to the accumulation of Mg and MgO at the Cr2O3/Ga2O3 interface as observed from TOF-SIMS analysis. These findings inform future design strategies of UWBG semiconductor devices for harsh environment operation and underscore the need for further reliability assessments for β-Ga2O3 based devices. © 2024, CC BY.

ASPR-based Output Feedback control with Virtual PFC for Output Tracking

Nowadays, the output feedback control method based on the Almost Strictly Positive Real (ASPR) property gets many attentions and has been researched widely. ASPR models can be stabilized by applying simple output feedback control; so the designed controllers have a simple structure. However, the systems have to satisfy quite strict conditions in order to obtain ASPR-ness, although almost all practical systems do not have the ASPR property. Therefore, for relaxing those conditions, the introduction of a Parallel Feedforward Compensator (PFC) has been proposed. This method can render the resulting augmented system ASPR. Up to now, several PFC design methods have been proposed, and one of them is an adaptive PFC design scheme. This technique has a feature that it can design a PFC automatically by utilizing online data. Furthermore, for the purpose of output regulation, the control design methods with an adaptive PFC have been proposed. Unfortunately, however, in almost all schemes, the discussion on the convergence of actual errors has not been conducted. Therefore, in this paper, introducing a virtual PFC model and an auxiliary input for ensuring ASPR-ness, a new ASPR-based output feedback control method is proposed, and the stability analysis and convergence of the actual error are discussed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed via numerical simulations.
