Traffic accidents often result in quick bottlenecks and increase injudicious lane changes near incidents (or lane blockage), worsening collision risks, congestion, and fuel consumption. As a practical solution, this paper proposes a novel cooperative look-ahead lane change (Co-LLC) system for automated vehicles (AVs) to mitigate sudden accident-induced traffic effects by improving driving intelligence and safety in critical scenarios. The proposed Co-LLC system comprises the state prediction model, safety and impact evaluation unit, and decision system. Firstly, we analyze the immediate impacts of traffic accidents and identify that a lack of anticipation causes a lane change hot spot near the incident. Consequently, most attempts to change lanes early are unsuccessful due to uncooperative behavior from vehicles in the destination lane. Secondly, we design anticipatory and cooperative lane change systems for AVs to decide the need and feasibility of a lane change in advance. Thus, the proposed system enables AVs to change lanes smoothly and cooperate with other vehicles during lane changes. Finally, we investigate the impact of different penetration rates of AVs using the proposed system on overall traffic performance. The performance of our proposed system is compared to the traditional driving system, and the results show that our proposed system improves the lane-changing behavior of AVs, assists traditional vehicles in changing their lanes smoothly, and mitigates sudden accident-induced traffic impacts. Moreover, the proposed system improves the overall traffic performance with increased penetration rates. There has been a growing interest in using natural alternatives to synthetic additives in animal feed. This study aimed to examine the physicochemical properties of signal grass (Brachiaria decumbens) and its cost-benefit application in broiler production. The characterization was performed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric/derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). A feeding trial involving 216 Sasso broiler chicks was conducted to assess the economic value of including B. decumbens grass meal in their diets. The chicks were divided into six groups, with Treatments 1 and 2 serving as controls (without antibiotics and with oxytetracycline, respectively). Treatments 3 to 6 received diets supplemented with 1.25, 2.50, 3.75, and 5.00 g/kg of B. decumbens grass meal without antibiotics. Body weight and feed intake were monitored over eight weeks to determine growth performance and feed conversion ratio. In realistic distributed optimization scenarios, individual nodes possess only partial information and communicate over bandwidth constrained channels. For this reason, the development of efficient distributed algorithms is essential. In our paper we addresses the challenge of unconstrained distributed optimization. In our scenario each node's local function exhibits strong convexity with Lipschitz continuous gradients. The exchange of information between nodes occurs through 3-bit bandwidth-limited channels (i.e., nodes exchange messages represented by a only 3 -bits). Our proposed algorithm respects the network's bandwidth constraints by leveraging zoom-in and zoom-out operations to adjust quantizer parameters dynamically. We show that during our algorithm's operation nodes are able to converge to the exact optimal solution. Furthermore, we show that our algorithm achieves a linear convergence rate to the optimal solution. We conclude the paper with simulations that highlight our algorithm's unique characteristics. © 2024 IEEE.

This study presents a practical algorithm for approximating the Robust Positively Invariant (RPI) set within the context of robust Tube Model Predictive control (MPC) for discrete-time, linear time-invariant systems. When the stable matrix exhibits a spectral radius close to the unit disk, computing the RPI set becomes challenging, potentially rendering it infeasible. We first analyze the impact of the spectral radius on RPI set convergence, providing an insight into the problem. Subsequently, we propose an approach to integrate approximation into the RPI set computation while preserving the robustness of the corresponding tightened sets. This is achieved by enforcing the upper and lower dimensional bounds of the RPI set during computation. Additionally, we incorporate disturbance estimation error bounding into the Tube MPC framework to address substantial additive disturbances. These disturbances, if directly treated by Tube MPC, otherwise lead to over-conservative or empty tightened state and control sets. Throughout the study, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm through numerical simulations of a car-following problem. © 2024 IEEE.

