Passivity of nonlinear time-delay systems

This paper presents passivity-based control of nonlinear systems with retarded delays in the state. To this end, we first show that the standard passivity concept can naturally be generalized to time-delay systems, which readily implies that a feedback interconnection (with or without communication delays) of passive time-delay systems is also passive. Then, we propose a storage functional for passivity analysis and further use it for stability analysis of controlled-passive time-delay systems. In particular, invoking an invariance principle for retarded functional differential equations, we show that a passive time-delay system can always be stabilized by a static output feedback controller under a delayed version of the zero-state detectability assumption.

The steerable needle becomes appealing in the neurosurgery intervention procedure because of its flexibility to bypass critical regions inside the brain;with proper path planning,it can also minimize the potential damage by setting constraints and optimizing the insertion ***,reinforcement learning(RL)-based path planning algorithm has shown promising results in neurosurgery,but because of the trial and error mechanism,it can be computationally expensive and insecure with low training *** this paper,we propose a heuristically accelerated deep Q network(DQN)algorithm to safely preoperatively plan a needle insertion path in a neurosurgical ***,a fuzzy inference system is integrated into the framework as a balance of the heuristic policy and the RL *** are conducted to test the proposed method in comparison to the traditional greedy heuristic searching algorithm and DQN *** showed promising results of our algorithm in saving over 50 training episodes,calculating path lengths of 0.35 after normalization,which is 0.61 and 0.39 for DQN and traditional greedy heuristic searching algorithm,***,the maximum curvature during planning is reduced to 0.046 from 0.139 mm−1 using the proposed algorithm compared to DQN.

Runtime verification is crucial in quantum computation as quantum systems are susceptible to environmental perturbation. Automating the detection of runtime errors allows an early fallback or correction and can drastically improve the efficiency of quantum computation experiments. However, prior work is either limited to asserting specific quantum states or ad hoc assertion circuit construction. We overcome these limitations by exploiting vanishing states as a general framework, which is flexible in providing trade-offs between error-detection power and assertion circuit complexity. Experiments show the unique benefits of our method in generality and effectiveness, improving quantum circuit execution efficiency and success rates in various benchmarks. © 2023 IEEE.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease. Complex pathogenesis behind disease formation and progression necessitated the development of new approaches to identify disease related genes and affected gene ontology (GO) terms. In this study, via exploiting GeNetOntology method, we have reanalysed a gene expression data including Crohn’s Disease (CD) and Ulcerative colitis (UC) patients and controls. In order to identify IBD related genes and affected GO terms, GeNetOntology uses GO hierarchy as the biological domain knowledge while performing gene expression data analysis based on machine learning (ML). In the training part of GeNetOntology, genes annotated with selected ontology terms have been utilized to perform a two-class classification task which generates an important set of ontologies as an output. IBD data samples were obtained from peripheral blood and colon tissue. In order to investigate the effect of different collection sites, IBD data have been analysed under different scenarios;i.e., all samples, only tissue samples and only blood samples. Experimental findings indicate that GeNetOntology can successfully determine significant disease-related ontology terms. Performance of the model slightly differs according to the sample source. Via analysing the differences/commonalities between affected gene ontologies under different scenarios, we attempt to enlighten IBD development mechanisms. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS– science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Prescribed-time adaptive constraint control of an uncertain nonlinear 2-DOF helicopter

This paper addresses the problem of attitude tracking for a 2-Degree of Freedom (DOF) helicopter system with uncertainties. Euler-Lagrange equations are utilized to develop a nonlinear model for the helicopter, considering the control input constant coefficients and system parameters as unknown. The prescribed-time control approach is proposed using adaptive backstepping to track the desired pitch and yaw positions separately. In Addition, a constrained function is also used to avoid the risk of a larger signal when time gets closer to the appointed settling time. Through the application of the theory of Lyapunov stability, it is shown that the proposed strategy ensures that all closed-loop signals are bounded, and all the states converge within the prescribed time. A significant advantage of this approach is the ability to pre-specify the upper bound of the settling time. Finally, the efficacy and control capabilities of the proposed scheme are verified by obtaining the simulation results on the Quanser 2-DOF helicopter.

