In this paper, the single DNA molecules were linearized and stretched by using the nanochannel with a dimension of about 300 × 300 nm2 under applying electric fields. After that, the single DNA molecules methylation level was detected by estimating the contraction processes of both non-methylated and methylated single DNA molecules in nanochannel after switching off the electric fields. And furthermore, we also found that their translocation velocities were changed between non-methylated and methylated single DNA molecules in nanochannel. © 15CBMS-0001.

Background: Erroneous answers in multiple-answer problems not only make the correct answer harder to determine but also indicate why the correct choice is suitable and the erroneous one a mistake when compared to the correct answer. However, it is insufficient to simply create erroneous answers for this purpose: explanations of these answers are also required. Preexisting studies examining functions for generating erroneous answers and their explanations based on this approach are abundant. Nevertheless, a major bottleneck has formed in this research body concerning the related specialized knowledge descriptions that are required for the generation function. Methods: This paper focuses on the notion that it is easy for teachers skilled in problem solving to express specific problems in written form and amend incomplete knowledge. Furthermore, it examines a method of constructing knowledge while generating and updating knowledge from specific problems. Result and Conclusion: The suitability of the proposed method was verified by examining actual knowledge constructed by the research subjects. © 2015, The Author(s).

In this study, a microchamber array device was designed to capture a single cell, lyse a cell membrane, and isolate a single cell nucleus, and then mRNA in a single cell nucleus were directly quantitated by using highly sensitive In-Stem Molecular Beacons (ISMB). As a result, the expression of three frequently used house-keeping genes were successfully quantitated to an accuracy of 100 molecules within a single cell nucleus. © 15CBMS-0001.

Environment recognition is an effective way for a mobile robot to move across rough terrain. In particular, this makes it possible to prevent a tiny mobile robot from getting stuck or turning over. Several studies have been conducted on environment recognition using a laser range finder or camera. However, almost all of these studies focused on obstacle detection or shape recognition, which cannot be used to recognize the surface condition such as slipperiness. The purpose of this work is to design a model for estimating the surface condition using a tiny mobile robot. We set slipperiness as one of the parameters for recognizing the surface condition, which is already used by terramechanics, along with two additional parameters, the hardness and unevenness. We find that a robot can roughly estimate the ground hardness by measuring the current peak of a motor and the unevenness from measuring the robot posture. By recognizing the surface condition, the robot can change the parameters of the controlling motor based on the ground characteristics. This new method for recognizing the surface condition is significant, not only because it fills gaps in the previous research, but also because it does not require any special sensors such as a laser range finder and does not consume a large quantity of energy. Therefore, it achieves a core objective of our environmental monitoring system using multiple mobile robot.

In electric and hybrid-electric vehicles, the inverter output voltage is limited by available DC-link voltage, which restricts the vehicle speed and acceleration. Therefore the fundamental component of the motor voltage should be increased by operating inverter in the six-step mode at high speeds. Although hysteresis based direct torque control (DTC) is a straightforward approach and has several advantages, this method cannot work in the six-step mode. In this paper a new hysteresis based DTC with over modulation ability for interior permanent magnet synchronous machines (IPMSM) is suggested. In this method, unlike the previously proposed methods, the calculation of the voltage vector or flux reference in different phase angles is not necessary. In the proposed method, the flux trajectory is changed by adjusting the non-switching area and modifying switching table, and thus a seamless transformation between high-frequency switching and six-step square wave is possible. Also in this paper, the dynamic model for an electric vehicle is developed which its traction motor is controlled by proposed DTC. The simulation results prove that the proposed method modify the vehicle performances, notably. These results show that the vehicle with proposed method has a higher top speed and better acceleration. Also it is shown, that the proposed method can improve the vehicle efficiency for various driving cycles. In addition the results confirm the torque discontinuity does not appear in the whole range of vehicle speed.

In these decades organic functional materials have been utilized in daily electronic products like organic light emitting diodes or liquid crystals in cellar phones or televisions. At the present stage organic materials are used as mass materials and the most characteristic properties of them arise from cooperative effects of each molecule. However, if each single molecule has their own specific properties and cooperate in a rational way with each other, they should emerge more sophisticated properties. In this regard, we have been studying electronic or magnetic properties of single or small number of molecules, synthetic route for molecular integrated circuits by a successive coupling of the molecular parts, by self-assembling on surface, and combination with carbon nano-materials. In order to emerge new properties, each molecule units should show non-linear and non-symmetric responses. We have been studying design, synthesis, and measurements of organic molecules which can exhibit such responses in single molecules.

on defective and non-defective multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using the molecular dynamics method, and the effect of defects upon the buckling behavior is discussed. In our previous study, changes in atomic stresses in MWCNTs with three layers were evaluated until buckling occurred. That study suggested that the transition from homogeneous stress distributions to inhomogeneous ones plays an important role in the occurrence of buckling in MWCNTs, though the critical stresses or strains relating to buckling are dependent upon the structure and location of defects. In the present study, the atomic elastic stiffness of each atom, Bαij , is evaluated to discuss the onset of local buckling in MWCNTs with five layers. The det(Bαij ) of all atoms is found to change to a negative value long before buckling occurs, while the second smallest eigenvalues of Bαij for some atoms change to a negative value just prior to buckling. The existence of dense regions of atoms that have two negative eigenvalues of Bαij are found to vary as a function of the defect location, and to correspond with onset points of local buckling. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, a soft IP kernel of LVDS (low-voltage differential signaling) receivers is proposed for multichannel ultrasound imaging applications. By means of careful cell-based design, a high-speed de-serializer is developed with control-able bit-shift and delay-adjustment operations. Furthermore, using the proposed hybrid coarse-tune and two-level fine-tune schemes, a synchronization controller can perform efficient and robust multichannel LVDS signal synchronizing processes in cooperation with the de-serializer. The proposed LVDS IP kernel is synthesizable cell-based design, which is soft/portable to different circuit technology and system applications. Based on the proposed LVDS structure, four sets of 8-channel LVDS receivers were designed and implemented on a 32-channel FPGA-based ultrasound imaging platform. Integrated with the ultrasound AFE/HVFE (analog and high-voltage front-end) module, a throughput of 480 Mb/s per channel can be achieved for test patterns, 32-channel ultrasound image and color-Doppler display.

We study a decentralized energy network composed of PV units, wind power generator, rechargeable batteries,electrical appliances, and an electric power router. The router manages the power transfer over the network. The decentralized energy network is a new grid systems toward independence from existing power grid, and the renewable energy is main energy source for the decentralized energy network. To investigate the possibility of this network, we conducted a demonstration experiment using DC energy grid in an isolated island in Japan. "Nushima project" attempts to construct a prototype of a self-sustainable decentralized energy system based on DC power distribution of the renewable energy in Nushima island. Under the Nushima project, a mathematical programming model is formulated for optimizing the design and the utilization of this overall energy network in order to evaluate efficiency and stability of the whole energy *** this approach, we investigate an optimal power transfer for the most efficient power utilization based on a liner programing model. Through some numerical simulation results, the effectiveness and the potential, e.g. for clarifying the effect of the batteries, of the proposed model are investigated.
