This paper proposes a framework for oversampling the minority mitotic patterns of the HEp-2 cell images. The classification of mitotic vs. non-mitotic (interphase) cell patterns is important for validating the Indirect Immunofluorescence on Human Epithelial Type-2 cell-substrate (IIF HEp-2) protocol, which is the "gold standard"test for diagnosing autoimmune diseases. Typically, the mitotic cells appear in the HEp-2 specimen image in a significantly less number than the interphases. This causes difficulty in adopting deep learning approaches to classify mitotic vs. interphase patterns with such high imbalanced data. This work suggests using One-Dimensional Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (1D-DCGAN) for oversampling the minority mitotic patterns in the feature space of the Deep Cross Residual Network (DCRNet) to cope with the data skewness problem. The results demonstrated that the proposed approach improves the classification performance over the UQ-SNP I3A Task-3 mitotic cell dataset with the advantage of using an end-to-end CNN classifier. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper proposes a secure offline electronic(e-)payment scheme by adopting Schnorr’s untraceable blind signature(BS).Thereby,to satisfy the essential security requirements of e-payment systems,it requires much more simple computations and becomes more practical than many existing *** considerations are:to prevent the forgery of e-coin,the Bank is only the lawful entity to produce the valid e-coin;and others can verify its *** confirm no swindling,the e-coin owner also sticks her private signing key with the e-coin before spending it as the ***,through the commitment with challenge-response of Schnorr’s BS,the merchant can verify the spent e-coin,and the trusted authority can identify the dishonest spender if multiple spending ***,it embeds three distinct information of date,namely expiration,deposit,and transaction dates with every ***,it minimizes the size of the Bank’s database,correctly calculates the interest of the e-coin,and helps in arbiter if multiple spending,***,it evaluates the performance and analyzes essential security requirements of the proposed scheme,plus studies a comparison with existing ones.

Onomatopoeia is a language that sensorially expresses the state of objects and human feelings. Recently, onomatopoeia has found several applications. For example, onomatopoeia is used in product packaging because it familiarizes the products to the customer and easily leaves an impression. Studies have thus analyzed the effect of onomatopoeias and their features. However, the difference between onomatopoeias with similar nuances has not been quantitatively clarified because there are numerous ways of expressing onomatopoeias. This study focusses on understanding the meaning of onomatopoeias. We extracted characteristic words in each part of speech, which influences onomatopoeias and proposed the use of semantic analysis with these characteristic words to understand the relationship between their onomatopoeias. The semantic analysis extracts the onomatopoeia that is obtained by adding affective elements to the existing onomatopoeias;this helps understand the relationship between onomatopoeias through these affective elements. We used global vectors for word representation (GloVe) to perform the semantic analyses. Thus, we can use the onomatopoeia when designing a new product package by understanding the consumer's perception of the onomatopoeia using the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

Smart grids, which integrate modern Internet of Things (IoT) technology and renewable energy sources to boost efficiency, sustainability, and dependability, are poised to bring about a dramatic shift in the future of energy distribution. Intelligent grids are expected to bring about this shift. Focusing on the role of the Internet of Things (IoT) in enabling real-time monitoring and control, as well as the incorporation of renewable energy to support a low-carbon future, this research investigates the potential for smart grids to change the energy sector. This study gives insights into how smart grids can be efficiently deployed to satisfy the growing energy needs of society by studying the technological breakthroughs, obstacles, and benefits of smart grids. Specifically, the study's focus is on smart grids. The research highlights the essential role that smart grids play in aiding the shift towards a more sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure by conducting an in-depth analysis of case studies, pilot projects, and industry trends all around the world. Providing recommendations for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and utilities to exploit the full potential of smart grids in determining the future of energy distribution, the findings contribute to the continuing discourse on the strategic development and implementation of smart grid technologies. Both of these topics are currently being discussed. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a novel control Barrier Function (CBF) based controller for nonlinear systems with complex, time-varying input constraints. To deal with these constraints, we introduce an auxiliary control input to transform the original system into an augmented one, thus reformulating the constrained-input problem into a constrained-output one. This transformation simplifies the Quadratic Programming (QP) formulation and enhances compatibility with the CBF framework. As a result, the proposed method can systematically address the complex, time-varying, and state-dependent input constraints. The efficacy of the proposed approach is validated using numerical examples. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

We developed an Authentic GeometryGo (AGG) app to help students application of geometry in authentic contexts through authentic measurements and peer assessments. The study included an experimental group (EG) using an AGG app and a control group (CG) using paper-based methods. The results showed that the EG outperformed the CG in terms of estimation. Measuring authentic geometry shapes using the app could foster students' estimation. Furthermore, meaningful peer assessments with visual representations in authentic contexts can facilitate the evaluation of peers' work and improve students' geometry understanding. Therefore, we encourage educators to use augmented reality with appropriate learning activities to sharpen students' measurement quality and visual representations by measuring real geometry shapes and applying mathematics knowledge in authentic contexts. © 2008-2011 IEEE.

This paper proposes a novel planar semicircular-footed X-shaped bipedal robot in which the center of mass of each leg link is at the same position as the hip joint, and discusses a method for generating a stable limit cycle gait on level ground. First, we outline the assumptions of the robot model with four degrees of freedom, and develop the mathematical equations of motion and collision. Second, we set the relative hip-joint angle as a control output and design a control system to follow it to the desired trajectory specified as a fifth-order function of time. Third, we mathematically show that there are special properties: the angular velocity of the swing leg does not change before and after the collision, and the time-integral of the control input becomes zero in a steady gait. We also mathematically show that the model has the feature that approximate linearization is effective and the antigravity effect of semicircular feet can be utilized. Through numerical simulations, we verify the validity of the theoretical results, and analyze some fundamental gait properties such as convergence speed and mechanical energy restoration. © 2023 IEEE.

The idea behind event-triggered control theory is to aperiodically schedule control data transmissions between an embedded processor and a physical system based on event rules. While this theory can effectively reduce control data transmissions, the resulting closed-loop system performance can significantly deviate from its ideal (i.e., non-event-triggered) closed-loop system performance. Furthermore, the selection of the parameters of the event rules can be a challenge in obtaining a satisfactory closed-loop system performance that stays close to its ideal one. Motivated by this standpoint, the contribution of this paper is to make the first attempt in rigorously addressing this problem, where we propose a corrective signal for recovering the ideal closed-loop system performance in event-triggered control. The key feature of the proposed corrective signal is that the closed-loop system performance approaches its ideal one in a quantifiable manner as the gain of this corrective signal is increased. System-theoretical analysis of the proposed method is presented and illustrative numerical examples are also given to demonstrate the efficacy of our contribution. © 2023 IEEE.

We performed machine learning using spectrum analysis and power spectra of electroencephalograms (EEGs) of patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Spectrum analysis was performed on the EEGs of MCI patients and healthy individuals, and the power spectrum values of the two groups were calculated and compared. Based on the power spectrum values of the theta and alpha bands, models for discriminating MCI patients were created using a support vector machine (SVM), and their accuracies were compared. In the spectrum analysis, the theta band showed significantly higher power spectrum values in the MCI group. In the comparison of the accuracies of SVM models, the model using the theta band showed higher values in parameters, such as accuracy rate. These results suggested that the power spectrum values of the theta band are useful for discriminating MCI patients. © 2024 IEEE.