Coordination Resistance in Cross-Functional NPD Projects: The Moderating Role of Temporal Leadership

Coordination cost is a critical management issue in cross-functional automotive new product development (NPD) projects, especially in complex environments. However, the literature has neglected to analyze the specific mechanisms by which coordination costs due to complexity may be reduced. This article examines whether and how two dimensions of temporal leadership reduce the coordination cost caused by complexity. In particular, we argue that two dimensions of temporal leadership, namely relationship-oriented and task-oriented temporal leadership, mitigate the effects of complexity on NPD coordination cost through coordination resistance. Based on survey data from 196 automotive NPD project managers, results show that coordination resistance significantly mediates the relationship between complexity and coordination costs. Relationship- and task-oriented temporal leadership also moderate the relationship between different kinds of project complexity and coordination resistance. When the level of relationship-oriented temporal leadership is high, the effect of organizational complexity on coordination resistance weakens. Contrary to our hypotheses, the effect of technological complexity on coordination resistance is stronger when the level of task-oriented temporal leadership is high, suggesting that the project manager should consider different dimensions of temporal leadership when faced with different complexities. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

Metaverse, a virtual world, is developing rapidly and is widely used in multi-sector. The number of users is projected to increase year over year. Due to the development of the metaverse platform, digital asset creation is demanding. Creating high-quality and diverse 3D digital objects is challenging. This study proposes the frameworks for integrating generative AI to create diverse 3D assets into the metaverse. We study different approaches for asset creation, i.e., generative 3D model-based, generative image projection-based, and generative language script-based. Creators can use this workflow to optimize the creation of 3D assets. Moreover, this study compares the results of generative AI and procedural generation on generating diverse 3D objects. The result shows that generative AI can simplify 3D creation and generate more diverse objects.

(-)-Anisomelic acid, isolated from Anisomeles indica(L.) Kuntze(Labiatae) leaves, is a macrocyclic cembranolide with a trans-fused α-methylene-γ-lactone motif. Anisomelic acid effectively inhibits SARS-Co V-2 replication and viral-induced cytopathic effects with an EC50 of 1.1 and 4.3 μM, *** studies of SARS-CoV-2-infected K18-hACE2 mice showed that oral administration of anisomelic acid and subcutaneous dosing of remdesivir can both reduce the viral titers in the lung tissue at the same level. To facilitate drug discovery, we used a semisynthetic approach to shorten the project timelines. The enantioselective semisynthesis of anisomelic acid from the naturally enriched and commercially available starting material(+)-costunolide was achieved in five steps with a 27% overall *** developed chemistry provides opportunities for developing anisomelic-acid-based novel ligands for selectively targeting proteins involved in viral infections.

Catheter contact force is well known as one of the factors which has a strong positive correlation with lesion formation. We hypothesized that the catheter contact force substantially affects the ablation impedance variation during radiofrequency (RF) catheter cardiac ablation, due to its direct effect on the electrical current output from the RF generator. However, such a hypothesis needs to be validated through further investigation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to understand the effect of the catheter contact force related to the contact angle on the ablation impedance in the radiofrequency catheter cardiac ablation process. Thus, we developed a special in vitro experimental system that enables to precisely set the catheter contact angle to the heart tissue's surface. The catheter ablation test was held at five different contact angles to the heart tissue surface. A RF current was delivered at each angle at contact force values of 2, 4, 6, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 gf. RF catheter ablation examination was repeated six times each for the five levels of contact angles and eight levels of contact forces. Then, the maximum impedance and average impedance during the ablation process for each condition were recorded. The results revealed that the catheter contact force has a significant correlation with ablation impedance. When the contact force was increased, the different impedance between the maximum impedance and average impedance also increased. The percentage of contact area also has a significant correlation with the ablation impedance. When the percentage of contact area was increased, the different impedance between the maximum and the average impedance also increased. However, the ablation impedance did not have a significant difference with each catheter contact angle. The present study showed a significant impact of the catheter contact force on the ablation impedance in RF catheter ablation systems. © 2021 ECBIOS 2021. All rights reserved.

This note shows two design examples of PID con-trollers, whose state variables estimate the selected state vari-ables of the controlled plant systems, for LTI Parametrically Dependent (LTIPD) systems. The authors have already proposed observer-structured controllers, whose structure is not the same as but is very similar to the well-established Luenberger observer-based controllers, and have also proposed a conversion method from a priori designed unstructured LTI or Linear Parameter-Varying (LPV) controllers to observer-structured LTI/LPV con-trollers with the plant state estimation ability implemented. How-ever, the successful conversion has been reported only for full-order controllers. In this note, we show two examples, in which a priori designed LTI PID controllers are successfully converted to observer-structured PID controllers, and the designed observer-structured PID controllers well estimate the selected plant state variables in numerical simulations.
