Power systems are moving toward a low-carbon or carbon-neutral future where high penetration of renewables is *** conventional fossil-fueled synchronous generators in the transmission network being replaced by renewable energy generation which is highly distributed across the entire grid,new challenges are emerging to the control and stability of large-scale power *** analysis and control methods are needed for power systems to cope with the ongoing *** the CSEE JPES forum,six leading experts were invited to deliver keynote speeches,and the participating researchers and professionals had extensive exchanges and discussions on the control and stability of power ***,potential changes and challenges of power systems with high penetration of renewable energy generation were introduced and explained,and advanced control methods were proposed and analyzed for the transient stability enhancement of power grids.

Output Tracking control of a Nonlinear System Based on Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Model: Generalized Partial Eigenstructure Assignment Approach

This paper introduces an innovative optimal control approach to achieve output tracking while incorporating H2-performance specifications in a specific class of nonlinear dynamics modeled by the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model (TSFM). The primary innovation lies in extending partial eigenstructure assignment to TSFM-based nonlinear systems within the framework of sliding mode control (SMC). We propose a two-step methodology for designing optimal sliding surface gains. Initially, optimal state feedback gains are computed for each rule consequence containing a linear subsystem, adhering to predetermined eigenvalues and satisfying H2-performance criteria. Subsequently, using a convex combination, the overall state feedback gain is calculated and utilized to design sliding matrix gains. The sliding matrix gains are then determined by strategically combining previously calculated state-feedback gains in a convex optimization problem. We reframe the output tracking strategy as a stabilization problem using a virtual control input and reformulate the optimization task concerning tracking state errors. This process yields state feedback gains, sliding gains, and the formulation of the virtual control input. The effectiveness of our approach is verified through comprehensive simulations, emphasizing its capability in addressing output tracking challenges within nonlinear systems. © 2013 IEEE.

Yeast has been an indispensable host for synthesizing complex plant-derived naturalcompounds, yet the yields remained largely constrained. This limitation mainly arises from overlookingthe importance of cell and pathway suitability during the optimization of enzymes and pathways. Herein,beyond conventional enzyme engineering, we dissected metabolic suitability with a framework forsimultaneously augmenting cofactors and carbon flux to enhance the biosynthesis of heterogenoustriterpenoids. We further developed phospholipid microenvironment engineering strategies, dramaticallyimproving yeast’s suitability for the high performance of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized, ratelimitingplant P450s. Combining metabolic and microenvironment suitability by manipulating only threegenes, NHMGR (NADH-dependent HMG-CoA reductase), SIP4 (a DNA-binding transcription factor)andGPP1 (Glycerol-1-phosphate phosphohydrolase 1), we enabled the high-level production of 4.92 g/L rarelicorice triterpenoids derived from consecutive oxidation of b-amyrin by two P450 enzymes afterfermentation optimization. This production holds substantial commercial value, highlighting the criticalrole of establishing cell suitability in enhancing triterpenoid biosynthesis and offering a versatileframework applicable to various plant natural product biosynthetic pathways.

1-Regularized ICA: A Novel Method for Analysis of Task-related fMRI Data

We propose a new method of independent component analysis (ICA) in order to extract appropriate features from high-dimensional data. In general, matrix factorization methods including ICA have a problem regarding the interpretability of extracted features. For the improvement of interpretability, it is considered that sparse constraint on a factorized matrix is helpful. With this background, we construct a new ICA method with sparsity. In our method, the 1-regularization term is added to the cost function of ICA, and minimization of the cost function is performed by difference of convex functions algorithm. For the validity of our proposed method, we apply it to synthetic data and real functional magnetic resonance imaging data. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The effect of crystallization of polymeric carbon nitride(PCN)on the photocatalytic CO_(2)reduction activity of a three-component hybrid comprising a Ru(II)binuclear complex(RuRu),Ag nanoparticles,and PCN,was *** carbon nitride(CCN)obtained by heat treatment of PCN in a eutectic LiCl-KCl mixture was a much better hybrid photocatalyst component than the poorly crystallized *** photocatalytic activity of CCN was dependent on the temperature of the LiCl-KCl treatment:Increasing the treatment temperature improved the photocatalytic activity as much as five-fold;however,treatment at elevated temperatures(>798 K)had a detrimental ***,a substantial PCN crystallization effect was promoted by the construction of another hybrid photocatalyst from a mononuclear Ru(II)complex ***-resolved microwave photoconductivity measurements revealed a good correlation between the photocatalytic activity and the photoconductivity-charge carrier lifetime product in the CCN samples heated at milder temperatures(≤798 K).For CCN specimens heated at higher temperatures,appreciable electron accumulation was observed during the photocatalytic reaction,indicating that the accumulated electrons could not participate in the CO_(2)reduction ***,the crystallization of PCN at milder temperatures improved the mobility and lifetime of photogenerated charge carriers,thereby contributing to enhanced photocatalytic activity toward CO_(2)reduction.

The authors have developed a five-finger robot hand with artificial fingers consisting of closed linkages and a Single Planetary Gear System. Recently, we developed a new finger mechanism equipping a hyperextension joint at the fingertip that acts passively by two torsion springs. This paper aims to investigate how the hyperextension joint allows to control the reaction force vector that the fingertip applies to an external object in kinematic & kinetic theoretical point of view. © 2025 IEEE.

The approximation of complex dynamical systems models by reduced order models has been considered an important research problem for over four decades, not only in the field of control, but also in economics, image processing, circuit analysis, statistical mechanics, aircraft structures, and more recently in hybrid energy systems, to name just a sampling of fields. This paper presents a look-ahead vehicle control scheme for efficient traffic management at signalized inter-sections. The proposed scheme predicts future driving states with a look-ahead approach as an extended adaptive cruise control (ACC) model. It maintains car-following behavior similar to human driving while predicting future states of traffic flow to minimize intersection clearing time and aggressive braking independently, similar to model predictive control (MPC) approaches. In contrast to MPC models that are computationally demanding and have limited practical applications due to real-time constraints, the proposed scheme uses a modified Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) with predictive adjustments. The efficiency of the control scheme is evaluated through simulations with multiple vehicles in intersection traffic scenarios, focusing on maintaining safe time headway within a traffic flow and ensuring efficient flows with higher intersection throughput. Comparative results indicate improvements in intersection clearance, human-like vehicle headway management, and enhanced traffic flow performance.

In recent years, the development of deep learning-based image super-resolution (SR) technology has made it easier to generate high-resolution, clear images. However, in practical scenarios where cameras cannot be placed close to objects, the captured image quality significantly degrades, leading to very low accuracy in automatic recognition of digits and text. Traditional SR methods still fail to achieve satisfactory results in such situations. Many supervised SR studies use synthetic low-resolution (LR) images created from high-resolution (HR) images for training. However, synthetic LR images do not correspond to real-world degradation. Therefore, to reconstruct degraded images captured in real-world scenarios for high-accuracy automatic character recognition, this study generates low-quality images that simulate real-world conditions to train SR models, thereby restoring and enhancing characters in degraded captured images. Our approach comprises two parts: domain correction and SR model training. First, we use CycleGAN to synthesize LR images that include real-world degradation features. Second, the generated LR images and HR images are paired to train the SR model. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed method, we used YOLOv5 for text recognition before and after SR processing. Experimental results show that our method effectively improves image quality and the accuracy of optical characteristic recognition. © 2024 IEEE.