Prescribed-time stabilization for high-order nonlinear systems with a pre-specified asymmetric output constraint

This article considers the problem of prescribed-time stabilization for a class of uncertain high-order nonlinear systems (i.e., systems in the p-normal form) with a pre-specified asymmetric output constraint. A core ingredient, tangent-type barrier function, is proposed first by skillfully excavating and assimilating the inherent properties of system nonlinearities. Based on the barrier function, as well as a serial of nested signum functions, the celebrated technique of adding a power integrator is renovated finely to establish a new design approach by which a continuous state feedback prescribed-time stabilizer, along with a tangent-type asymmetric barrier Lyapunov function, can be constructed in a systematic fashion, thereby guaranteeing the performance of prescribed-time state convergence and ensuring the fulfillment of pre-specified output constraints surely. Benefiting from the composite characteristics of the presented tangent-type barrier Lyapunov function and the signum functions, the proposed approach further offers a unified nature in design enabling us to organize a prescribed-time stabilizer that is simultaneously valid and executable for the system undergone or free from output constraints, without the need of changing the controller structure. The effectiveness and superiority of the developed approach are illustrated by a numerical example. © 2022 The Franklin Institute

To improve the obstacle avoidance capability of agents and ensure reliable communication during the path following of heterogeneous marine unmanned systems, a dynamic safety area and communication distance constraint based path planning algorithm is proposed in this paper where the communication distance constraint is considered. Firstly, the dynamic safety area is constructed based on the relative velocity between agents and the dynamic obstacles to realize obstacle avoidance. Secondly, the reachable area of agents is determined according to the communication distance constraint such that the heterogeneous marine unmanned system maintains a high quality of communication during the path following. Finally, the communication constraint center switching algorithm is proposed to meet the communication distance constraint in different sea scenes. Numerical simulations are performed to show that the proposed path planning algorithm achieves strong communication connectivity during the path following of the agents in the heterogeneous marine unmanned system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Although the average life expectancy in Japan has been increasing in recent years, the problem of the large gap between healthy life expectancy and average life expectancy is still unresolved. Among the factors that lead to the need for nursing care, injuries due to falls account for a certain percentage of the total. In this paper, we developed boots that can provide external disturbance to the ankle with pneumatic gel muscles (PGM). We conducted an experiment using electromyographic potentials (EMG) and center of foot pressure (COP) as evaluation indices to evaluate the effectiveness of fall prevention training using this device, which is smaller and lighter than conventional devices. © 2023 IEEE.

During the outbreak of COVID-19, many enterprises massively created Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for companies to cooperate;however, these accounts lacked efficient management after the epidemic, leading to data leakage or the suffering of malicious attacks. Consequently, several firms have started to build private blockchains for data preservation and verification. Private blockchains are usually built internally in companies;once a firm's internal network opens for massive external logins, many servers and private blockchains cannot work properly to protect data. In general, private blockchains store critical personal information or relevant confidential data;once a private blockchain opens to external access, all the information in the network nodes will be exposed, making private them lose their protection functions. This paper proposes a security mechanism using a private blockchain system based on zero trust architecture. The zero trust architecture tracks every user's network conditions and analyses whether their behaviors are authorized. Additionally, the system utilizes micro-segmentation to divide the private blockchain, preventing the system from malicious attacks. The proposed system employs user multi-factor authentication to identify users, and the zero trust architecture tracks and analyzes if users' behaviors are reasonable. This method effectively ensures corporate networks' security and enables private blockchain to filter legal and authorized users to access and verify. © 2024 Global IT Research Institute - GIRI.

In this paper, we report a piezoelectric rotational motor that can perform precision angular motorization control. This rotational motor is a composite composed of a stainless-steel plate and four PZT actuators, and mathematical model and numeric analysis were employed to determine optimal parameters for clockwise and counterclockwise rotations. The driving method is based on activating opposing bending modes with identical driving frequency but different phase. Hall sensors and magnet ring are integrated to provide a PID control for precision control. An accuracy of 0.145 deg is realized. © 2024 SPIE.
